  1. This works out in favourite games where there are so many servers + players that its hard to give them indenty. In this game there is plenty indentity because of the low player count. Also when the new game has come out new players who are not used to people killing while not appearing in the screen will say that : "Stop cheating" nonscense and if this idea of yours get implemented any player with past experience in the game will get blacklisted instead of just getting kicked and joining another server. ( why is lone wolfing called in the same list of people who cheat and actively disrupt games? )

    Well the thing was the id of a guy was easy to copy so people could steal your id rather quickly. This problem was mostly taken away only allowing the admin to see ids. The md5 takes longer to crack exspecially with such high values but it is doable by letting a coder program make codes itself and let the programs compare it with the original algorythm. It can solve 8 number/letter code combination within 1 minute this way. Luckily for us the cd-key uses a little more than just 8 numbers and time growth from that point on grows exponantionally but everyone can obtain your code eventually. So i think this guy would like see admin side ID viewing only to completely minimalise the threat of impersonators.

    quick review. If you like solid gameplay, cooperation and nice view on how pvp should be in arma than this is the thing you want to play. But also if you like to see more action, prefer to play solo and do actions on your own accord its better to join a good pvp server instead. All in all i believe everyone who has arma should at least played ic-arma since it can be just what you have been searching for all this time. Although you bit late with arma2 around the corner ;)

    Batlefield heroes finally out? I checked it out in summer but it wasnt finnished then. Guess im also same type of gamer then. Agree about mmorpgs just created to make people addicted, but i also find myself trieing them out. But im resolute about it now. But same things annoy me to see game developer talk about his game being realistic and then see something completely idiot happening in a cutscene 5 seconds later ;) I do hope arma2 will have some extra features for cadet settings arma 1 seemed very unfriendly when it came to pvp ballance. And I like coop no doubt about so I want the game to be nice and as realisticly possible but I also enjoy pvp and then ballance between vehicles etc is hard to find while for pvp its the only game that offers this gameplay.

    Ah but can you judge a pvp game then if you seem to favour coop? ;) I like these mods a lot but my friends for example didnt like ofp. And even after trieing to play some cool mods with them they stayed on that opinion. The only games that do have effect on this are rts games. In rts games the feel is mostly the same. But unit ballance/price etc can ruin the atmoshpere then a mod can fix it. If you dont like not having a fast button to board a vehicle, or extra time needed to aim and not being able to shoot while running at all and no mod is going to safe you then :)

    Well I do disagree a bit there if you dont like flashpoint/arma you will not like mods made for it either. The base feel stays pretty much the same meaning movement and aiming system. Its all modable sure but there is large difference between riverbatlle/berzerk and battlefield other than just body hitpoints :D It will keep you from getting bored though.

    I remember in vegas 2 if you aimed the cam at your face the game did this itself automaticly and presses down the filesize of this automaticly. So that noob guys dont come with 180kb size file or have 30kb like me but with 80% quality degradation ( also noob ) Also its always a bit of a bitch to figure out the lines the games uses of the picture.

