  1. Hello, I am trying to overwrite the default unit genetic names for west in a replacement. Could anyone please advise on what i need to look at changing. This is where i've got to so far. Thanks very much for your time.

    Arma 3 engine

    I was glad to hear that arma 3 is supporting underwater environments. One game, by a fellow Czech developer that i think bis could learn a lot from is hidden and dangerous 2. Even though it is about 8 years old it still leads the way in a lot of areas imo. I know that the biggest maps are only like 8km but it's still worth comparing. For a start the physics are really something which would work well in arma 3 i think. For instance you can shoot weapons out of peoples hands or shoot soldiers hats off. There are some really good examples of under water missions. On the topic of hats, the h&d2 gear selection really gives a lot of customization and arma 3 could learn a thing or two from it. Ragdolls, are done pretty well and work in multiplayer (co-op ai and pvp) by going "stiff" after about 5 seconds. Climbing and stamina systems are also areas that i think arma could do well to follow. The sounds and music (sp) were also very well done. Anyone else who's played h&d2 think that similar features that it had could go down really well in arma 3?
  4. Ok so i found i was missing a class, but i still can't get the names to work. Even if i use the identical names as in the default englishman with my replacements, they don't show up. Could anyone please offer any suggestions about where i'm going wrong? thanks.

Not sure where your hearing pentax k5 is that much better, but lenses imo mean a lot more than any body ever will, and in that department nikon and canon are unbeaten at dslr at the moment imo(sony has officially stopped producing a850). With the quality of noise reduction software these days (noise ninja, lightroom etc) 7d is usable at 6400 (though it's just 3200 pushed up in camera). It will get you decent a4 prints. For birds in shadows, get a flash extension like better beamer. It effects them as much as the sun catching the water. Yes, you can get more value for money out of the d7000 and maybe the k5 atm, but the 7d was a real breakthough when it came out and it's still so little difference it's not worth consider over the important factor>lenses. If you want better noise control still though, you will need to get a camera with a bigger sensor. Trust me though, your just as good sticking with the 7d because you loose most of the reach on your 100-400 (I shoot 400mm prime with 5d2 which gets me the same reach as shooting 250mm on crop sensors like the 7d). 7d is a great camera to do it all, if you have just one for telephoto and wide angle stuff. Be happy with your 7d, if you switch to pentax, you loose so many lens options as well as canons good prices. Lenses are upgraded every 10 years +, bodies are 12-24 months. P.s if you want godly high iso, get the D3S. :D

    Lol, np it happens to us all and i did screw up the formatting so i can understand :) Will try send him pm, I just listened to his interview that was on the pc gamer main podcast and it seems he was quite keen on the game... hopefully it's just temporary website downtime.

    Yeah sorry to of bumped it up when it was old but i would really like to listen to it on mp3 player. I tried a process of converting the file to mp3 through itunes but it never worked. And i can't get iTunes to agree well with this pc. Maybe i'm missing something but I've tried searching the internet for half an hour, could you please explain what you mean? Of course i read the first post, did you read mine? Edit: If it's allowed could someone please upload them for me, would really love to get a hold of these.

  12. Nope, camera.sqs cannot be executed for a trigger (as in, start at the location of the trigger where it has been named or through "this")... So i'm pretty certain that was the fault ..unless it has changed since ofp and arma.

  14. Hey, A friend of mine said that my CPU is bottlenecking my video card in arma 2 I'm no computer expert so anyone mind telling me if that is true? It seems to run it ok, so i was not planning on upgrading ... but if it is holding the rest of my pc back, i would consider it. AMD 4200+ dual core @ 2.2ghz 8800GT 512mb 2GB Win XP home Cheers

  16. If normal units work like you said, i would guess the model is missing the correct named selection which tells the game where the lips are. (an error in the unit model itself)
  17. Maybe an idea for a later project might be to go through and try to "fix up" the campaign. For example add a few more SF to your team in all the lone rambo missions and add some missions to the end so it actually makes sense. Might be fun to play for people who more care about the current mission than the overall story. The addons project sounds good though, hope it goes well and lots of people contribute.

    Co-op Warfare (a large capture the island type with RTS base building and resource buying) Team DM Hunter (one plays as an animal the other trys to hunt you) And the most important is the mission editor which enables you to create anything you want from large squad based operations to RPG's to death matches with jetpacks ... if that interests you. :)
  19. Thanks Dslyecxi, you sure are a great boast to the community! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of writing the guide as we do in imploying it. I think with the much better squad AI in arma2 the tactics in the guide will be much easier to peform in single player than they were in arma. Maybe i just didn't get enough time to improve but with arma i sometimes had trouble with getting some of the tactics to get me results (talking sp here even though we all know it was made for mp in mind), compared to say .. setting your team down and waiting for the enemy to come to you. However, following the advice from the guide did make the game more fun whether it helped me or not and for the same reason i look foward to studying the guide for arma 2! :)

  22. Darn, i would of thought they would of added the intro/outro bit into multiplayer for the co-op campaign? Is the official co-op campaign in one .pbo or can you choose to do them in any order from the start? I was avoiding them till more patches came out. If they are 1 campaign pbo maybe you could create the intro as the first mission and the mission itself as the second? Don't have access to the game right now so i can't check.

    If the ai shot you through an object, i would think it's not an error with the ai but more with the objects fire and view geometry. http://www.bistudio.com/developers-blog/arma2-vegetation-progress-2-9_en.html Read that if you have not already it explains abit how it works. Maybe you could list the objects which you were shot through so we could test them from all angles. About the accuracy, I think that overall, if you put 8 humans on one end of a paddock and 8 ai at the other you would find that the humans can much more consistently ak "snipe" the ai than vice versa. Atleast that is the result when our lan group gets into similar situations. I have not had a look at editing in arma2 but from how the ai worked in arma (getting a higher knowsabout value) i would say that the ai does not cheat beyond small things like a group sharing exact last known enemy locations but its not exactly beyond a player group to do the same.
