What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Screenshots are screenshots. Post an actual gameplay video made on something that doesn't have "NASA" written on the side or just give up now. -
ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I really really hope for your sake that you've got either an E-SATA or USB 3 interface for your external drive otherwise it's going to be VERY slow. I'm not 100% sure on how steam works but simply moving the folder for something isn't the same as moving the install, you may find you'll need to edit the windows registry to alter the location of where it thinks arma 2 is. As I understand it Steam installs A2 and OA in seperate directories so telling steam to run OA in CO mode won't work as it no longer knows where arma 2 is. A workaround would be to copy the addons folder out of your arma 2 directory into your operation arrowhead directory. You'll need to re-do this every time steam updates your games though. If you do this then running OA will automatically load the a2 content as well. -
super computer required?
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to benjibb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You're not alone. Many people with I7s have problems, many people with them also have no issues. I know someone with an I7 machine who fixed his issues by limiting himself to 4gb ram, it certainly warrants further investigation. I have a q6600 @ 3.15ghz , 4gb ddr2 ram and a gtx470. No performance issues here on high settings. -
That's the "beauty" of the Sprocket installer. Some people have problems and some don't. I also agree that we should keep this topic name, boobs are awesome... Just ask the guy from Stardust Entertainment.

When our server is running with under 10 people there is 0 rubber banding/warping of AI. I accept that I probably need to configure the .cfg settings better to allow more users with the same experience. I accept the netcode could be better but really if you're getting problems all the time even on LAN then you're not trying hard enough.

I can confirm this guy is a complete fucktard and the IP is correct. It is most likely assigned through DHCP unfortunately but so is my IP and it's been the same for years. If enough people report the address for abuse then at the very least the person who pays the bill will get a nasty shock when the warning comes through. Oh, and he has an ID spoofer apparently using "clan" game IDs.

Would an SSD help improve performance for Arma
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to wingnut1186's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This is not actually true. Since Arma2 streams textures from the drive installing it on a SSD will lead to an increase in performance. CPU is the main factor though. -
Arma 2 1.08 patch
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to The Hebrew Hammer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I think the problem you have is related to registry issues. If I remember correctly there have been people complaining that the sprocket installer doesn't create the necessary registry values. If you search you will find. -

TechnoTerrorist303 replied to Ironman13's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
This is really the biggest fail comment I've ever seen. I wonder how you form this opinion? As far as I can work out the only way this could be an informed opinion is if: 1) You have a supernatural awareness of the capabilities, abilities and time constraints of the BIS development team 2) Your programming knowledge and experience in maintaining and fixing the engine is equal to that of the people who wrote it. If point 2 is true then why are you posting here and not working for them? -

Frequent crashes since combining A2 and OA
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to The Hebrew Hammer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
You have a very special installer/game as wolle has suggested. The installer shouldn't need to "recognize" content as OA is installed into a folder called "expansion" within the arma2 folder... That's if you follow all necessary prompts in the correct manner. If your us army troops are engaging usmc then you've done something VERY wrong. -
If you want to play warfare, play it online. Anything else is just rubbish imo. Anyway, you definately need more than one satchel for structures. Try 3 or 4.

CAWheeled2_BTR90 problem....
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to DireWolf15's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah we haven't gone down the reinstall route yet but I suspect that's the only way to fix this. I'm taking a couple of days off from my duties as clan tech support due to rl concerns so after that's over I'll let you know what happens :) -
"Cyclic redundancy check" = "Your hard drive or at the very least your installation is boned". Reinstall the game, use some kind of disk tool to check the device for physical errors first, you may need a new hdd. Also I suggest getting a better graphics card, 9400 is waaaay to low spec.

CAWheeled2_BTR90 problem....
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to DireWolf15's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
As Liquid says we've had a lot of people get kicked for this problem. It's not just the btr-90 etc stuff either. People can be playing on a Takistan map with CO content and then if we switch to chernarus they suddenly seem to not have the Arma2 content. It's all rather weird. I suspect something in the patch process is corrupting random parts of the .pbo files, one of our guys can't see Russian tanks any more either. -
If your son is at an age where you are concerned about sexual themes in a game then he shouldn't be anywhere near the language or violence that is definately present in CO. If he understands the language used by your character when he gets shot then the chances are he knows the true meaning of the word.

Can my Laptop run ARMA II fine?
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to WobbleSock's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
You missed the "can my pc run this" thread that is stickied in this forum. The answer to your first question is "probably not" since your cpu is very slow by arma 2 standards. The answer to your second question is "turn the view distance right down and you might get away with it". -
Editing, Expanding and Modifying Domination
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Dark, as far as I know (if I remember correctly) the markers are auto-attached to any vehicle that's defined with an xvec or CH number. If you define a helo within the part of the script that determines whether they are lift choppers etc then it will have a marker on it on the map... I think. It's been a while since I last edited a Domination map. Btw that script is either init.sqf or the i_server.sqf (or is it x_server.sqf i forget). -
Problem with saving a multiplayer game
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to Zalsak's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
afaik you can't save a game if it's hosted on a dedi server. Why would you want to? Just set the server to run as persistant and then you can just log in and out as required. -
People with Nvidia GPU's and lag look here!!!
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to ArmAriffic's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Just out of interest then, what is the make and model number of your laptop? -
Raymond, 1.57 is all you need. Did you buy the game on Steam or retail? Did you buy Combined Operations or just one of the standalone games? What exactly do you mean "can't play multiplayer"? What happens?

A request to all joining public servers
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to Hud Dorph's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Whilst it's true that 99% of players don't read the motd, in my experience as a server admin there are a large majority of people that will follow the rules on the second time of asking and I'd just like to say "Thanks" to them because without them I'd have considerably less hair. As for the "not doing what clanmembers tell them" issue, if one person's playing style is interfering with the way everyone else on the server wants to proceed then they should be booted immediately imo. -
Editing of OA Domination[2.22] vs A2 Domination [1.09]
TechnoTerrorist303 replied to Darkguerilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
And you could have asked in the specific "Editing and expanding Domination" thread instead of asking in the official missions thread about a popular but still unofficial user created mission that is not supported by BIS. Search function is your friend. -