    Difference between the 2 games lies mostly in engine. At least I think arma2 will have a lot of of following stuff fixed till a certain extend. But still gives you a bit of a idea of the difference between these 2 games. Battlefield is bigger than counter strike but still the server uses about the same intern fps ( about 1000 fps intern ). It is lower than this value but decend enough for both reasonable large scale fighting and cqc combat. I have heard not that much complaints about the movabillity in these games, but in discussions between the game source always seems to attract the more fast paced players + I get kicked way faster with higher latency on Counter Strike. Ping vs Bandwith: Ping is still more important than bandwith. Even though project reality aims on more realistic aproach the engine is all about fast paced and being able to contiuanly hit a person before this person hits the floor while most of the times still moving themselfes to avoid getting hit. What im trieing to say is that bf is pretty fast paced with responding controls. From Armed Assault I dont know the exact server fps but the servers that I had privilige of getting admin never reached above 80 fps ( and this was with about 20 people on it and no ai ) ( average was around 20-30 ) This seems to be whole tactic that allows the large scale warfare in arma. Ping can reach up to 300 without any visible lag as long as the bandwith is ok, i think it can go even higher compared to flashpoint. This means though that the movabillity in this game is a issue. It doesnt matter that much since the game focusses on being realistic and often takes place in larger enviroments, but still you can often find yourself being a tad to slow even for being realistic. Since aiming takes longer and often having the chance to spot the enemy sooner ( or other way around ). This all works out great unless you get into cqc. Not only is the moveability off your character slower and sometimes even inresponsive. Also you will often die in situations where normally you would have survived in battlefield. For example someone is shooting you and you just manage to dash around a wall...you will still die, the game is not fast enough for this. ( again might get fixed with new ai system in arma2 ) One the things that also different is aiming system. In battlefield most your aiming is constant to your mouse speed. In armed assault you can put your mouse over a target but it will take time before your gun actually alligns with this. There are some tricks to bypass this though for the experts ;). Using the aiming of the gun itself and you will find out that each gun has unique handling, the aiming system is so complex that when a new addon arrives you will have trouble adjusting 2 new weapons. ( or could just be me ) And last but not least the animations. While in bf you get into a vehicle, rearm your rocketweapon while running and jumping to the ground almost instantly. This all takes sometimes takes up to seconds in arma. Which often also decides whetever you live or die. This makes the game really interesting when making these choices but on other hand if you just pressed r and see a gun pointing in your direction you rather want to just throw that clip into the air and duck behind cover instead of waiting 3 seconds while enemy getting clear shot. And I often do a silly dance when a sniper switches to handgun before i pull him full of lead to show him that not switching to handgun was probably a better idea. What I am trieing to say is that even though arma is super concept and decently worked out. It is because of this concept that the gameplay is overall slower compared to other games. I personally like it a lot because of all the cover and concealment + 1 hit kill and I even heard arma2 will randomise the places of concealment. But the start is definantly not going to be easy. From flashpoint ( previous game of bis ) to arma there were already tons of people quiting because of the slower controls so I guess for a battlefield player like you it is going to be even harder. But this game is loved because of following: Its realistic, really large and all this with decent gameplay The game leaves a lot of opening for the player his style anything takes skill from piloting a chopper to even handling a rifle. And of course its really easy to mod and almost everything appart from the engine can be changed. This means that next to normal coop/pvp maps you get rpgmaps/rts maps/rts pvp combined maps/zombie survival and with the easy mission editor its possible to make simple maps for yourself and friends 2. Although bit discouraging sometimes when you see what a good scripter can do with a simple coop mission ;) Hope this shows the difference a bit in those games.
  10. I know I am probably to late with this :) But I would like see for pvps sake that there is mode introduced that affects the game to be more pvp like. With the addition of a set mode would be easier for the community instead of scripting of making use of addons to divert this. Flashpoint was on pvp level quite interesting. The tank for example was really a tank. If it entered a town you could hide but with a few rounds the tank into the town you would find no hiding spot good enough for these terrorising monsters. In return these tanks were often not in large numbers avaible on the map either because of set quanity or higher price in other maps. This was because towns were not that big and there was more open terrain. In arma this was not much the case so the extra commander machine gun was nice asset for urban combat. But the health of the tank was lowered so much that the tank would almost get disabled each time it got hit by even a single rpg. The once epic tank battles got replaced by a fight of which tank made the shot earlier than the other won. Player wise the low quantity of these tanks avaible, the extra noice and easy to spot target you become when sitting in one made the tank a pvp deathtrap. One the problems that also occured with the coming of the higher view distance was the effectiveness of locked on missles. Tanks and at missles in flashpoint with only a view distance of 1200 was almost evenly strenghted. There were some exploits avaible if you had people in your team or ai in the field you could lock onto targets far out of the view distance but it was scripted out. ( like a year later out of most good maps ) With coming of way higher view distances of around 4k the missles have become a bit to effective to actually discuss skill required in order to kill someone. Ai tank gunners on this range for example start to miss more often and taking the shot yourself on these ranges require bit more skill than the normal right click left click kill. Anyway before I turn this page into one long rant of complaints of pvp in arma. This is what I would like to see for this setting in arma 2. * Better armour for ballance with tanks * Auto locked missles disabled ( aa only weapon with lock but disabled to lock onto ground targets ). Also for choppers. * Basicly everything else one could come up with to make the game more challenging for a pvp player. I personally never minded superior fire power of the chopper in pvp combat but its skill wise its nicer to see a chopper move in for the kill and actually get in trouble when a shilka is in the area compared to the air superiority of arma.
