    RE: The Freetrack poll

You are categorically wrong, Rocket. You make it sound like radical code changes are required but it is merely an additional code unit that controls the camera, it can be disabled by default so there is no risk of it breaking anything. By adding it in a patch the retail version is clean and only people that apply the patch are affected. Many games had TrackIR support added in a patch, like GRID, TOCA Race Driver 2, LockOn, Ship Simulator 2008, Nitro Stunt Racing, DiRT, IL2, Richard Burns Rally, Warbirds and many more. Also, since Arma2 already has provisions for TrackIR, adding an alternative interface would be incredibly straight forward.

    RE: The Freetrack poll

People were used to using FreeTrack in ArmA and were surprised to discover it was blocked in ArmA2, so it makes sense that this caused some frustration. The real disappointment lies in NaturalPoint's belief it is necessary and justified to block homebrew head tracking.

Do you wish to have BattlEye in ArmA II?

BattleEye would stop FreeTrack from working. :/
  4. Delta Force's voxel grass can't be beaten. Grass needs to work first and foremost. Stuff the animation, density and rendering of individual blades. The current grass situation wreaks of eye candy over functionality which is completely at odds with the ArmA philosophy. Stupidly, instead of immersion in grass improving your odds of survival, it only serves to reduce it by obstructing your view.

It would be nice if the petition had the option to leave a comment.

    Bigfoot...has anyone found him?

Don't you dare kill bigfoot! No wonder he's hiding.
  7. Can't play without head tracking!

    realistic carnage

I lost all respect for them when they decided to glorify killing by using slo-mo cinematics. They kept banging on about historical authenticity yet they think it's ok, normal even, to visually admire someone being torn apart in the midst of battle, like some sort of twisted gore perverted serial killer. I would think even people that way inclined, in such a situation, would be more interested in trying to keep their head down and in one piece than jerking off to the demise of a fellow human being. Have some freaking respect. I'm all in favor of gore and dismemberment in a war sim like Arma2, as long as it's as authentic as possible and restrained, not glorified or exaggerated.

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

x64 needs signed drivers which free software probably can't afford ppjoy is a pain to setup and joystick emulation less precise anyway And you can't make concessions and be satisfied with an inferior alternative when the industry standard interface is being unfairly and possibly illegally blocked. I mean, if joystick emulation is not good enough for TrackIR then it shouldn't be good enough for FreeTrack either.

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

"Requires signed license agreement" = contract
  12. Hyp3rdyn3

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

The legal contract that BIS needed to sign to get the TrackIR SDK. The one that Eagle Dynamics signed that stopped them from adding FreeTrack support to Black Shark and also stopped them from exposing their own 6DOF interface. That legal contract.

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

No no no. It's a feature. What's new in ARMAII? #1431 Updated TrackIR interface. Now with more TrackIR. :P

Explosions in ArmA2 - Sound related

That doesn't look like a very professional recording to judge from, it really needs to be recorded with proper equipment to get the most accurate sound spectrum possible. I would guess that the low frequency boom exists but is being lost/transformed in the recording.

    Better sound design Please

Battlefield Bad Company has some of the best sound in the industry, if only it were an industry standard. Sound is almost always treated with a low priority and, sadly, it really shows in ArmA2.

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

Mr. 'Winder, what you've just typed out, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who has seen your post is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Please keep the topic away from FT vs TIR and concentrate on FreeTrack support in Arma2.

    ArmA II's infinite land

I think it's a gross simplification to shift blame entirely onto the publisher for the state of the infinite terrain. BIS clearly have not given it a high priority and I tend to agree with this decision.

    How's ARMA2 AI shaping up?

Yeah, don't window-dress their stupidity, just give it to us raw.
  19. Hyp3rdyn3

    Camera shaking

Normally IRL you would get physical feedback in the presence of very low frequency energy waves but since that is not possible in a game it is best represented as visual feedback. A computer audio system, even a HDR system, simply can't substitute for the physical aspect. Providing camera shake as a means of visual feedback makes the game much more realistic and immersive as you appreciate the intensity of a tank rumbling past, the aircraft afterburner thundering a few feet off the ground and the shockwave of explosions hitting your body.
  20. BF2 has smaller maps than ArmA but air superiority, ie A2A, is very important.

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

Head tracking breaks fundamental Marine weapons handling and driving rules; 'Guns ’n’ eyeballs' (always keep your gun pointing where you're looking) 'Keep your eyes on the road' So unless it is used very sparingly, it is quite possible that it actually reduces your chance of survival.

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

Most games don't let you assign joystick axes to the view, we are lucky that ArmA does let you, but it is limited to a single joystick so you can't use a real joystick at the same time. PPJoy does not work on 64bit systems because it does not have any 64bit drivers. 64bit drivers need to be certified.

    I want HEIGHT

I can just imagine AI being able to use rooftops and just standing around in the middle of the roof, exposing themselves against the sky, making themselves very obvious and not using their position to any advantage. They would need to understand that a rooftop is a special firing platform, that they need to keep a low profile and use the edge of the roof as cover, preferably exposing themselves only when targets are close so as to maximise the ambush potential. Just allowing ai to use a rooftop, in their present state, may achieve little more than making them look stupid(er).
