The (russian?) guy who hacked DayZ months ago and was showing pictures of the source code files, also showed a little tool for creating EBO files. Once you get that tool, you can see how it works, and reverse engineer a tool to decrpyt it, so by the time bohemia were to actually give you EBO capability, if they ever did (I don't think they should) then it would almost certainly be worthless.

BWI Addons - Aircraft & Vehicles
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to nzdfcrash's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Moving trains, if they happen, will probably be a cooperative effort by a crapload of people across several skype channels. (Model makers, terrain makers, maybe scripting, etc.) There's a lot of investigating being done as to the feasibility of such things, and various ideas have sprung up as to how they might work. I think one of the more interesting ones I remember hearing is having the geolods "connect" with each other, assuming it can be made stable enough, and then have the speed limited so it doesn't jump the rails -
Hypothetical Mod Collaboration
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to ReVee's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The problem here is that, yet again, we have somebody who isn't an addon maker, trying to impose some mythical mod "standard" onto addon makers. (I don't mean you, btw, I mean the OP) -
How do you make a workshop addon
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to ithedog's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
You're not allowed to upload somebody elses work to the steam workshop, and the files will almost certainly be removed shortly. -
AppleGate Community Project WIP
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to falcos's topic in ARMA 3 - TERRAIN - (BUILDER)
Thanks man. (Also, because I'm unsure if you misinterpreted my post, I'm not trying to use his work in MANW. I just noticed that killernetworkgaming (One of the links you have in your first post) was using the models, indeed had copied and pasted the entire applegate city, onto their custom map, claiming it as their own work, entered to win MANW.) -
CO 21 PMC Sandbox - Outlaws PSG (By Fr33d0m - Mediusgaming.com)
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to Fr33d0m's topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
Are you serious????. Your pbo is named, aka the file name of the PBO is... "co@21_pmc-sandbox-outlawspsg.altis". Now, you're apparently only using it to refer to the generic term PMC, the modern term for mercenaries. If that's the case then there's obviously no problem. But because of how this community works, and because "pmc" is the first thing on your filename, and because it's the only 3 letter acronym on the file, it violates the naming conventions for files in this community, because the only tag in the file name belongs to somebody else. If you're going to use TMN, then you put it first, not "PMC". Also, Snake's post was a friendly heads up, because you're new to the community and apparently didn't know what he was informing you. He didn't mention lawyers, he didn't mention lawsuits, he just told you the facts of life. PMC as a tag was registered with OFPEC a long time ago, and his group is the one that uses it for their addons. Yours is apparently TMN. The easy and obvious fix is to put TMN at the beginning of your PBO filename. That's the only thing you'd need to do, and you already use it in other places in your own words, so there's no issue. You responded in a hostile manner to somebody who was simply alerting you that he has the PMC tag. Just calm the hell down. Just as a side note here, Snake has been on these forums for the last 13 years. Without him an awful lot of addons and terrains and missions would not be possible. His website looks the way it does because it's simple and easy to navigate. His work has earned more respect and more players than your ever will, and while he can be an asshole at times (like everybody can. Also, he wasn't one in this thread.) he's done more for this community than 75% of the members, or even 90% of the members. Give respect where respect is due, man, and don't jump on somebody for trying to tell you shit you need to know. -

