Hello, When I start the game, it goes through the logo splash screens and hits the main menu but the background (where I assume, like ArmA 1, is a game video) is just black. It then freezes and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del out to desktop. My system is: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2GB RAM ATI HD4850 Video drivers are up to date. Thanks.

Thanks. I tried disabling the service but no luck. I also tried updating to the 9.7 Catalyst beta drivers; didn't make a difference. If these goddamn checkerbacked Slovakis would stop slurping absinthe outta Skitterink's rotten cootch for one blessed minute, maybe they could assess the, you know, the issue at hand. Because when you get right down to it, I've got dollars that want desperately to become their dollars. Or goat nipples. I don't know. I don't know what they use for currency. But I digress. And thus some kind of evolving relationship wherein two parties participate in a game of technical truth or dare not only makes perfect sense, why it's almost downright necessary according to the demands of common human decency! Now I know that's of an uncouth opinion, scientifically unsound and unproven and unsomething or other -- the idea that Czechs are, in fact, part of the human race; well to hell with all naysayers, this fella believes they are. I may not be able to point their country out on a map, but that does not mean they are insignificant on an anthropological level. On the contrary, I'm sure they're fine bipeds, totally incapable of the cruel, diabolical barbarism one would be quick to associate with those who roam the wind-blanketed steppes of Eastern Europe.

I am beginning to have second thoughts regarding the quality of our relationship. It's not enough to simply hear what I say. You must take these words and process them through your ears, listening to their cadence, the magical flow of... of the what have you... through the ear drums... It's very important. Almost essential, really. Because I dare you to find, I dare you to find another relationship as defunct as ours where the two concerned parties are excellent listeners -- no! No, in almost every case there will be at least one party who lacks the wherewithal to process the verbal quartet of their lover. Such relationships inevitably crash and burn, or at least turn toward the sea to become a Flying Dutchman -- great hulking beasts lumbering through the mists... glimpses are caught, here and there, and makes one pause and wonder... why do they continue to sail when there is no more wind? So let us change the motion and put the wind at our backs once more. Let us remove ourselves from these craggy pits of despair and migrate to calmer environs. Let us be ourselves but never at the expense of the other! Because, as they say, relationships are full time jobs, and it takes two to tango, and the branches are many and twisted is the way to the, I don't know, the plum tree or garden or... The point is that, the point is that we shouldn't call it quits just on the basis of our own inadequacy as human beings. Indeed, we should be striving to help each other. To conquer our weaknesses -- together. Because that's what love is all about.

Running it in windowed mode doesn't do anything either. I've also tried rolling back to Cat 9.5 drivers. Doesn't help.

Tried updating my audio drivers to see if that might fix it but the problem still persists. Also tried starting it with -world=empty parameter -- still freezes.

Oops. Windows XP Media Center Edition. EDIT: I checked the Event Viewer. Every time there's an Application Hang entry for ArmA2, directly preceding it is an error for Media Center Extender Services ("ERROR: Device Service Listener - The listener loop unexpectedly ended."). I have no idea what that means. I think that service is for connecting my PC to my Xbox 360.
