  1. Check the last pages of the thread for latest updates! Hi guys, i finally found some time to post a thread about my new units series. I'm not going to revive my project thread, it was too messy, and turned kinda into my 'blog'. My newest addon is a pack consisting of SOF and CIA operators from different time periods, from 2001 to present day. I hope you guys look forward to seeing this in game and public. For now, there is a lot of work to be done, patience is essential to my sanity :o This has been a really fun, painful, boring, and long project, but to see it reach this point is very satisfying. I'd like to thank the community and these people who gave permission for models and textures for my use: Cameronmcdonald Dasquade Drmidnight Lennard JeffersPang Bobman Johannes For (almost) daily updates and more information, check out my blog below: http://fox09a2.blogspot.com/ (and sometimes beta releases..) cheers
  2. Hello BIS! over at armaholic, we found various ways to improve arma 2s performance greatly. original thread http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&p=54150#54150 (cleaner and more useful to some) This guide will show you how to improve performance in ArmA 2 using various tweaks. Use this ONLY if the recommended downloads below do not solve your FPS problems. Most of the guide isn't really needed anymore. Back when this thread was posted, the game ran awfully on most PCs. ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead optimization and tweaks can be found here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101124 Recommended Addons and other downloadables: VFFPSS Project http://dev-heaven.net/projects/vffpss/files Dynamically changes view distance and whatnot depending on your FPS Proper Projects http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=85739 Lots of tweaks to look into, especially the foliage section. ArmA 2 BETA patches http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php As of May 2010, the recent beta patches really improve preformance. Texture loading is done in the background.. extra threads.. and much more! Guide Dead3yez : Some of you may have realised that in ArmA 1 the optimisation of the graphics was a little weird, i.e some of the graphics settings on higher levels increased your FPS rather than decreased your FPS. I am just wondering on what you have found with ArmA II. Given that I am playing an early release I do also hope that the game will be optimised further in later versions. I'm currently running ArmA 2 on a duelcore AMD5200, 4GBram, xfi soundcard and an XFX 8800gs 680mhz, 384mb ram, and will be for the next month or so until my pockets get a little more bigger. I have a 24inch monitor 1980*1200, running the graphics of ArmAII at this resolution really puts strain on my card, so I have to run on 1680*1050 to get away with a decent FPS. Personally I call a good playable level >30FPS, with my current settings I can reach up to 50FPS in single player, leaving leeway for when playing multiplayer, or missions with high GPU and CPU usages. To give you an idea of my settings and what my game looks at the moment here are some images, the difference from ArmA-ArmA2 appears to be substantially different. Here is parts of the thread. ( I have permission to put it here) ArmA2 CFG Where to find the config: Your Config file is usually located in: XP: C:\documents and settings\user\<login account>\My documents\ArmA 2 Vista: C:\users\<login account>\documents\Arma 2 Windows 7: 1. C:\users\<login account>\my documents\Arma 2 Basically, it's in your documents folder under the name "ArmA2.cfg" Resolution Resolution_W=1600; -Screen resolution (Width) Resolution_H=900; -Screen resolution (height) Render_W=1600; -Render Resolution (Width) Render_H=900; -Render Resolution (Height) As far as i know, the render resolution is what is rendered, and then the screen resolution is what is outputted on the screen. So by changing the render resolution to match the screen resolution, it renders the screen size rather than 2560x1600 (or higher?) My whole config: (DISCLAIMER: Remember, this in no way, should be what your computer is if it is less than my computers specs. This is for showing what my config looks like, and nothing else.) language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=-180000; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1680; Resolution_H=1050; refresh=60; Render_W=1680; Render_H=1050; FSAA=0; postFX=2; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=924188672; nonlocalVRAM=1475895296; Same