I'm curious. Who would make this mod? Or are you saying this should be done up by BI? -
Why couldn't all the modders work together, and make something better than ACE
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to Ckrauslo's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Let's see... This thread itself violates... §1) No Flaming/Flame-baiting/bigotry (It's flame-baiting because it's been asked before, is kind of a stupid question, and the OP should expect the negative response from the start.) §5) No Spam §7) Search before posting Seriously, this has been asked at least a half dozen times before. It's also been couched as a MANW entry idea, and various other crap. and of course by your own admission, you are in violation of §23) Do not abuse the "report post to a moderator" function. I agree with Kiory, on one point at least, and that is that no matter what we do, Addonmakers are always going to get shit on because somebody wanted something different. It's the way it has worked since the before the Twelve Tribes left Kobol, and it's the way it's going to work until The Federation finally springs into existence. It is literally impossible for "all the modders" to get together on one project, because everybody has different levels of skill, different interests, different tools, different methods, and of course different personalities and politics. What this thread is, is somebody who wants an uber mod, is disappointed because there is no ACE for A3, and wants the mod of his dreams. He asked the question, I answered it. Pufu answered it before me, and others before/after him. He doesn't like the answer, so he continues this pointless thread. As far as you reporting me, that I can understand. I did not violate the rules, I did not personally attack the OP, I simply stated that he must have his head up his ass because he's ignoring the very answer he sought, and because I've seen this question a hundred times before. But because of my choice of words, I accept that you may have taken issue with it and reported it. What I don't really understand is you reporting Pufu. Pufu has been, from what I've seen, very civilized, refrained from using the type of language I prefer in these situations, and has somehow kept his patience while dealing with an OP who doesn't give a shit unless the answer is "YES, ALL MODDERS WILL NOW WORK ON THIS UBER MOD AND YOU CAN BE THE IDEA GUY CAUSE YOU'RE AWESOME DUDE!!!1!11!!!!1!!!". Apparently he has the urge to use the type of language I've used, judging by his thanking me (which I got a good laugh at. you're welcome btw, Pufu) but chooses not to do so, yet you report him anyways. Kinda bullshit, in my opinion. Let's try another example of how this community, like all communities, works. You might try to generically lump together interests and say modders could possibly get along and do an uber mod, for different wars or eras. Nope. For the WWII era there are at least 4 major mods, and various smaller mods. Some people prefer to only release individual vehicles. Others, aircraft. Some people prefer more realism, others more arcade. Some prefer A3 ballistics, others custom ballistics. Some use research from source A, others prefer it from source B. Some like The Eastern Front, Some specifically Poland in '39, some The Pacific, some the entire European Theater. Every single person has different preferences. Sometimes a bunch of addonmakers have preferences that are similar enough to work together on a bigger project, and they meld into one big creature with unique DNA that the scientific community refers to as "A Mod Team". However, with there being hundreds, if not thousands, of people doing addons for OFP, ArmA 1, ArmA 2, Operation Arrowhead, and ArmA 3 these days, getting everybody together to work on a single project that they don't like, just because you, the end user wants it, is not going to happen. Not unless you pay them what their work is worth, and guess what, you'll be shitting through millions of dollars in the first couple months alone. What you want isn't a mod, it's a brand new frakking game. You're not going to get it. Your opinions, as an idea guy, don't really matter. Your voice as an end user doesn't matter unless you're giving a specific addonmaker or a group of them input that they're actually looking for. Addonmakers make stuff for their own purposes, their own desires, or their own needs. Stuff is made for friends. Stuff is made to help out other addonmakers. Occasionally an addonmaker may be in a good enough mood to go through the addon request threads for ideas, and make one of those ideas, which happens every so often and is the reason those threads exist. But each individual makes what they want to make, or what they choose to make, and that's one of the reasons why this super-mod isn't going to happen. Please, for the love of Kobol, put an end to this thread. -
Why couldn't all the modders work together, and make something better than ACE
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to Ckrauslo's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
To put it in the simplest language possible: It's not going to frakking happen. Everybody has different interests. Some like WWII, some like Vietnam, some like WWI, The Gulf War, The Israeli conflicts, fictional conflicts, realism, arcade, etc. etc. etc. If you think for a moment that "all the modders" (aka the addon makers, I'm assuming the terrain makers, the scripters, the texturers, the sound guys, etc. etc. etc.) could actually get together and make an Uber-ACE then I'm sorry to have to inform you that your head has been shoved so far up your own posterior that your eyes have turned brown and you're beginning to see daylight. ACE was one mod team. Handful of guys. Very talented guys, for the most part, but still a single mod team. ACE is currently still active, so if you want it you'll just have to wait. If you want an uber mod, then go sit in the zone designated for the other 500,000 nitwits who've thought of this idea before you. You want to be an idea guy, then I suggest you go work for the IDF and dream up some propaganda for them. This thread has no legitimate reason to exist. The question is an ignorant one, and is seriously making me reconsider my stance that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Please, for the love of The Lords of Kobol, pull your head out of your posterior and think before you post ignorant spammy threads such as this. -
Let's see... The Battle Hymn of the Republic is one that goes back to the 1860's... Another song from around the same time period... Here's a really old and fairly unknown song, unknown origins, unknown author, about the boston tea party. (Ignore the fact that it's apparently a shirtless teenager singing it. With this type of music, only weird people sing it. ;) )The Yankee Man-of-War tis 3am, too tired to dig for more. :P

