Issue number key commands by script?
MrXToTheN replied to MrXToTheN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
oh, I apologize :) -
Hi, I know you can issue some commands by script using do<Command> and command<Command>. My question is: How can I issue (by script) the additional commands a player can access ingame by using the number keys? Thank you.

I know what it is about, but from a business perspective I still think it is counter productive for ToH to include it in ArmA III. I'd like it in ArmA III though.

So is Bohemia giving up on persistant sandbox COOP campaigns?
MrXToTheN replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The thing i really dislike about most ArmA campaign missions is the fact that you have to kill dozens of enemies with a single fireteam. Is that supposed to be realistic? At least it's not fun to me. Would be better to be part of a huge assault that is controlled by AI (some missions are like that). Or less enemies that you have to kill all by yourself and more recon. -
I was one of the people who thought they should create a new engine. I changed my mind after seeing what they did so far with ArmA III. They put everything that I wanted into their newest version of RV. I just hope AI will also be improved in CQB and AI warping in network games will be fixed.
-
It'd like to see this but wouldn't that be a reason not to buy Take On Helicopters? Not sure if BI likes that.
-
No, no, niet, nein, never! I don't like it in CoD, BF or any other game. ArmA doesn't need it especially!
-
I think ArmA III looks extremely great already. Thank you BI for adding practically everything I could have ever asked for. Especially the physics integration is amazing! I hope you have fixed the AI warping in large coop games too.

Addition of Python or Lua as a Scripting Language
MrXToTheN replied to Harrumph's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'd prefer LUA myself, but modders of ArmA are familiar with SQF by now. Only new people like me have trouble with SQF. Would be nice to add LUA as another alternative. They shouldn't replace SQF. -
I'm glad ArmA III will have vehicle PhysX. That'll be great.

FCC - Freelook Commanding Camera v2.0
MrXToTheN posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
UPDATE: A demonstration video of FCC2 will be published in a few hours, I need some sleep now :D Here's the one from FCC1.1 for people who didn't know of the last version: 0-iYzSF0iFc Freelook Commanding Camera v2.0 I'm proud to present to you my newest and improved version of FCC. It should now be working in single- and multiplayer (Warfare). In multiplayer I couldn't really test it though. Information: The freelook commanding camera is supposed to make it easier for you to command your AI units/groups. FCC2 can be used by high command leaders in single- and multiplayer as well as squad leaders in singleplayer. You can activate the mod by selecting "Activate FCC2" from the action menu in-game. It's ideal for Warfare missions as it let's you spectate what your groups are doing in the distance. Controls (after activation): From in-game: END: Enter camera From in-camera: HOME: Teleport camera back to player INSERT: Teleport camera to leader of first selected high command group (lowest group number) Right Mouse Click: Exit camera M: Map N: Night vision From both: DEL: Switch player to leader of first selected high command group (lowest group number) - only possible in singleplayer From map: ALT+Left Mouse Click: Teleport camera to mouse destination Navigational controls (translation & rotation) for the camera can be set in the game controls under Bulldozer. Known issues: - Since one of the more recent patches the target reticule you see inside FCC doesn't work anymore to select the destination for your troops. (Help please! FIX needed badly!) - Before switching your player to a different group (DEL-Key) make sure you are able to go back to your old group later. In some missions your high command leader might not be within a group and therefore you won't be able to switch back to him if you switch to a different group. - In Warfare mode you have to re-activate FCC2 after each visit to the construction menu. - If you lose commander status in Warfare mode while being inside freelook camera mode you will retain it until you exit it yourself. Actual high command control will not be retained though. Download: Rapidshare I hope you'll like it! Constructive criticism is welcome as well as any hints on how to solve the problems I've noted at the bottom. Greetings, MrX Old thread with v1.0. -
How do you get to know the warfare commander by script?
MrXToTheN posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi, I'd like to detect which player in a (multiplayer) warfare game is currently the commander. Any ways on how to do it? Couldn't find anything on the wiki. Thank you. -
How do you get to know the warfare commander by script?
MrXToTheN replied to MrXToTheN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi, that's true, but I needed to check it by SQF script. I found a way. The commander is also the high command leader (rather obvious if you think about it). Therefore I just used: _commander = hcLeader group player; Works without a problem. -
Awesome guide, thank you! I'm still struggeling with the AI after many hourse spent in ArmA1/2 and AddOns.

What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
MrXToTheN replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Do you really think they couldn't make it work? Crytek is one of the most advanced developers in regards to technology and honestly I don't think Bohemia is as good as them in that area (no dissing, I really like ArmA in most aspects). I have access to the educational license of CryEngine 3 and according to Crytek CE3 has "infinite worlds" streaming technology. It streams everything automatically and you don't have to set anything up manually. I don't know how well it actually works, but I will try that once I am back at university later in March (if I can manage to pass one very important exam that is). -
This is a most needed command, I totally agree. Can't count how often my whole squad died because they did exactly what you describe. It is improved I let them that, but I can't understand how they keep releasing game after game (addons) without majorly improving on one of the most severe problem areas. In companies the AI is usually done by one developer only. Therefore I don't know where he spends all his time since the AI never really seems to improve that much. They should redo most of the AI behavior system, keeping it basic at first (only doing close quarters combat) while refining it bit by bit (adding high level tactics) and release it as a beta updates. If they fixed their AI, the game would get muuuuch better.

