  1. Intsalled the game a few times, played it a few times, had a prob reinstall get this message: Could not write licence data! I got my copy from Game on pre-order........ ---------- Post added at 06:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:15 PM ---------- Solution to thsi problem is install SecuROM Remover, run it and reboot = fixed. Its something to do with installing the game 3 times or more. Uninstallation leaves some kinda registry information. System cleaners dont uninstall this data. Repatch, fingers crossed.
  2. I would like to see rivers and streams in arma and arma 2. It rains allot in game, and there are mountains and hills, all features that are shaped through erosion. Such landcapes should possess streams and rivers in the valleys, even waterfalls. It would add imensely to the realistic terrain, and would aid in navigation. Also missions could be planned that utilised the river to stealthily sneak into enemy bases. Furthur boats could be used to bring troops inland, and to pick them up again. Arma had bridges, and estuaries which come inland, resembling rivers a little, but not quite in the way i mean. Just imagine the sound of a steam ahead of you, while you move through woodland, or the way water can cover up the sound of your movement when moving stealthily. Bogs and marshes would also be a great adition, i would be fantastic to wade chest deep through a marsh. Subterranian features would also be fantastic. Bunkers and foxholes are just one form, but caves in limestone districts, and rock shelters. Something else, cliffs and beach terraces would add hugely to the realism of the coastal areas. Maybe one day a version with such features will emerge. And please dont tell me such things arn't possible, a few years ago Boilingpoint demonstrated how to bring rivers into games with large landscapes, and Farcry also gave a worthy example.
  3. Anyone interested in compiling a list of Addons that work in Arma II, without too much manual modification? Sofar I got FFS BF109 to work, which is great.   4. I only wish I new how to mod, too stupid probably.......... But is anyone planning to bring some winter maps into Arma 2? With the new engine, is it possible to create a blizzard effect? Add some crunchy underfoot snow sounds, and howling wind. It would be great to see a really good winter mod up and running, with full winter units and vehicals. Mod one of the chickens into a penguin (only kidding).
  5. Im getting this error all the time now, anyone got any ideas what it is? Arma crashes to desktop, and a box pops up with the heading: Arma II and- Error: Device Freed It says the same in my RPT file, but nothing else. It happens while using the editor, on a custom map ported over, could it just be a particular map or maps? Any ideas much welcome.
  6. I have been running Sahrani in arma 2 by porting over the files directly into a mod folder. Im still getting a few missing textures, minor ones like writing on one of the signs. Infact Sahrani works so well, it must have been tested with this new engine version. Now im sure someone will mod this to make it easier for noobs but this is what I did: Go to your arma 1 directory and extract : buildings.pbo/ plants.pbo/ roads.pbo/ rocks.pbo/ sara.pbo rename all but sara.pbo by putting CA infront, eg: CArocks.pbo (dont rename sara.pbo) Place the mod folder in your main Arma 2 directory. Create a shortcut from Arma 2, add the line -mod=@sahrani Then run the editor and select sahrani, works for me, and I can turn all the settings right up to full. So the question is, is there anything else I might have to port over that I havent? The few missing textures, are they something to do with the later arma patches, so thats why they are missing? I can see Evolution Blue running great like this, just with the new AI, would make for lots of fun on a server ;-)

  8. You dont need Bis to make a desert, many of the Arma 1 maps can be made to work just fine, if only someone could fix the roads, cos the new AI can't navigate the old roads for some reason? Couple of deserts for you.......

    Jungle trees do look great in Arma 2, this isnt an island, just tropical objects pbo from arma, works in arma 2.

  14. Ok i probably spelled syncing wrong, but hopefully someone will know what I mean. Is there any guide or readme that might explain how to make units move their lips to match audio? Is it a simple procedure? And does it have to be in a cutscene.

  21. Desert, and/or snow sound's good to me. While I do love a bit of the old grenery, its been the same since OFP. Would be very re-freshing to venture far and beyond. Getting desert and snow isnt the problem, its getting the maps, vehicals and units all into a popular multiplayer mod, or official addon. So many great mods were made for Arma, but so few servers running it all. Vanilla can get dull 3 years in. One of the best reasons for bringing in deserts or snow, is that it will make happy those people who brought the game and cant run Chernarus without low fps and stutter (i am one of em ;( ). Simpler terrain would suddenly make the game available to tens of thousands of lower spec machines=cash in the bag for BIS. Want a look at some desert combat? look at this : I think the AI likes the open.............
  22. Thats all fair enough, but I would like to mention that when you are new to modding, you know very little. Its the experimentation that can help one understand what has gine into making a mod. By un-packing and tinkering you are just learning from others. If you buy a motor, you will want to play with it right? Re-publishing something, with content nabbed from others is a nono, and altering something and making it available for others is again not on. Tinkering and keeping stuff for your own use surely shouldnt be discoraged, as there will always be people new to the fold. Many mods dont come with a readme saying that the content is strictly for arma 1 only, and none state that they are never to be ported into arma 2. If i made a mod, i would be glad that people were eager to port it into arma 2. In the case of the Vulcan, it was itself nabbed from another game, befor being ported into arma.
  23. Thanx for the info, I tried renaming the sound file in the config to something from arma 2, but i cant get it to work. Some of the jets seem to use a number of sounds, and the config files look different. I dont really know what i am doing, so i probly have done it wrong. Hopefully there will be a proper port over of this. Oh yes I got the Landrover to work in Caa1 with sound, it just started working? But all passengers are seted correctly, just the driver isnt, as he sits about 1.5 m in the air, above where he should be ! Something to fix. Shame about the vulcan, cos its a great model........ Any recomendations to where i might learn some of this stuff, cos its all trial and error for me. Im sure everyone is a noob at some point to modding, so where is the best place to start ? :j:

    What do you mean viewdistance aint good, check this, arma 2 in Sara, veiw distance is fantastic. Suspect though that your meaning the distance at which units pop into sight? That could do with sommin extra in the distance, as choppers popping out of the sky is kinda odd.