Can I see some proof as far as Sirel76 (El76) being on your team, or that he consented to giving up his rights, or that you have a legal document showing that he will share in any reward you may receive as a result of this project? Because if there is none then I'm sorry to say that you are, to put it simply, shit out of luck. -
Still same deadline for Addon category?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to mr. bravo's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - GENERAL
I'm not even going to bother going through that giant wall of text (which I did read) to quote, I'm just going to respond. They announced the contest before Steam went live and before their site was 100% because guess what, neither of those two things impact the contest *at all*. They are not, were not, required for people to start their work *when the contest was announced*. The rules were posted when it was announced. The clear, precise deadline was posted when it was announced. Those are the only two things an addonmaker or mod team require to start their work. This is not a "public" competition like I'm starting to think you think it is. This a bunch of people make stuff, submit it to the judges, and the judges decide what wins. There is no competing against other teams in the buildup to the deadline, it's purely a contest to see whose finished product is the best, with the products being made in mostly isolated, radio silent, etc. etc. type conditions. There is absolutely no logical reason for Bohemia to push back the deadline they set down last year. The only argument that even holds water is the one I previously pointed out, but as you are not using that particular argument, you don't have a leg to stand on here. It's not going to happen, your reasons do not make sense/are not logical/come across as mostly hot air. The only reason anybody involved in MANW would want to extend the deadline is because they will not be ready to meet it, which just sort of makes this thread one big sad but slightly amusing mess. -
Still same deadline for Addon category?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to mr. bravo's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - GENERAL
The only legitimate reason for a delay would be to give people time to deal with all the errors and issues that have popped up in the last couple patches, and in the last bunch of tools releases. The site doesn't mean diddly squat, they announced the deadline, there isn't going to be a big public competition/race/thing that you want because the vast majority of the mod teams, including yours, apparently, are working in silence leading up to the submission deadline. Once the deadline is reached, then people vote, then the judges judge, and that's that. -

Do you have any links to these videos and comparison shots of this person's work? Without proof nothing can be done, as it's just one person's word against another's. -

Shouldn't be any problem to dock on autohover with a few minutes of practice. The simplest solution is always the best, and in this case no extravagant docking animation is needed, just effort by the user. -
I was making a WWI / WWII crack, I had no inkling of their past interactions in the WC. xD

Germany vs. France? I have a gut feeling on how this one will turn out... ;)

We went out on our shields, and they played the game of their lives at the end. Also, the final tally was 16 goals blocked, not 30. ;)

War Beyond the Horizon
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to chacalik's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - TOTAL MODIFICATION
Stoogie, there's no download link, and as of yet there are no ships. If you read carefully you will find that the only thing being worked on currently is the scripting. It would take more time than MANW allows to come up with a fleet such as what he's planned out above, so I wouldn't get your hopes too high just yet. Especially seeing how Bohemia keeps breaking their own tools and missions with these new updates. -

Darkhorse 1-6 replied to anthariel's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
It's been used plenty in the past. I think it was used during the Vietnam War, and I know for a fact it was used during WWII by Germany and possibly Italy. I would think it would be best to show the true face of war, as the nasty and heartless instrument of power and greed and revenge that it is. While it's not necessary to use the Red Cross or Crescent, etc. (Just the Diamond, as used by BI) keeping the vehicles and buildings painted with it completely neutral just portrays a fanciful view of conflict, one that sugarcoats just how far humanity can sink in a time of war. I'm not saying anybody who uses it for MANW should portray it's misuse as the right thing to do, as it is a war crime and should be treated as such, but the important thing to remember is that war isn't black and white, and no nation ever follows every rule. Look at Iraq, where AA/AAA and Scuds and all manner of military equipment was parked up against mosques and hospitals and children's schools. The world isn't a nice place, and sugarcoating that get's us nowhere. -
It's entirely possible you'll run into Maddii on there. I believe at one point he was running the United Kingdom of Sahrani. Unfortunately he modified the RACS BI wiki entry to reflect his personal ORBAT, but he did have a pretty good imagination when it came to filling in gaps and such.
