  1. I've logged into a few servers the past week playing Insurgency (one of my favorite mods in Arma 2). One thing that really killed it for me was that the direct chat channel was disabled while side/ group/ vehicle were allowed. Is there a server side setting that many might not be aware about or built into the mod? What this seems to result in on public serves is that everyone spams the direct side chat channel when instead they should be using group/ vehicle/ or direct with their own squad mates. I found myself a lot of times needing to communicate with guys from other teams when I'm right next to them and the only way to do that is using the direct side side chat channel. this a server admin goof or built into the mod for some reason?
  2. I ran across this recent video (I swear this was a forum post, but can't find it now) on someone using Voice Activated Command program from http://www.dwvac.com/ with Arma 3 to control ingame computer AI via microphone which really changes the way the game works IMO... After more searching I found that JoJoTheSlayer on these forums created a great profile for Arma OA which can be downloaded at dwvac site for the VAC program. http://www.dwvac.com/profiles.html JoJoTheSlayer's main forum post was here (a bit old now and is for Arma2 OA, therefore I started a new post here) http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?98078-VACbuilder-Arma-2-profile&highlight=vac+builder last night I downloaded and installed his v305 profile with the Voice Activated Command Program above and it works, but I'm guessing it might need some modification or slight changes. Also, it looks like someone might have set a request for this to be a feature via the feedback tracker, but I can't access that site now. I was curious if anyone else is currently using this or any other Voice Activated Command Software with Arma 3 Alpha and has a profile set up and working? Any recent profiles setup or planned? Maybe whomever did the video might chime in if they are working on a new profile.
  3. I can't believe now looking at the videos of this game that it was way ahead of its time back then, but it was... I loved it for online play. some random gameplay.. At the time I was playing games like Ghost Recon (Island Thunder, Desert Siege), Rainbow Six Raven Shield, and before that ww2online. I had given OFP a chance, but I hated the fact they had 3rd person in the game (multiplayer) Joint Operations seemed like one of the first titles that I played that had like 60+ people on a server doing combined ops along with things like iron sites, lean, prone, boats, helicopters, armored vehicles ect. I don't remember a lot of games then that had this many players on at a time. Sure a bit arcadey, but it was fun and reminds me a lot of the Arma series now, but probably more similar to Battlefield.
  4. I'm still running the same rig that I put together for Arma 2 back in 2008 or 2009 but with a newer Video Card that I recently picked up (see below). I'm slightly overclocked to 3.6 ghz with stock fan running High Settings running 1920x1080 on the Arma 3 Alpha. check this out... http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2306247 I'm wondering if it is even worth jumping up to something like an AMD fx 8350 at 4.2ghz when my FPS might only increase 10fps (from around 30 to 40) on High or Even Ultra Settings...I'll wait and see what the summer brings chip wise from AMD (I'm an AMD guy for some reason). I'm sure things will be better when the game is optimized more though. 5. wonder if it would be possible to write a script to kick joining players if their version doesn't match the servers to keep this from happening?
  6. logged into my first sector hold PVP game today. Besides the current seagull bug there was a guy who was using hacks on other team. He would kill the whole team, cause explosions, pop up behind players, ect. I personally was just glad to get in a server that wasn't just wasteland, but it of course got way out of hand after awhile. I took a break from Arma 2 PVP and even DayZ when it started getting popular becaue of these same type of problems. This has really got to be fixed.
  7. anyone able to do this in Arma 2 with Trackir? I don't think I can do this ingame, but I'm not at home to test it right now. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDBqBwHw_qs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDBqBwHw_qs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  8. I remember seeing it on Joint Operations Black Hawk Down...multiplayer was actually pretty cool. If I remember correctly they had a sizable amount of players 50 and the netcode wasn't all that bad. It probably would look like crap If I saw it today, but the grass rendering solution they used was a first back then. I'm surprised it hasn't been duplicated in more games since. Man I'd love to see a modern warfare MMO game come alive. Maybe one day we'll see a more modern shooter with the scale and realism of ww2online, but with the graphics of Arma2. ---------- Post added at 06:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:22 PM ---------- was this how it was ingame? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzVZIKfPn_8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzVZIKfPn_8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  9. I keep accidentally pulling up some type of command prompt that appears in the upper right corner of my screen that I can't seem to get out of? If I type any key it will go into the prompt....looks like this in upper right corner if I were to type "this sucks wasd" >this sucks wasd I'm not sure what key combo I'm hitting, but I can't seem to get out of it unless I exit out of the game. Is this some type of console command prompt?

    3D surround sound

I had problems with my onboard realtek card and Arma2. The center channel was screwed up. After installing the drivers from realtek's site it helped...but it still wasn't perfect. I then got an Omega HT soundcard which now works much better. My setup is running digitial out into a Onkyo receiver which runs to a 7.1 setup (Arma2 is probably only 5.1).

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

follow up to the above... I got my trackir5 very quick. I was thinking it was going to be 2-3 weeks until they shipped it, but it went out immediately. I ordered the track clip pro as well. The only beef I have is that the clip pro seems cheaply made (very delicate) and I had to snap a few pieces of it together when it arrived, but it works perfectly. One thing that might make the clip pro better would be if you could somehow swivel the actual clip 90 degrees. This would allow you to clip it on to glasses. Anyway, I loaded up the trackir5 beta off Natural Points website, plugged in the Trackir5, put on my antlers, selected track clip pro, moved my head around, hit the center key, moved my head around some more... ..then I loaded up Arma2 and it was working perfectly. The incremental lean is really handy. Maybe one day Arma2 will have the full 6 degrees and you'll be able to peek up and over objects as well. I'm sitting about 5-6 ft away from an 46" Samsung and have it positioned below the LCD and it works perfectly (I'm sitting on the floor using my small coffee table). I'd recommend setting one of your extra mouse keys for trackir center key because you will use that a lot. The default is f12. I find the hat clip works just as well if not better than the track clip pro, but you have to put a cap on to use that. It might seem a bit pricey and your going to probably say WTF when you get the small box it comes in (I thought they forgot part of my order), but it is a really great product for gaming. too bad no one has picked this up yet for the console world.

Post you most annoying bug !

enemy AI that seemed to be locked in a small loop where the reel keeps restarting and looping over and over...so in other words the AI isn't moving anywhere except back and forth in the loop. I see this all the time on multiplayer. I'm not sure if its a netcode problem or some sort of problem if your viewing AI from a distance.
  13. I'm doing the same thing today. I've been window shopping the last few days... on my way later today to put this together. I'm still on the fence about what video card I should get though. I7-920 and Asus P6T MB 1 Caviar Black HD 1TB (giving up on Seagates Barracuda. too many problems with 7200.11 drives) I already own a BFGTECH 9800GT 512 (plan on getting something else, but can't decide. Maybe Radeon 4870. any recommendations on brand or better choice for video on I7-920 guys?) just got trackir5 last week and works great with the game. if anything I know I can SEMI play multiplayer on my crappy x2 4000+ machine now so with that CPU above I think I'll be ok.
  14. maybe I missed this in the manual or control screen, but is there a separate button to ONLY cycle through the different firing modes for infantry weapons? the current key that I know of cycles through all your weapons which gets a little annoying if your just wanting to go from burst to semi quickly. if your carring nades, smoke, 203 rounds, ect then you have to quickly tap through each of those to select the firing mode wanted. I'm not sure if this is mod related since I haven't tried the campaign yet.
