    Where/how/when to buy ARMA2:OA?

Where on earth can I buy BAF? Sprocket seems to have a broken payment feature and is not accepting credit or debit cards, as soon as I click Pay Your Order I get "payment request rejected". I haven't even got to the part to enter my bank details yet. I don't have a paypal account and nor do I want one. I have retail version therefore the trusty Steam version is out. Any alternative sites to get it since Sprocket won't take cards?
  2. My dad is away working and I cannot get ACE updated, as he usually does it for both our computers. I am not tech savvy and am lost. The updater skips all the potential updates and it seems what was a simple process before, requires some tweaking now that is beyond me.

Unlimited Detail wants to KILL graphics cards

The video stated that it was a geometry demo and to imagine what a professional art team could come up with using this technology. This is going to be huge.
  4. Joint Ops had the ability for walking about inside of Helicopters while moving. It worked pretty well too.

    Should I buy this game?

Take your time and learn the game. You won't pick it up in a 5 min session. Yes it is an FPS but it is very slow and doesn't require the skill like pinpoint aiming, Strafe/Rocket Jumping, map domination for pick ups and fast reactions that you would need for Quake Live for example. Everyone always brings up CoD or BF2 when comparing Arma. I think Quake is a better one to compare its differences as it is (like unreal) very skill based and certainly not a mindless spam fest. I absolutely hate CoD and BF2 such watered down crap that has no learning curve or requires any skill to get kills, that's why they are so popular, not that Arma is all about kills, As you are sure to find out :) Arma 2 has its strength in mastering terrain and knowing when to get down. Picking the right equipment (like smoke grenades, very handy for the SAS marksmanship of the AI) and keeping with your squad. Patience pays off greatly. Most fire fights are at a distance so you will strain a little trying to spot targets, this can be fun in multi-player so uniform recognition is essential to prevent tking. You said you probably won't play multi-player but you would be missing one of the greatest online communities out there.

    Metal song, about war.

lower the kick to 100hz and up the snare to 200hz to get a clear sound (sounds awesome on huge system). I like metal but not really my style. Good song well played etc but very generic. On ya myspace page you mention brutal? Seriously? Brutal compared to Guns and Roses, yes but totally lame alongside Anaal Nathrakh.

    Changing environment due to pollution

Solar activity is the cause of climate change. As the sun goes through its magnetic cycles so do the rest of the planets in the solar system (which they are right now). The earth has been getting colder for the last decade, not warmer. So driving our cars has affected Venus, right? I recycle on a regular basis etc, but I don't buy this carbon bullcrap. If you read between the lines they are gonna tax the living daylights out of us.

    Bad things about Arma2

I am just amazed the op made a thread about certain games. Arma allows ALL game modes. DO YOU UNDERSTAND, any game mode you wish is possible. What other game provides that kind of flexibility? Find a frickin' mission that suits your play style and if you can't find one google Arma 2 mission editing. Learn to use the editor, it's quite simple to put scenarios together, may take a while to do the advanced scripting and stuff. Stick at it and come back to these forums and post the link to your mission in the appropriate section and I'm sure many people will play it. The community is very receptive like that. I honestly don't think you realise that most of the missions on the servers are in fact user missions.
  10. No idea mate, sorry

Specs to run Arma 2 falsely advertised?