thing with the player profile, where you put "sceneComplexity" except its named "loginname.arma2profile" Go to the bottom, and if you don't see "sceneComplexity=" then add it. For instance, mine is sceneComplexity=160000; Sorry for the confusion about putting it in the arma2.cfg. REMEMBER TO SET THE FILE AS READ ONLY SO ARMA 2 DOES NOT CHANGE IT!!!! Scene Complexity Benchies Running at 1680x1050 here is a result of an earlier test, SceneComplexion 160k Frames: 4219 - Time: 101274ms - Avg: 41.659 - Min: 30 - Max: 60 And now a newer one using those render settings and higher complexion, SceneComplexion 180k. Frames: 4983 - Time: 115663ms - Avg: 43.082 - Min: 34 - Max: 66 That' gave me the opportunity to run it maxed out completely. Dead3yez : I did some playing with the Scene complexion as it seemed to be the best way of improving the quality without much drop in the framerate. I also decreased the shading detail a little more by two. After applying some values to the scene complextion I ran around the village taking the same route and recorded the frame rate. (SC = scenecomplexion) These are the results. SC@110k Frames: 4843 - Time: 101276ms - Avg: 47.820 - Min: 33 - Max: 68 SC@160k Frames: 4219 - Time: 101274ms - Avg: 41.659 - Min: 30 - Max: 60 SC@160k Battle 1 Frames: 3010 - Time: 90679ms - Avg: 33.194 - Min: 20 - Max: 48 SC@160k Battle 2 Frames: 3137 - Time: 126169ms - Avg: 24.863 - Min: 13 - Max: 44 [thumb=datas/thumbs/3321-bat2.jpg]3321-bat2.jpg[/thumb] SC@250k Frames: 3907 - Time: 100802ms - Avg: 38.759 - Min: 31 - Max: 55 SC@350k Frames: 3631 - Time: 93669ms - Avg: 38.764 - Min: 26 - Max: 53 All setting very high VD@1600 1920*1200 Frames: 2403 - Time: 127963ms - Avg: 18.779 - Min: 8 - Max: 47 Terrain/Foliage Check this image out, was posted by someone in this thread, compares differences between the settings. http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/2256/armavergleich.gif I hope this solves all problems for you guys. Some feedback would be nice and details on your experience with graphics performance / settings. NOTES + BRAND SPECIFIC ENHANCEMENTS the VRAM settings in my config "896 (MB)" is supposed to be in bytes. Sorry for not mentioning it. (corrected now, if you missed it) http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73947 SLI SUPPORT: Download Newest NVIDIA drivers. In earlier versions you had to use the -winxp parameter or change the name of the .exe, however, ArmA 2 now has its own SLI profile. NVIDIA OWNERS! Set Max pre rendered frames to 8 in the advanced 3d settings for global or ArmA 2. This improves performance vastly. Discovered by some guy in another thread.. thread is not organized well.. sorry. will fix soon Post in the thread if you have any questions
  3. As you all know, the community is lacking US buildings. No buildings.. no maps.. no fun :( it's about time war comes home. Time to leave Europe and the middle east.. This is a community project for Island creators so we can see more US based maps. We are taking examples from online MLS and other real estate databases for houses, we want this to feel and look like you're in the US. I've assembled a small team of modelers to provide me with models, but we could use some with A2 editing experience. Our team: "fox" (myself, textures, O2, possibly configs) "socram" (from another site, models, textures) "Prof. Farnsworth" (from another site, models, textures) "ezechiel" of BI forums (Models, logo) Our team is looking for: Modelers, Textures Config work Current Progress: Configs : 0 percent Models : 10 percent Textures : 10 percent Release: Expect sign objects by the end of this week, depending on if i can figure out configs etc cheers
  4. congrats on the release, thank you for the opportunity to test in the earlier versions. Incredible stuff, glad to see that it finally is here.
  5. I addressed that earlier; they don't exist. Don't worry about it for now.
  6. heh, yeah quite a few of them are really bugged unfortunately. When I said "as is" I meant it :) thanks for the screens though. I got OA set up finally, and tried RHS's units.. I'm inspired again, though it will be a while before I start working on my units in depth. I'll try repair the current units though. I have other ArmA obligations.

