  1. If you pre-order CoDR today, you'll get a *drumroll*... BONUS MISSION.

    http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/08/06/extra-mission-for-gamestop-operation-flashpoint-dragon-rising-p/

Such a news reveals CM marketing strategy and their target audiences ("OMFG a BONUS MISSION, look at BIS they never did that!!! OMG WTF BBQ" - generic CM fanboy)

Honestly, this isn't something I personally would expect from a pre-order "bonus" (if any), since after day 1, missions will (or should) flow like water out of the community. Except the editor is crap. But let's wait and see (if the editor is in the demo). Otherwise I feel sorry for the dudes buying a pig in a poke... :j:

  2. I searched this thread but couldn't find anything so I hope this question wasn't asked before:

Will players of the expansion pack be able to play on "pure" ArmA2 servers?

Or better, will expansion servers include everything from the original game so the original exe becomes redundant?

The latter is hard to imagine since it's a standalone expansion, but well, BIS is always good for some surprises :D

A "game-linking option" would rock :yay:

  3. For example:

The crcti-game went along and was exciting for hours indeed and people did much points. And felt high ranked. I found the enemy base and nobody was interested in that message for all forgot that crcti is about destroying enemy base. I took a support vehicle, rode straight to the base - had a lot of luck doing that but also used a lot concealment and cover tactics.

I then destroyed the enemy base from quite afar with rpgs I reloaded from my support vehic.

    Game was over then.

I had about a 5 % of the points of most gamers. ;-)

No, I don't accept someone ranking me then into the least 5 %.

Yeah, that's why I'd like to see the "I" scoreboard being removed as well. But I guess it's necessary for the DM and CTF missions.

Some dudes get a boner by being on the top, killed lots of tanks and inf, boasting around and calling other players "noobs"... while I'm at the very bottom of this list but satcheling the base and winning the game for us

Who the hell invented "achievements" anyway.

To me, it seems to be some kind of EA disease, implemented into games that get boring very soon, just to keep players motivated wasting their time with.

A good game does not NEED achievements and ranking system (and neither do simulations). Full stop.

  4. Anyone tried out NAM (built on Duke Nukem engine) I made with my buddies, sequel to the Platoon Total Conversion for Duke? ;)

Are you serious? My opinion to this game is rather negative, so if you decide to read on, don't take it personal :p

That game was awful. I remember my cousin brought it along from Ukraine so it was in Russian language and the few briefings which were recorded audio files were so low-quality, I couldn't figure out what the hell they were saying (I don't even know if it was Russian or English). Anyway I couldn't understand a thing, which actually didn't really matter as it was only run and gun. The sounds and graphics (soldiers looked as "painted" with MS Paint) were plain crap for being released in 1998. By that time I was not sure what to think of that game, is it a simulation or what?

If so, the engine was completely unsuitable, because I wasn't really able to sneak around, in contrary, I was Duke Nukem in da Jungle and the AI was... well Duke Nukem style: Placed sprites that will get active if something is triggered within their reaction radius.

The only thing I actually liked were the large maps, but then again the missing details ruined that for me.

I figured out that I could use the old Duke Nukem cheats and so more or less enthusiastically beat myself through the levels only to erase the game from my hard drive (and my memory).

I never found out how GT Interactive could agree to publish that. Maybe you could enlighten me? :D

  5. - It's not like you can't run & shoot at the same time in real life.

Yeah sure you can do that. But it's not like you could hit anyone or anything while doing that, except maybe your own legs.

    Try that in "real life".

    - ...having things like not being able to jump

Yeah sure you can do that. But it's not like you wouldn't die of exhaustion after jumping around with your loads of gear and your gun in your hands.

    Try that in "real life".

not being able to do a handbrake turn in your vehicle

Yeah sure you can do that. But it's not like you wouldn't totally destroy your vehicle's gear and braking system after a short period of time.

    Try that in "real life".

    - The amount of controls in the game is overwhelming for me to be honest. There's just so many things you can do & it felt like I needed to have an amazing memory in order to remember everything. It was like the Flight Simulator version of an FPS.

Hence the name "Military Combat SIMULATOR"?

    - When on a multiplayer server, it took SO LONG for me to find any action that I may aswell have gone & made a cup of coffee while I waited.

Actually, everybody makes a cup of coffee after joining a multiplayer server. I see nothing wrong with that.

It's nobody's fault that you bought the wrong game. You obviously didn't even read the tagline of the game title (did I mention "Military Combat SIMULATOR"?).

In conclusion, yeah, you should have informed yourself earlier.

  6. Yeah. Actually that part you quoted doesn't make much sense as it seems to be directly translated from Chinese without reviewing (The source stated is a Chinese newspaper).

Well, but wikipedia is free to edit for everybody, so check those sources and you can have a lot of fun :p
