  1. I'm not able to vote since the poll is closed, but I have this same error pop up and I don't have the Steam version (ordered DVD-box from http://gogamer.com, if that matters). I downloaded the mortar mission linked in the original post, and got the same error that I get when trying to do it myself in the editor. I'm not sure exactly what the error means, but it seems to cause some strange occurrences with player-operated artillery firing. For instance, I set up a bunch of civilian groups (20 in all) in Chernogorsk, and then shelled it 30 times with the M119 using High Explosive shells. After that was done, I got in an empty heli and flew to the city myself. When I got there (and I tested this a couple of times), I saw what appeared to be "minor" building damage, a few downed trees, no destroyed vehicles (Ambient Civilian Vehicles module running), no sign posts knocked over, and a fair number of dead people with a few wounded scattered around as well. To contrast that a little, placing a M119 inside the city and using direct fire on buildings there would blow up vehicles that were a moderate distance away, and only a couple direct hits would bring down many of the structures (the International Hotel only took 3 or 4 I believe). While I expect the long range shelling (and WOW is the minimum range not very minimal - especially for the MLRS) to be less precise than direct fire, and not necessarily get direct hits on buildings super often, I can't understand how it wouldn't have at least destroyed some vehicles - and after 30 rounds in roughly the same spot, probably knocked down a building or two as well. Also, from playing around with the editor myself, it also seems as though the SADARM rounds for the M119 don't function if fired manually at buildings or tanks (haven't tested them with a fire mission). Also, firing off White Phosphorous rounds seemed to kill individuals that were very near where the round landed, but not much else - firing into a group that I set up on a hillside didn't kill all of them, despite their close proximity to one another. I've also fired WP rounds into buildings near the gun position and ran through the cloud 5-10 seconds later without taking any damage - shouldn't it be dangerous for a while? So...what does the error mean exactly? Obviously the M119 shells do something when fired by a player through the artillery system, even though I suspect they aren't doing as much as they probably should.
  2. Thanks for the clarifications on mission types; I was having fun on a particular server when my game crashed, now I get instantly kicked from that server when trying to log back in :( Domination seems pretty decent so far, but I'd like to have some friendly AI available as well (if there does happen to be any, I haven't figured out how to use 'em yet). Haven't really had a chance to play Evolution or Berserk (what's the objective there?) yet. I know that you can play through campaign missions (and I assume player made missions that have set objectives as well), but I suppose that's something that doesn't lend itself to dedicated public servers, correct?
  3. I'll start off by saying that I've had the game for less than 2 weeks, though I played the demo quite a lot (old video card barely got me ~22 FPS on low/medium settings with some stuff turned off, so I waited for an upgrade to purchase the game). So far I've really enjoyed the single player portion of the game, but I'm finding the multiplayer a bit hard to get into. I played a little MP on the demo, but it was almost always the Warfare mode co-op with a friend (which I found quite entertaining). Currently though, I'm seeing a lot of "Evo" and "Domination" listed for server names and have no idea what they mean. I've seen mention of those terms on these forums as well, but I'm still not certain what the game mode actually entails (I think Domination has to do with capturing and holding certain locations, which is somewhat similar to Warfare I suppose?) Most of the time I just find myself plopped into the middle of a large base with vehicles scattered around, and no idea what I should be doing. I mean, I know I can look at the map and see what tasks are available, but with no AI or human teammates present, I don't feel that I'd have much luck Rambo-styling it. I've typed messages to my teammates before, but haven't really seen any responses. Without really knowing anyone else that plays, and without even understanding what some of the game modes mean, I'm feeling a bit lost...
  4. You'll be fine except for the video card. The 9500 GT (whether GDDR2 or GDDR3 version) can run the game at low settings and view distance, but you may still have some framerate problems. My previous card (Radeon HD 2600 XT) should be roughly comparable to yours, and in the demo I was getting something like 20 FPS with Shadows, AA, and Anisotropic Filtering turned off, and most settings on low/medium. 'Course, your CPU is superior to mine, so you might fare a little better. It'd be worth getting the demo and seeing if it performs acceptably to you. My current HD 4850 handles the game fairly well (CPU is the main limiting factor in my case), and they can be had for ~$100 USD now; if you'd prefer an nVIDIA card, something like the GTS 250 or 9800 GTX should be roughly comparable I think.