    Vietnam: The Experience

What features in particular would you like to be compatible? As far as I'm concerned ACE works fine, I'm not sure about ACRE though. If the only thing that isn't is the maps, maybe we could look into making the maps compatible. Otherwise we won't be making an ACE version.
  8. Thanks. I'll try to fix those problems ASAP. 1. The shadow errors are only visible on normal shadows, I can fix it however changing the shadows to high or very high "fixes" it. 2. Black triangle.. proxy problem, easy fix. 3. Missing textures. I thought that unit had textures working, easy fix as well. As for the 75th rangers, they are hiding somewhere, perhaps in the model.cfg.. no idea. They don't exist in this iteration, nor are they present in config.cpp. I'll try and work on that soon. Thanks for the feedback :)

    Vietnam: The Experience

It is not officially supported. You can try, but we can't guarantee that they will work together.
  10. Thanks. I have been unable to test them myself, If you can take photos please do so, I would be better equipped then to see what the problems are. There will not be a full release, they are intended for ArmA 3. They will be improved upon however they will not leave this primitive state as far as optimization goes. I cannot guarantee future updates, though I likely will be working on them.
  11. Thanks. I didn't lose anything too valuable, just time. Here are the files: SF 2005 http://www.mediafire.com/?axmi6qvjc2y7v6q CIA (Intended for Lingor) http://www.mediafire.com/?8h7rbdwmi888cyt Read the readme. Don't upload this to websites unless you have permission from me. Let me know what you guys think, and I'll address them once my system is in order. My i7 920 failed on me, the underside turned black. I had to buy a new motherboard, and consequently windows refused to accept it. No data was lost, so all is well.
  12. Well, I was going to upload them, however my computer broke not too long ago and so goes my p drive etc. I don't even have OA installed because of some annoyances, though I will have everything back soon. I'll upload them tonight, all if not most of it as it is. There may be some missing PBOs if you download them, so if there are significant errors report them and I will supply the missing files. They are not to be put on websites however, as they are very incomplete. The files in question: foxus_specialforces_2005 This one includes my most recent work, and contains 3-4 units I think.. a whopping 180 mb or something. Really, this is why I don't release my work until it is optimized. This isn't for playing online. foxus_cia This is a very recent WIP, and accordingly is not optimized. I think it only has one unit, yet is 67MB.

    Rhodesy's Projects

Nice work, can't wait to see where you take these. nice tower as well
  14. Those were custom made by lennard. It's a great pack, I'm just not sure if he wants to release it yet.
  15. Here is the paraclete pouch set. Included is two 2mag pouches, 1 3 mag pouch, 1 machinegun pouch, 2 grenade pouches, and 1 GP pouch. In the readme you will find full credits. I also included the PSD for convenience. http://www.mediafire.com/?ur1dsmz1grwkrdn They lack proper normals and AO maps at the moment. I do plan on baking some when things speed up with ArmA 3 however. The models are included in their "raw" form, meaning they may have extra edge loops.
  16. Hello, I'd like to make an announcement, more directed to addon makers. I am putting up my models for anybody to use. There are some that are generally finished (model,uv,textures, and sometimes normals) and others that are unfinished. I have at least 40 models that I made over the years, and even though I won't be making more addons for ArmA 2 I still would like to see them being used. I'll upload more photos of models this weekend, otherwise it is anything I have posted in the last 6 months. There are some models that are derivatives off of BI models, others that are made by me, and some that are made by others. I will list credits when I post a larger selection. I will only be uploading my models however, and those that were made with consent to distribute. Models made by bobman will also be shared. Protec (BIS-edited by me), Bolle T800 (model by bobman, finished by me) , SDU-5e is by Deltahawk, but that's not my domain, so don't ask me about that. Paraclete pouch set is by me, which is seen as a drop leg in this image. I have plenty of paraclete pouches, including the MG pouch, 2mag pouch, 3mag pouch, and grenade pouches, made by me. I will upload the gloves for use this weekend as well. They are my first attempt at making gloves, and they certainly aren't perfect, but they may suit your needs. PSDs are to be included with all of my models. The gloves are simply enlarged versions of the BI hands with some slight model modifications and uv edits. The models will be released under a WTFPL liscence unless they are deriviatives of BI models, in which case they fall under their liscencing I assume. As a side note, I am still working on projects such as PMC Somalia, where aspects of my units will be seen, like the protec or AWS vests.
  17. I have a feeling mediafire will be like those sites soon. The original units will not be updated until I finish the DOAV vest, which will take time. I will leave this here: made by Jeffers Pang. (not game mesh but will be baked from this)
  18. Looks awesome bobman, good to see you got around to posting it here.
  19. replace ArmA 2 with arma 3 and you would probably be equally unhappy. I am still working on an arma 2 project with another member.. I think you all will enjoy it. I just need to spend a bit of time working on them before he can present them.
  20. Hi folks, wanted to stop by and clear things up. I've decided what to do. It is not worth working on an ArmA 2 version when ArmA 3 is coming out soon. Jeffers Pang and other contributors have been quite busy, and I've got a lot of work to do. No photos until later next month, depending on what transpires. In the meantime, I will be working on some various obligations to other addon makers, including a FAST helmet for Binkowski.
  21. Here's the latest progress, this is the wonderful DOAV by JP. These buckles were fun to unwrap, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to lay them out. Anyone have a better way? I can upload a better version if anyone does.
  22. looks awesome! can't wait to see everything textured
  23. In light of the other camo thread I figured I'd post some of my resources. I know some of the character artists already have some of these but it may be useful to others. http://filesmelt.com/dl/ACU1.jpg - Source is US ARMY press website (now gone). I also have the 300 MB original file, if anyone needs it drop me a message. http://filesmelt.com/dl/Multicam.jpg -Source is me, took photo off of back of surplus coat I bought at a store. The tiling is awful but works in some areas. If you want the original drop me a message.
  24. looks great mcnools, I love the look of the town. Definitely going to follow this one :)
