  1. Are you using the 1.02 patch now and still getting these bugs? I'm playing it now. Just started Manhatten. To me, the open ended nature of the previous mission and this one are just brilliant. The ability to call in the chopper, set your own lz, sweep a town at your own pace...it's just so ridiculously immersive, and so far the dialogue and cutscenes have melded perfectly. Manhatten has a very "Vietnam" feel to me. Firebase on a hill. Investigating weapon caches. Helicopter insertions. Meeting local insurgent leaders. Questioning possible communist sympathizers. Working with the local resistance forces. All just very cool.

    Another Eastern European Setting?

All your posts seem to stem from your sympathetic nature toward communists and you not wanting to play as the USMC because you see the US as meddlers. Thats well and good, but it's just a game. Look at it from the standpoint of the developers and where they are located. They lived under communism. They seem to despise it. They enjoy making games about fighting it. So what? As for those complaining because of the Russians being involved, play the campaign or don't bother whining. You barely fight the Russians and they get involved because of a terrorist attack on them, not because they are evil commies bringing back the motherland. Once again, it's just a game. The setting itself is perfect for the gameplay. That is good enough for me. Don't try to connect real life politics with a game.

    Razor Two

    Where exactly is the quarry?
  4. Every 5 minutes or so the game totally freezes during gameplay, forcing me to end the process from the task manager to return to windows. This has only started happening since 1.02.
  5. Overall, the changes with 1.02 seem great. Just gotta get it running stable. I'm gonna update to Nvidia's latest drivers and see if that changes anything.
  6. Never been a problem before. Temperatures read normal. It's only started since the 1.02 patch. It's a GTX 260/core 216, which don't really have the overheating problems of the ATI cards. If it were the graphics card alone, I'd imagine you'd see some corruption when I ctrl, alt, del out to windows but everything works fine. Just the game itself freezes up.
  7. I'm getting freezes (which result in me having to force end from the task manager) playing the campaign. Happens about every 5 minutes. Not sure what 1.02 did to start this.
  8. I don't get the criticisms about the movement being jerky. To me this is the first OFP game that finally feels smooth all the way around. The headbob will definently make you sick, so I turn it down to just a slight movement, so it's there to add some atmosphere. The fact that it's fully customizable is fine by me. Same for the HDR and what not. You can turn it off if you don't like it.
  9. The entire point of beta testing is to find bugs and fix them. Testing starts long before the release date. I wouldn't believe that they just decided that making the campaign playable wasn't a priority, especially since it appears to just be some simple scripting errors. Perhaps it's a bug that wasn't there somehow during testing. I don't know.
  10. I agree, but I do sympathize with his comments on the bugs. It's one thing to have some aspects of the gameplay buggy. It's another to have the campaign, a major part of the game, be unplayable all together. I'm not sure how beta testers missed such things. As you said, the good news is it's BI, so we know it'll get fixed and fixed fast. As a paying customer though I think he has a legit right to voice displeasure in a civil way, which is what he seems to be doing.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

Get your eyes checked. I never did anything of the such. You must be confusing me with another poster in this thread.
  12. Just played Trial by Fire. Very very good. Great atmosphere flieing in (although the voice acting is terrible, but I don't mind it). The shaking and blur effects add so much to the feel. The aiming and movement just feels natural and right. Not too heavey, not too light. In the first town the AI were taking cover and leap frogging each other, calling cover and signaling others behind through. Very impressive. The enemy AI were ok. I'm playing on regular so I haven't fully seen what they can do. One of those OFP style moments was when we were near the top of the town and a BRDM approached. I gunned down the guys who jumped out and had no AT weapons. Then overhead a Cobra blows it up for me and clears out the 2 remaning infantry. Overall I'm enjoying it. I'm scared to start the campaign until 1.02 comes out tomorrow because of all the bugs I'm hearing about. Haven't tried MP yet.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

Just to be clear, I'm in noway bashing BIS. I just got ArmA2 and played through the first single player mission. It was one of the best gaming experiences, overall, that I've had. I'm really impressed by the friendly AI, in how they move and cover each other and the shooting and moving just feels right. Back on topic, I think it's easy to blame places the game falls short on lack of processing power, but I think in some cases that's just not true. So many of the complaints today are things that are just holdovers from OFP:CWC that haven't been changed. BIS are limited in what they can do because they aren't a huge developer, so I applaud them for the product they put out, but I certainly think it will be possible in the future to have all the good points in Arma2 + complete animations, physics, etc. What changes to the engine that takes will be up to the developers. Obviously ArmA3 will have to take big step foward when it comes out.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

I don't buy it. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it to? The processing power to show an entry animation is unlikely to be so massive that it pushes the game over the edge. We are also talking about years down the road in this thread, not now. The lack of such animations appears to be more of a holdover from the original engine rather than a lack of processing power in modern computers to make it happen.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

There's a total lack of many animations. Entering and exiting vehicles, buildings, external reloading, etc.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

I'd imagine you'd lose a ton of the sandbox/large scale warfare features with such an engine.

ArmA 2 505 version available for download

Very confusing. I went to the British site, being I'm in the US and need an English version. You click to buy and everything is there to proceed and download. Anyone have any previous experience? Or could some of the mods maybe have info on it?

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?

I'm no expert, but dealing with Microsoft flight Simulator, another game that has a long running engine that's been constantly refined, there seems to be a point where an engine is old enough that it isn't efficent anymore. With FSX for example, you can put the latest and greatest hardware on it, 3 years after it's release (and it's a 10 year old engine), and it still doesn't run well. Same for alot of the original limitations that are still present from FS2000 to FSX (such as problems with texture loading, ATC logic, etc.). I see alot of this in the OFP series. The Graphics are certainly better, but alot of the same limitations from OFP are still there, gameplay wise and graphics wise. I don't think it's "hating" on BIS to point out that the engine is great but is dated in other areas alot. I hope whatever their next project is, that they overhaul the engine enough to overcome alot of this and future proof it for another half decade or so, not just base graphics wise, but physics, animations, gameplay, etc.
  19. I wonder how such showstoppers missed beta testing. So has anyone completed it and can comment on how long it took? I saw one guy say about 30 hours, which is pretty long by today's standards, but then I saw a thread complaining it is too short. Anyone got more details?
