One of the big problems with thermal in Arma 2 is the lack of concealment, with the second being the apparent low-ambient temperature of takistan. Mixed together and thermal stands out at being extremely powerful, to the extent I rarely use it on infantry weapons as it feels like cheat vision. Aside from that, it's great on helicopters and tanks, making them even more useful on the battlefield.

I need your help proving OA is legit!!
Windexglow replied to RogueBlade's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
He's a troll, ignore him. He is trying to get a emotional response from you. Ignore him and he'll go away. -
I doubt they'd give arma up - they have the milsim niche covered pretty well. I can't think of any other game that is like arma in scale or realism.

IR strobe not visible in FLIR?
Windexglow replied to Buzz_Fledderjohn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well what about that thing they throw and can be seen in NVG as well? EDIT: Figured it out, it was fire. -
Left handed besides writing, I do most things with my right hand - even sports.

OA - Have a new support module (for CAS)
Windexglow replied to meade95's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I've done several google searches but didn't turn any good results. Any links on modifying the module? I mainly want to reduce the volume, and increase the range of it. -

Oh great, now the US forces will have to protect more than just civilians now. -
Did the US invade Iraq and Afghanistan in the Arma universe?

Experience Weight Based Ironsights/Weapons in ARMA2
Windexglow replied to nkenny's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I've always loved this effect, and when hunkering down to return fire I'll often turn freelook on just for this exact effect. -
I've seen someone go prone while flying a huey before, but only once online so I'm not sure if a mod bugged out or if the game did. No proof of it unfortunately.

Whats your opinion on arma 3? (if there is one)
Windexglow replied to jacobj9's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
But it's to a topic with opinions. -
I would love for arma 3 to take place in the 80s -- cold war going hot. As for going back in time, there aren't many super powers today. China has never really been a big aggressor, it could take place in korea as well. Storylines are a lot more immersive for me when both sides can lose. They aren't as fun when the super power has no chance to lose, their way of life won't change ectect.

Or you could use math/equations to move the dot, but I doubt modders have that much control over the engine. I don't think it would be costly time or performance wise to have it done.

Windexglow replied to jacobj9's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Eh, while arma3 was a new experience I think I'll go back to arma 2 OA for the time being. Now to not be a smartass, I'm hoping we'll start to go from the "holy shit insurgents holy shit holy shit oh god oh god -- oh wait, we were never in danger" back to super powers in a conflict that could escalate into a world war. A la ofp. I wouldn't mind if arma3 took place in the 80s to do it. -
Got a few pictures, let me upload them. Will edit with results. Still editing, will add some captions. Same rifle in default FOV, zoomed in (control +) on a few. http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3168/arma2oa2010071817351266.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/4457/arma2oa2010071817352183.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/7247/arma2oa2010071817352359.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7153/arma2oa2010071817354456.jpg Same rifle, however in free look. In the second picture you'll see the laser. http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/2079/arma2oa2010071817354772.jpg http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3618/arma2oa2010071817355164.jpg Different scope, but shows the painted laser effect again. http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/1435/arma2oa2010071817370558.jpg http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3134/arma2oa2010071817371008.jpg http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/121/arma2oa2010071817371231.jpg Don't expect a whole lot, the aimdot is pretty much iron sights - 95% of the iron sight. The dot will always be in the center of the screen regardless where the eyes are. There was a mod for arma that made aimdots correct, feel free to post video. EDIT3 : I am on a roll! 3 minute mark is where the fun is at. EDIT4 : One of the big problems with getting a real aimpoint working (realistically) ingame is the lack of a human like perspective. We have 2 eyes, while most games only render from 1 "eye". This causes a lot of things in games to be flatter than they could be.

Something that puzzles me. BI sounds and impacts
Windexglow replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I don't think I've ever liked any of the sounds from arma2 or OA - thank god there are sound mods = ) As for projectiles results, it is probably another engine limitation. But than again, most of the time when someone is hit they aren't going to recreate a los vegas fountain with their blood and limbs. -
Probably would help if the light wasn't "painted" on the glass.
-
Don't use them if they bother you -- I quit using them after the game became too easy with them.
-
BI are being really mean to their customers.
Windexglow replied to Akatora's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm sure he has proof BI hacked his email and deleted his emails, give it time. As for the rest, always read into where you buy your games from. I made the same mistake with EA downloader - - solution? Not buying from them again. -
Really long startup times? :p They do their job very well.
-
I'm not a modder, but I presume topspeed is what stops missiles from going faster, not getting them to there.
-
^Set 3dresolution to 133% or more. This actually works better than AA and stops soldiers at long range being easily see able. If I look hard enough I can see them, but they blend much better into the environment.

There was a really great topic on this a while back, I'll see if I can't find it. I'll edit with results. EDIT: That was easier than I thought. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=100235&highlight=fov
