You've seen that youtube video where an Iraqi insurgent dives into a wooden hut thinking he'll be safe from American rifle fire because they can't see him? Bad call, the grunts simply riddle the hut with rifle fire and shred him inside. There ya go..:) But in ArmA you can only riddle stuff yourself while the rest of your squad watch you like dummies because there's no way in the game to make them join in. Like I said its a standard real-world tactic, and until ArmA incorporates a 'squad area-fire' command I can't take the game seriously

I don't mean the computer-controlled units, I mean the members of my own squad. If I see an enemy soldier running into bushes I want to be able to order my whole squad to hose down the bushes with small-arms and grenade-launchers, just like in real-life. If ArmA wants us to pussyfoot around by not allowing such an order to be given, I'm very disappointed- "Inflict the maximum amount of wound, death and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time."-Patton "War is a bloody, killing business. You've got to spill their blood, or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shoot them in the guts"-Patton "The day goes to the side that is the first to plaster its opponent with fire."-Rommel "I have a high art, I hurt with cruelty those who would damage me." - Archilocus (Greek mercenary), 650 B.C. "Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you."-Harry S Truman

Guys, guys, what are you saying? Can I or can't I order my squad to pour area-fire into a location even if we can't see any targets in there? If it can't be done in ArmA I'm not sure I want to continue playing it. Other games have it- http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/FGMForum/showthread.php?t=513

To those who say it's possible, I'll buy that when you tell me what key to press

In that case realism flies out the window because its a standard real-life tactic

What?

Hi, I've had ArmA/QG for about a week and have been working through all the key commands to train myself up, but so far I haven't seen a key that allows area-fire, or have I missed it? For example if I suspect enemy infantry might be in a distant clump of trees or whatever, can I order my squad to spray it with small-arms area-fire even though no enemy units are visible? PS- Aargh sorry for the double-post, i'm new here

Hi, I installed the Gold Edition (includes ArmA and Queens Gambit expansion) and patched up to 1.14, but which exe. icon do I click, the ArmA one or the Queens Gambit one? I mean, QG is supposed to have extra units in it, so that's the one I should always play, right? Is the standard ArmA now obsolete and nobody plays it?

Annoying 'light meter' effect
pooroldspike replied to pooroldspike's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX and it can handle ArmdA smooth as silk on a mix of High and Very High settings. The games light meter effect is realistic but in my opinion is a little too severe especially under some lighting conditions, but I've found it can be overcome to a large extent in the editor by setting bright sunshine, so I'm happier than I was, especially as the scenery and graphics are sensational in bright sunlight, I shall certainly be posting some big stunning screenshots at my Few Good Men club in due course, can't post them here or i'll get told off again for being too big..;) PS- okay check out the first screenshot- http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/FGMForum/showthread.php?p=12177#post12177 -
Hi, I recently bought ArmA and patched to v.1.14 , it installed and plays beautifully but the graphics keep annoyingly darkening and lightening as the viewpoint is moved around. For example everything looks great (nicely-rendered green grass and buildings etc) until a bit of sky creeps into the frame, then the whole picture darkens and the grass and buildings etc become dull and grey, just like when the aperture of a camera automatically closes down if bright sky hits the light meter. Is that normal for ArmA or do I need to adjust some settings etc? I'm WinXP Home v2002 SP3 Intel Core 2, 3.33 Ghz 3 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+ Thanks

Sorry, can't this forum layout take it? I'm a bigshot Colonel, screenshot king and wargame champion over at the Few Good Men club where they have no trouble at all displaying my sensational wargaming pics..;) http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/FGMForum/index.php As regards the light meter effect, I've decided I can live with it because that's how the human eye works so I suppose its realistic. I'll stick with ArmA for a while to see if I like it and then maybe issue some challenges.. PS-I hear there's a WW2 mod for ArmA which I like the sound of.. -
Annoying 'light meter' effect

No joy (sniffle) the default was 8 (as in the screenshots), and I then tried 16 and 32, neither of which made a blind bit of difference. Incidentally the arma.cfg file isn't in the ArmA directory at all, but is in my separate Documents folder, it must have installed there on its own initiative, crazy! PS- I also tried 0 and 128 but again it made not a blind bit of difference, the screens looked exactly like the two screenshots! -
Annoying 'light meter' effect
pooroldspike replied to pooroldspike's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Okay, it seems simpler than the other suggestions so tell me what to do..:) And just to make it crystal clear to everybody what i'm moaning about, the first screenshot below is perfection, but when I raise my eyes in the second pic and the bright sky creeps in, the ground features become dull and boring. This is the first game I've encountered that features such a "light meter" effect and I don't like it at all.. > 100kb > 100kb -
Annoying 'light meter' effect
pooroldspike replied to pooroldspike's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks, at the moment I'm juggling the in-game and Nvidia brightness/contrast/gamma settings and have got partial success but if i can't get it any better we'll try following up the other suggestions in this thread tomorrow. PS- I got this below from the support team but again its too techy for me to understand what they're talking about- Dear customer, try to run game with -nosplash / -nomap / -maxmem parameters -

Sorry mate I don't know what you're talking about, I'm just a grunt wargamer not a PC nerd. I was hoping to review the game for the Few Good Men club http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/FGMForum/index.php -