  5. I restarted the mission and did not freeze up at that location. However, due to a lot of farting around and not pausing at a few times that I should have, I ran out of time and the mission ended in failure. Is there any way to load one of the save games from there now that it moved on to the next mission? The only options I can see are to revert or replay, both of which seem to be aimed at starting the mission over from the beginning, which I'd rather not do.
  6. I never locked up at the beginning of the fight - it always happened to me near the end (and one time right after it was over, when I was talking to the local villager whom I had been sent to). It's also the third area for me. I doubt we took the same route, but...(slight spoilers ahead) After meeting with the intelligence officers, I drove east along the main road and scouted out the quarry, followed by the encampment in the forest to the north or north west of there - then on to the village where I'm locking up. As far as skipping missions - I'm not entirely sure. I'd really like to get this one completed and move on normally, but I haven't been able to find any sort of work around thus far. I may just try restarting the mission and see if that helps.
  7. Did you find any sort of work around? I reloaded a save that was a little farther back than the others I'd used, but still froze up while chasing the last insurgent through the woods. I should also note that our hardware is totally different, and I'm using an ATI card as well. The only thing I see that we have in common, computer-wise, is the OS. I'd actually quite liked the mission so far, and would like to be able to continue on. The only things I can think of would be either restarting the mission (not sure whether or not it'd help), or trying to skip that portion all together and see if I could still complete it.
  8. I opened the file in Notepad and didn't see anything like that at the end. I also word searched for; exception, file, fault, and registers without any of those being found. I did notice (spoiler warning on the town name), "String STR_rt_comes_to_staroye_F_3 not found" being listed several times, along with some "header cannot be loaded" errors. Edit: To be a little more specific on that error section: String STR_rt_comes_to_staroye_F_3 not found String STR_rt_comes_to_staroye_F_3 not found Error: cannot load sound 'ca\dubbing\global\radio\female01\cz\doprava.wss', header cannot be loaded. 9. Let me start by saying that I patched to 1.04 immediately after installing the game, before actually playing it. I've already played the demo a fair amount, but I did play through a bit of the fixed-wing aircraft training mission, went through a full Warfare scenario battle ("Welcome to War" was the name, I believe), as well as a little goofing around in the editor - all without issue. I also managed to play through the first several campaign missions without any problems, but now that I'm on a "free roaming" mission (which seems pretty awesome so far) I've run into a total of 6 lockups. The first two happened in the same spot, and appeared to be related to a particular auto-save; when I reloaded a slightly earlier save, I was able to continue on for a while without issue. Now, however, I appear to be stuck. Doing my best to describe the situation without spoilers... I talked to a certain person who wants me to help defend a certain location, which I was in the process of doing when the game froze on me. I reloaded the most recent save and tried again, with the same results. I've tried a total of two different saves (which are maybe ~5 minutes apart) and have frozen during the battle 3 times, and during the conversation after the battle once. Would going back to an even older save possibly work? Should I restart the mission? Or is there something tied to this particular event that I'm doing which may be causing the freezes? Edit: I should also add that I read "Game crashing to desktop or freezeing" sticky (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76670), which suggested that I pack and upload 3 certain files. However, when I check the listed directory, I only see arma2.RPT - not arma2.mdmp or arma2.bidmp
  10. I feel like an idiot, but I honestly cannot figure out how to switch to my hand grenades when playing the demo. I've rebound a number of the keys, but don't see anything mentioning hand grenades in the options. I've tried the "switch weapons" key, but it doesn't work when I'm not carrying a second firearm or AT/SAM launcher. I'm playing Death Valley and I can see 4 grenades in my inventory, I just can't figure out how to equip/throw them.
