not sure if i am in the correct forum here.. if not please move :) i have been seeing some vids where the chat entry box in ARMA2 is in the center of the screen... it is very bothering to have it being overlayed by the other text on the screen. is this from an older patch or am i just too dumb to figure out how to move it?

i noticed the same thing and my system is half as beefy as yours with equal performance...). also i noticed that whatever changes i made had no major influence on performance in the game... the FPS in the menue screen however seem to be varying... i wonder if there is some engine that doesnt initialise for the actual game itself.... -
How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
Mc Speedfreak replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
never had a CTD , a freeze or a crash... but from my arma days i remember how frustrating that is. the one thing that irritates me a little is the fact that i can do what i want with the game settings or the display settings in my control panel, i ALWAYS have between 19 and 36 frames... averaging 23ish... no matter if i set all on max, except terrain detail and view distance of course, (and that looks absolutely stunning) or on minimum (in which case it looks like ARMA) it is still playable without any problems, mind... i just would like to be able to get some improvement in performance... somehow :) one definate improvement i noticed is gpu load... we had a ARMA session yesterday and after 30 mins my gpu was @ 86degrees... 7 hrs of ARMA2 and its still @65-70 :) -

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Mc Speedfreak replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
your graphic card is a wee bit on the low side there... if you turn everything down to its lowest and switch v-synch off in the nvidea control panel it should be playable... albeit itll look very much like arma.. -

and, just to put things into perspective, when windows 7 is public - guess what- itll be buggy and some things will not work.... and that has been in the making for longer and has a slightly larger company working on it... it all comes down to testing before releasing... and i am certain BIS have a QA department... but nowadays there are quite a lot of different OS's out there and a literally infinite number of system combinations ... so if even a huge company cannot get it 100% right think of a company a fraction of mr. Gates's followers..... -
Arma 2 from a new person's perspective.

as arma2 has just been released there a a tonne of new servers up atm which are loosely run as public servers. there you find an insane ammount of people "shooting the shit" or trying to figure the game out. in time more and more serious servers will appear. -

and thus the boys are separated from the men... .. seriously though... most problems can and will be fixed in time. most people with no OFP / ArmA history don not realise that the main point about this game is Player created Missions and Content... once the modding community starts rolling the game will be unstoppable! -
Thank you and congratulations Bohemia Interactive.

while in no way disputing that this game has issues ( havent found the piece of software that doesnt) i want to make you aware of the majority of players that dont have problems with the game. most of them you will rarely hear from as they have no reason to ask questions or complain. i am running arma2 on a low- mid level system without any issues whatsoever... which, i have to be honest, seriously surprised me. i dont want to sound patronising , so please take this in the spirit it is said: 1. make sure your software environment is up to the task. - clean out all unnecessary programs, use a utility to clean and defrag your registry. - use utilities like Game Booster to deactivate all unnecessary background tasks before starting the game. - read technical forums and tune your hardware. NO- i dont mean overclock (that tends to add instability) but rather set your graphic settings in the utility that comes with your card. (for example deactivate V-synch. arma runs and looks fine without it.) 2. Make sure your Hardware is up to the task: - dont simply rely on big numbers. a big CPU and a big Graphic board need loads of power. that is something that is often overlooked. - open your PC and get rid of dust - the ammount of PCs i have serviced and had to clean out first is unreal. DUST creates HEAT - Heat creates problems. - defrag your hard drive. nothing is a bigger dampener on Arma than a heavily fragmented HD. - problems can come from all directions... even if the game itself might be perfectly written... there is a chance that some 3rd party problems occur.( the way the OS handles the graphic drivers for example ) last but not least- be concise when reporting a problem, be helpful and be patient. there is not one bugfree piece of Software that i am aware of... and the lads at BIS are trying... really... they do :) my system: Processor Model : Intel® Core2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz Speed : 2.13GHz System System : Packard Bell BV iPower J8600 Mainboard : Packard Bell BV P5NSLI Bus(es) : PCI PCIe IMB USB i2c/SMBus Multi-Processor (MP) Support : No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (APIC) : Yes System BIOS : Phoenix Technologies, LTD P5NSLI 0204 Total Memory : 3GB Chipset Model : ASUS 0070h Front Side Bus Speed : 4x 267MHz (1.07GHz) Memory Module(s) Memory Module : Micron 8HTF12864AY-53EE1 1GB DIMM DDR2 PC2-4300U Memory Module : Micron 8HTF12864AY-53EE1 1GB DIMM DDR2 PC2-4300U Memory Module : Aeneon AET760UD00-30DB97X 1GB DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300U Memory Module : Aeneon AET760UD00-30DB97X 1GB DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300U Graphics Processor Adapter : GeForce 8800 GTX (1.00, 768MB, 1.33GHz) Audio Device : Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Operating System(s) Windows System : Microsoft Windows Vista Home 6.00.6001 (Service Pack 1) ArmAII avg FPS: 30 @ 1360x768 -
Excellent read! well done.

well.. if you havent downloaded any mods/addons yourself its safe to presume you are not using any. the Arma2/addons folder is default and hosts the BIS objects that come with the game. have you patched the game to the latest version? Patch 1.02.58134
-
are you using addons or ArmA ports?

try the configuration software from Wingman. http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/latest_soft_main.htm perhaps that will help. -
ALWAYS update to the latest patches. and more so if the game has just been released.

"should" be easy... i havent seen the demo but "technically" the config file should be the same... just copy and paste the text into the new one once the game is installed...
