  1. nah, they run good. plus if you get lucky you can unlock the other cores in bios on this cpu, giving you a quad core. Not that I think I'd need a quad core yet anyway, not for gaming anyway.. a good dual core is good enough. http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/535501-amd-phenom-ii-core-unlocking-guide.html http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-253156_11_0.html (don't think I'll be doing it straight away but it's hopefully there if I need it)
  2. no, I got this week off work and got another baby due in a couple of weeks http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=20684&page=1 good review on 2 x 5770 vs the rest, seem to hold their own against 5870 no problem + it works out cheaper ---------- Post added at 21:24 ---------- Previous post was at 20:04 ---------- changed spec slightly but ORDERED! :P
  3. not logged into here for a bit, how are the latest ATi cards handling Arma2 guys? I was going to go 5850 but the online retailers here are out of stock, spoke to Ebuyer and they reckon its gonna be 7 days. So I was thinking 2x5770? or is A2 still being fussy with 2 gfx cards? ---------- Post added at 19:23 ---------- Previous post was at 19:02 ---------- PowerColor HD 5770 1GB GDDR5, Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort Out PCI-E (2 of them) AMD Phenom X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P 790FX Socket AM3 DDR3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 DHX Memory NZXT ALPHA Mid Tower Case with Side Window - No PSU Coolermaster RealPower 700W Modular PSU - SLI Ready LG CH08LS10 Super Multi Blu-Ray Reader & DVD±RW with LightScribe SATA Black Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM 1 LG W2261V 22" TFT Monitor Full HD 1920x1080 300cd/m220000:1 (dynamic) 2ms 16:9 HDMI/DVI-D/VGA Logitech X-210 - 2.1 25W Speakers Microsoft SideWinder X6 Gamers Keyboard with Detatchable Keypad - USB Microsoft Black Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 USB/PS2 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional - Licence and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 64-bit - English is what I was thinking as the 58xx will be a wait, what you reckon?

    Patch 1.05 suggestions

stop enemy pilots being stuck in the sky when you shoot their chopper down, whether it be dead or alive loads get stuck in mid air. 2 dead ones above a town last night in broken parachutes at side of each other. looked really stupid. Another time I could hear groaning and it was an injured pilot stood up in mid air about 100ft up. !!

    Please don't use Securom copy-protection!

I will be, I am only expecting to play it in it's bug free full graphical glory by then :p

    Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

oh and btw the thread is pointless really because when you buy Win7 you will get both 64 and 32 bit anyway :p

    Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

I am on win7 64 bit, why did Arma2 install itself in program files and not x86 program files if it is indeed a 32 bit app'? lol Still works like so I don't mind!

NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!

yeah I had really crap response from Asus when my NB fan on the motherboard went tits up (early socket 939 board). Just kept getting patronising emails from someone in Taiwan, couldn't get hold of UK support at the time!
  9. try to avoid the upgrade voucher option guys. when I had the xp to vista upgrade option it was a royal pain in the arse trying to process it and in the end I just couldn't be bothered and left it. It's not like you just post it off and they post you your upgrade back no questions asked. It would be easier to just get by with an older OS until 7 is out, or just wait the month or so until it is out.

yeah, thanks I switched back to avast the other night when AVG trial was almost up. Seems as good as it was on XP now after I re-registered to get a new key. Seemed laggy/unresponsive when i first tried it after first installing win7

I usually use Avast and if I get paranoid I will use trend micro house call (free online scanner) but that has never found anything that Avast hasn't. I am on AVG atm on win7 64bit, not sure what Avast runs like on win 7 (anyone?) AVG is pretty poo
  13. I wouldn't say arma2 is that detailed, looks quite aged to me if you take away the anti-aliasing mask of high end cards, yeah it's a bigger envoironment though but nothing is that special, and the sound is terrible. FarCry 2 is quite big too, as is oblivion and they have great graphics, even for 'older' games. And they have better foliage/weather and run great! I have stopped playing Arma2 for the moment, I will return as I do like the game lots. It has just lost the excitement for me because I have spent too much time tweaking. I'd rather spend time at the PC playing, I'll wait until this is stable and we have an Arma3 forum with people crying about it not running as it should and I'll just stick to Arma2 until that release is sorted out. Once bitten twice shy.

Any progress at graphic artefacts with ATI cards?

sorry, just thought I would throw this in here as I have noticed my games a bit smoother now since I Increased my pagefile on my HDD's. Probably a minimal affect for most I know but it has helped me some with low RAM. I suffered alot before with popping/slow loading textures
  18. would a 550w powersupply suffice for those cards? (I have 600w with 8800GT!) Also I would get more ram (especially if on 64bit OS)

    How old are Arma2 Players?

the women would rather have us locked in a little room playing games and one-handed browsing than down the pub where they can't see what we are up to, or what we are browsing there :D

maybe its to do with the PSU or something, if you have a low profile card odds on you are going to be PSU limited too due to case size so they give an option for power from any old PSU with the basic connector lol. I thought low profile cards would have taken their power from the motherboard anyway, obviosly need a bit more now!