The arma community has probably older people playing than other gaming communities and therefore have families and nagging wives, coupled with work, to contend with. Also the kick ass mission editor sort of takes players away from the online aspect of the game as people are tinkering and practicing their flying etc. Take these factors into account along with the biggest and brightest, friendliest modding community bar non. No mom jokes or "you teh suck n00b !" have I ever witnessed in any of the Arma servers. I'm sure there are people that do, but the average player is far more composed than your average CSS player. True maybe the majority of the Arma community fail at twitch shooters as its not their cuppa tea. Some of us can hold our own mind you, despite being older :) I admit the game runs like crap but I am positive BIS will sort these problems in no time. They really do look after their community and other devs should take their stance into account. Infinity Ward want to butcher dedicated and modded servers and use some kind of match making for the next CoD game. I like CoD, many people here do not but if IW path is the future of online gaming they ain't getting my money.
  12. hold shift and the minus key then type endmission, to skip that bugged mission :)
  13. ouch a CRT on 60hz, your eyes must have bled
  14. as soon as I engage the insurgents then the game freezes. On the third area that I scouted. Like a trigger is activated. really good campaign so far too. Does that old ofp trick of skipping missions work where you hold down shift and minus and type something?
  15. I have the exact same problem on that mission too. My specs: q6600 oced to 3.4 ghz, GTX 280, 4 gig ram Xp 32 - 3 gig showing, sound blaster xfi, mobo = abit ip35 pro. Graphics drivers are 191.07
  16. Ok I tried that, and didn't crash at all, managed to get 3 hours worth of multiplayer. Single player freezes on a certain mission which someone else has made a thread about. Anyway cheers for the advice I can now go online :)
  17. q6600 oced to 3.4 ghz, GTX 280, 4 gig ram Xp 32 - 3 gig showing, sound blaster xfi, mobo = abit ip35 pro. Graphics drivers are 191.07 I can play for 5 mins, if that on single player, and I get CTD. About 30 mins on multiplayer, then CTD. Real frustrating it doesn't matter what settings I have. I read through all the guides and troubleshooting sections and have tried it all. My system can do prime 95 torture test for 12 hours and no errors. Run all games flawlessly. I am at a loss.

Selling Mods and Scripts for Profit

I think the DLC junkies/console users have invaded this forum. PC modding has always been free and has served as stepping stones into the gaming industry, for some of the best. Tripwire the makers of Red Orchestra for example. Terrible idea, charging for user made content and is not in the spirit of the community BIS spawned.

    The best video games.

Operation Flashpoint, Nuff said Planetside, Twitch and tactical game play that caters for any playstyle and the biggest online battles ever, with 399 players on one map, buggy as hell though. Team Fortress 2, Twitch heaven Tribes 2, ctf has never been so frantic Red Orchestra, Condensed tactical gunfights, on par with ofp for infantry combat imo Galactic Conquest - Mod for BF1942, Amazing Star Wars mod that just focused on the grunts (no jedi) truly epic vehicular combat Gauntlet, the original coop game slaughtering monsters in a 2d top down view. You could last forever on one credit and have the machine switched off on you, come closing time in the arcade.
  20. I have q6600 @ 3.3Ghz, 4 gig ddr2 800mhz GTX280, Xfi Fatal1ty Abit IP35 Pro XP32 (ram registers 3 gig and is stable) I have 2 monitors; a 22 inch LCD HD 1920x1080 res and a 22 inch CRT capable of 2048 x 1536. If I run the game on the LCD HD, the refresh rate of 60hz generates a squiggle, very distracting and if I move fast on screen (especially mouse movements) my eyes feel sore. I buy Arma2 and I thought cool a slow game to use my HD monitor on. Bah, if I run it on HD with aspect ratio of16:9 it lags harder than granny pushing a shopping trolley. Enter the CRT at 1600x1200 @85hz and 4:3 ratio, all settings maxed out and wow. The game runs like butter and looks awesome (fill rate is 100 percent only) there is no mouse lag unless heavily populated areas and dense woodland with many players. Still the frames are very playable. Ok so I lose out on some screen area but it is certainly worth the sacrifice to play it maxed out. I can't tell you the fps as I have not measured them, yet; so all I can go on is the game play and it is fine. I did try using my LCD monitor on 1280x1024 @75hz but there was terrible blurring even when I turned off post processing, squiggles were gone though :)
  21. Ernesto hold down SHIFT and MINUS key then type FLUSH, see if that helps

    Radiosound + Mouse Lag Problem

Everybody I know that plays online games always disables mouse acceleration. Google accelfix, that completely disables mouse acceleration in windows. Seems Arma2 still has acceleration though, on my system at least. Very annoying, feels like my mouse is constantly drifting and whats worse the crosshair slows down when passing a tree or any object that isn't terrain. very off putting as a gamer