They need to fix the freaking AI. AI is dumb as hell. I just played BAF's 2nd mission and it made me furious!!! The AI can't drive and get stuck every 30secs, they refuse to get in vehicles often, they disembark when i tell them to engage the enemy sometimes, and at last they didn't even follow me anymore. I'm fed up with this! So angry right now sry. I bought every single ArmA there is because I really like the game despite its flaws but the stupid AI makes me so god damn angry every time I try to play the campaign. I completed OA and PMC already, but most of the time the friendly AI was totally useless and just destoyed any tactic I was trying to use by f***king up big time. The enemy AI isn't any better, they don't even take cover most of the time. They'll just go prone, even if there is hard cover 1 meters next to them. I've no military experience or anything but common sense dictates to move to hard cover if near by in case of incoming fire. I like ArmA's high level tactics AI like them doing flanking and the likes though. Just the actual combat AI seems bad. And pls don't tell me the AI isn't scripted and therefore it's still great. Every AI is scripted to react on certain stimuli. There's no non-scripted AI in games. ArmA is no different. It just has a bigger pool of possible actions and incoming stimuli. The AI is really flawed as of now and it needs fixing to make the game as good as it can be. I mean I really got immersed at one point while the mission when we drove down the street in our armored vehicle and a nice music set in and I watched the mountain ranges and then the immersion got broken horribly because the AI driver decided to go off street and crash into a house 10m away from the street! Oh man...:butbut: When will Bohemia learn that they need to fix the AI before releasing any more Addon content:confused:

FCC - Freelook Commanding Camera v1.0
MrXToTheN posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
UPDATE 2: New version uploaded (now standalone). FCC is now a standalone addon. Work in Progress. Please report any bugs in this thread. Download: Download UPDATE: New version uploaded (including test mission on OA's Shapur). New features: - high command over in editor defined groups - map view - NVG view - camera teleport through map (ALT+LMB on map) - command over every unit in a high command group by selecting a group in high command and pressing "Home" in normal or FCC view 0-iYzSF0iFc Notes: Don't teamswitch by pressing T while using FCC. Download v1.1 (WIP: may contain bugs) Hi guys, I've implemented a freelook commanding camera into ArmA to make it easier to command your AI units. It allows you to command your fireteam (including your own character which is taken over by AI as long as you use the camera). uhOeJGoVV5g CUbMv3c_7es The camera is activated by pressing the END button on you keyboard and deactivated by clicking the right mouse button. Navigational controls for the camera can be set in the game controls under Bulldozer. To make it work in your mission you need to put the provided script files ("init.sqf" and "commandInterface.sqf") into your mission folder. Have fun! Download Things to note: 1. High command is not available in the freelook commanding camera 2. If you play as the fireteam leader and issue a move command to all units (including yourself) in the FCC and you exit the camera before the order was executed, it will be stalled until you re-enter the FCC or you issue a new command. This has to do with how ArmA handles move orders. It seems ArmA only orders one unit in a selection of some units to move to a location, all other connected units will just follow along. In the situation described the team leader gets the move order and the rest of the team follows him. Upon exiting the FCC you retake control of the leader and the rest of the team now follows you instead of moving to the desired location. If you want the move order to be executed after exiting the FCC you will have to issue seperate orders to the leader and the rest of the team. PS: I'm new to modding ArmA and this was the first time I've used its scripting language (I'm not new to coding though). Took me over 10hrs to make these scripts because I had to research everything in the wiki and these forums. I hope you like this mod and that I didn't miss any bugs. -
FCC - Freelook Commanding Camera v1.0
MrXToTheN replied to MrXToTheN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Your idea sounds good. The last weeks the project was inactive, sorry for the late reply. I was busy studying for university and am now in the middle of semester exams. After I'm finished with that (end of february) I'd be interested to continue working on the mod. Any help is very welcome ;) -

the stutter makes cutscene in PMC hard to watch
MrXToTheN replied to msy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Some cutscene videos stutter very heavily on my machine too. I got the following components: C2D 2.66Ghz, 2GB Ram and a Geforce 9800GTX+ 512MB. I use Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit. My computer shouldn't be the problem. I can watch 1080p60 videos easily. -
While the newer campaigns are less realistic or likely they sure are more fun IMO. For me the fun factor seems to get bigger with every DLC. ArmA II's campaign was kinda meh. I really liked OA's. BAF's I haven't played much yet and PMC's is great so far (I'm at mission 7) except for some annoyances. The missions "Confirmation" and "Elimination" are my favorites so far. I understand that some(most?) people here would like to have more realistic missions, but I appreciate that Bohemia tries to make the missions more fun (while still retaining there own style).

I threw smoke grenades at all 4 groups and the missions didn't continue. I suppose it is a bug. Will try again later.

ARMA 2: Private Military Company (ARMA 2: PMC) DLC

I can't even download it from Sprocket. I still have to work but it'd be nice to have it available when I'm done with that. -
FCC - Freelook Commanding Camera v1.0
MrXToTheN replied to MrXToTheN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'm pretty sure I could modify it to only allow the teamleader to do it. I will put that on to my todo list. Thank you for your suggestion.
