  1. Another thing that seems to have changed behind my back is the server screen, this is how it looks now, so can I ask if this is how it also looks to everybody else?

I don't like it, for example where the heck have the filter controls gone?

And where's the box gone where I could type in the name of the server I'm looking for?

Is there any way I can get back to the dear old screen?

  2. I used to regularly build singleplayer test scenarios in Arma 3 until I got sidetracked into multiplayer, but now I've returned to the editor after a gap of almost a year and Arma 3 seems to have changed!
Specifically, whenever I try to set up tank platoon playtests with me in the command tank leading several other attached tanks, I can no longer issue orders to have them change formation or movement mode etc like I used to do.
For example in the old days my platoon would be labelled F1, so all I had to do was hit F1 then number 8 to get a list of formations to select from, but when I try it now, hitting F1 has no effect!

    Any ideas?

Just don't heal where people can see you, simple!

Right, but I found out the hard way several times that when you're wounded you can sometimes only walk at a snail's pace, (usually with a realistic limp) so you've got no option but to drop prone and try to heal yourself where you are, because you've got no chance of making it to cover.

PS- The snail thing is definitely in some King of the Hill multiplayer servers where I play most, but I don't know if it's in singleplayer.

  4. Hi, I used to do lots of mission building in Arma3 over a year ago, but now I've just tried to do it again but everything's changed!

When I select 'Editor' on the opening screen I'm taken to 'Eden', and I'm trying to re-learn a bunch of new keys and interfaces etc and keep getting stuck, for example my tanks won't engage the enemy, are they asleep?

Do I have to use Eden?  How did it get on my system anyway?

Is there any way I can go back to the dear old editor that I know like the back of my hand?

  5. I recently messed up a mod install so I re-installed Arma3 to get a clean slate and it runs fine except i can no longer get into multiplayer like I've been doing for the past year! Here's a screenshot of the multiplayer screen and nearly every server has got a red "unable to connect" balloon next to them, whereas in the past they were mostly green.

And if I click on one of the servers the message at bottom comes up, does it mean anything to you?

  6. I play on the King of the Hill multiplayer servers and the flares there seem to work realistically, but whether the same applies to singleplayer I don't know.

Based on 1200 hours KOTH play, I estimate that when firing a Titan Compact shoulder-launched missile at an airborne target that's popping flares, I get a hit approx 60 percent of the time against a juicy Mohawk and Hummingbird, but the hit chance drops for other targets such as-

    Pawnee 50%

    Blackfish 45 %

    Blackfoot 40%

    Kajman 30%

    Neophron 30%

    Wipeout 25%

Those figures are just my own estimates, they're not official.

Maybe the developers have realistically made some targets harder to hit than others because of a lower infra-red or radar signature? Or maybe they've made some flares better than others. Incidentally is chaff also released bundled in with the flares?

PS- some soft targets like the Mohawk, Hummingbird and Pawnee are almost guaranteed to crash after taking one missile hit, but the others usually need 2 or even 3 hits to shoot them down.

Do you play on servers with stamina/fatigue disabled?

No, I play on the King of the Hill servers (1200 hours over the past 9 months) and they haven't disabled stamina/fatigue and I wouldn't want them to because it's realistic just as Hamlet said- "Who would fardles bear, to grunt and sweat under a weary life".

Sure, i trail behind my faster-moving lighter-loaded teammates, but I don't dive into a ditch like they do when they see an enemy tank or jet approaching, I simply unsling my launcher and engage with a smug grin on my face bigger than a wave on a slop bucket, I like being known as a "Missileman" rather than an ordinary grunt..:)

And at other times when we see enemy rifle fire coming from a window, my mates dive for cover and start screaming "Where's Spike and his goody bag??" and I can either put a missile through the window, or sneak round the back and lay a satchel charge to demolish the building with the bad guys in it, because the enemy pose no threat if they're mush..:)

PS- what servers do you guys play on, I'm always on the lookout for other servers to have a crack at..:)

Is it truly that hard to understand why you can't run with that load out?

You're wearing a full plate carrier, launcher, the 2nd largest rucksack (no doubt loaded to the brim with ammo) and an assault rifle with attached grenade launcher.

Any sensible soldier in your instance would dump that bag or launcher at the first sign of contact.

We've all got our favourite loadouts, I personally load up with as much as I can carry and still run with, I'd feel naked without it, but other people prefer going into battle light.

  9. I used to lurv the MX 3GL to bits because I could pop off 3 grens in rapid succession to stomp the enemy target real bad, but since the v 1.66 update it's become too heavy to carry if I'm also carrying a launcher and a rucksack full of goodies (I can only walk not run).

So I either have to switch to a lighter rifle (but none of the others have rapid fire GLs, drat), or take less goodies so I can run again (sniffle)

PS- I play on the KOTH servers so I'm not sure whether 1.66 is to blame, or maybe the KOTH people have tweaked something, what do you think?

(For some reason i haven't been able to log into the KOTH forum since before christmas to ask there, and my emails to their support address go unanswered)

Below- my boy in the good old KOTH days before I had to dump the 3GL for something lighter in order to run-

  10. Oops I forgot to include the sniper with the "stripey" ghillie in the above test, but his Ghillie doesn't give him thermal protection anyway!

To recap, the 4 snipers are found in the 'Special Forces' section here, the stripey one is just called 'Sniper'.

Left to right- Sniper,  Sniper (Arid),  Sniper (Lush),  Sniper (Semi-arid)-

    aa3-snipH_zps5fguw8sq.jpg~original

A thermal view of them lined up, the Sniper in his stripey thing on the right is lit up like a christmas tree, but the Arid, Lush and Semi-arid are almost invisible except for their warm faces-

    aa3-snipB_zpsg1udosr9.jpg~original

And a rear view shows the same thing, Mr. Stripey stands out a mile but the other 3 are almost invisible-

    aa3-snipC_zpsxchwlbgf.jpg~original

WARNING!- this firing test below shows that the barrels of weapons GLOW HOT after a few rounds. The good news is that they cool off back to invisibilty after a couple of minutes (I waited and watched).

The other good news is that the hot barrels are such a tiny thermal image that the enemy might not even notice them on his thermals especially at medium/longish ranges, but as a precaution we could try to conceal the barrels til they've cooled by getting behind cover-

  11. Yes, some optics can actually be a hindrance rather than a help, so I tend to prefer good old iron sights in many cases.

For example a lot of scopes have got a fixed zoom (eg 5x etc) which makes it hard to keep the crosshairs on a nearish target that's moving fast across your field of view such as a running man, vehicle or chopper.
