Steinfisch replied to Steinfisch's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Direct X has the same files under Windows 7 64 as under Windows Vista 64 and the memory management is the same. As u see I'm not the only with the problem: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73895 -
Patch not solving campaign problems...

The copy is as legitimate as legitimate a software bought by german "Media Markt" can be. Core 2 Quad Q9300, Gtx 280, 4GB, Windows 7 -

Have the same problem as Dimmis80. If I play singleplayer or host a multiplayer coop game for 2 players, the game crashes very often. Somtimes without error messages, sometimes there is not enough mem, sometimes "cannot commit" if it trys to make a savegame. The most crashes are in the singleplayer campaign. Less in multiplayer maps like "Supermächte". Sometime it chashes even if the pc is idle (me => wc). My system: Core 2 Quad Q9300, GTX 280, Asus Rampage Extreme (not overclocked), 4GB Ram, Windows Vista 64 Bit Ultim. -
Which fix ???

Similar experience: (Windows 7, Core 2 Quad, 4GB, GTX280). The graphics system failed sometimes to produce this overstrain effect. The screen remained gray while running and recovered after stopping. I had to restart to avoid this. -
The CPU is the real bottleneck: Create a new map with the editor with only one player and no scripts. For me, the frame rate increased from 20 to 60 with the same graphic settings. I suspect the scripts. Some scripts are called cyclic.

Single Player Performance Issues.

Fraps is not an accurate method of measuring the FPS. It hooks into IDirect3DDevice9::Present and adds some extra code, even if no recording is done. I'm generally wondering how they draw hundred of objects, calculate the culling, the current positions and states, the KI.. and get 35 frames. The game is worth its money - despite the annoying errors. -
Arma 2 & Vista, not working for me at all
Steinfisch replied to Dancer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Generally it works even under Windows 7 Beta x64. But the problems are the same here. The CTD's are real bugs and can never be a result of wrong settings. Nevertheless I'm hopeful :). -
All are suffering from the crashes - me too. I tried Windows Vista, Windows 7, XP comatibility mode, several graphic settings, different Nvidia drivers (Asus Rampage Extreme, Quad Core, 4GB mem, 280 GTX). I figured out, that the crashes doesn't depend on the graphic settings. The main factor seems to be the mission (Manhattan!), and the generation of reloaded savegame. It starts with a consumtion of 600 MB and short before the crash the taskmanager reveals >1500 MB. A logfile would be great. The longer I played, the greater the chance of a crash, even if no mouse has been moved. Later the saving in singleplayer was impossible because of a crash with the message "cannot commit" or so. very often I got a message like "out of memory, unable to allocate blocks". You cannot give the advise to limit memory usage. This is not the job of the user. The program has the chance to check all types of available memory at starting and to exit in a normal way if the conditions are not met:butbut:. Regardless of this the game has enormous potential. The graphics are first class!
