Simple ArmA 2 Terrain Tutorial
Gnome_AS replied to luki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
That seems like an odd situation to me, regarding the tutorial. Pretty sure it unfolds as advertised. Very happy to hear you have sorted things though. :) . -
Nice post there Macadam the cow. Just thought I'd pipe in and say I think this is excellent work. While it might not hold a direct placement in things, there has been conversation on the terrain editing side, regarding the usage of community built elements. This being a perfect example of what said "element" would be. Very nice work, I can appreciate the time involved and I think you've advertised it very well. If I was someone like Gnat, or the others (with a map out) I'd certainly jump on this. But thats just me ;) .

Excellent piece of work there, would love to see more. Looking forward to seeing it in game. :) .

ACE 1.8 (Advanced Combat Enviroment) for OA/CO
Gnome_AS replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Many thanks for all the hard work ACE team, used daily. Been keeping up with dev releases from the begining and it's been great to see all the functional stuff hitting the battlefield. Really nice to see many of the 3rd party addons making it into the mix also. Quite busy you peoples are, keep up the excellent work. :) . -
Clicketh the image in Bushlurkers signature ... alternatively click here and look in the tutorials. .

Problem with Custom Texture
Gnome_AS replied to commander1985's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Hey Commander, sorry to hear you're still running into a wall with this. I'd be happy to see if I can help you out. If you have the time to upload things somewhere, I'll make some time to look at them. Unfortunately nothing really jumps out at me while reading, but I'm sure we can get it sorted. . -
Excellent work guys, looking forward to this. Nice to see people teaming up on things. :) .

So we could suggest you do the tutorial? :p Really though, B is right. The best way to sort this stuff out is to complete the tutorial. Then you'll have a pretty good oversight on things, and a good working base. Until you can see the global picture of how it all works together, you can't really develope each of the individual pieces accurately. Simply due the fact that they interact with each other in many different ways. So having a global perspective on things is beneficial. Plus having everything working and in the right places helps. Alot ;) .

Is it possible to draw height map yourself?
Gnome_AS replied to glowbal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Just to second Bushlurkers suggestion regarding L3DT. Personally, for the specific task of developing maps for this engine, I've not run across a more intuitive or useful application. ;) . -
Blue overlapping onto land
Gnome_AS replied to [evo] dan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Personally I would start by just shifting the hue in the problem areas to a dirt/sand color. Should make things much better straight away. Simple how to for PS: Press (L) for the Lasso tool, select the problem areas, press (Ctrl+U) and dink with sliders. When happy, press ok. There are a lot of ways to accomplish this. You could also brush it out on a seperate layer and merge when happy. . -
[Tutorial] Diffuse Map Basics
Gnome_AS replied to max power's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
I think that would be an excellent one to put together. I'm just now getting around to educating myself on these things relative to arma shader support. I recently searched for SMDI info and workflow thoughts. Needless to say, it's somewhat lacking. ;) . -
[Tutorial] Diffuse Map Basics
Gnome_AS replied to max power's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
Hey Max, good read, lots of helpful info for beginners I think. Images are a little small. Magical "browser zoom" and all is well though (trivial imo). Thanks for investing the time to put it together, I'm sure people will find it useful. Look forward to future updates :) . -
Blue overlapping onto land
Gnome_AS replied to [evo] dan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Assuming you've removed all the blue coloring from the sat image, just reimport the sat/mask. Or are you asking about how to remove the color from the sat image? . -
Blue overlapping onto land
Gnome_AS replied to [evo] dan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Perhaps it's the sat image bleeding onto the shore line? (shot in the dark) . -

WIP: Stuff you are working on 2!
Gnome_AS replied to max power's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Sup guys, looks like theres a lot of cool stuff in the works. :) Quick WIP update on the Mk V SOC. Haven't had much free time the last couple weeks but I did find some time to get things unwrapped. Still have the dash and seats to tackle, but that should be trivial. Coming along fairly well all in all. --- --- --- . -
Nice 2nd post :) Guess thats possible also, thought I tested a super huge map with terrainsynth on though. Remember it was 102km, forget the settings though. Have to look when I get back to that box.

Looking for the location of some objects in the CA folder

P:\ca\Data\Library I'll also mention that having your entire arma installation unpacked holds superior advantages. . -
Simple ArmA 2 Terrain Tutorial
Gnome_AS replied to luki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Suppose it could be that you just need to reimport the sat/mask. Make sure you delete everything in your *\*\data\layers folder before doing such. Fire buldozer and let it rebuild, then repack. Generally speaking .rvmat issues seem to revolve around pathing as with most other things. You can always check the log file from binPbo also. Sometimes you'll see valid data there. . -
Really hard dicipher anything without some more info. Project settings in particular. Off the top of my head I would assume something is out of sorts there. Could be a number of things I suppose, more info ftw. There could be inherent issues with that high a res and the 4096HF, I've run 2560 with no issues. .

Many of the buildings just don't have the positions in the models, so no place for the AI to go. At the same time this improves performance drastically in a map like this. I'd hate to think how it would play with OA buildings. .

Using visitor scripting to set object size

Roger that Synide. Thanks for a fair explanation there.
