"I will have made" Does this mean you intend to contract someone to make it, or you're making it yourself? (Either way, damn. Never seen an offer like this on here. Supposing you're legitimate, you get a cookie. and some ice cream. and donuts. lots of donuts.)

The AAF Tank is freaking amazing!
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to shifty_ginosaji's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Bawb misinterpreted InstaGoat's post. InstaGoat was saying that the Kuma is the only truly advanced tank, because it's rivals are an early 2000's vehicle (Merkava) that's being talked about being replaced, and the T-100, which is a 1990's design that was reworked and is a mashup of the T-90MS/Black Eagle. (I think that's what he was saying with the T-100. He certainly wasn't saying the Kuma is based off the T-90 or Black Eagle) -
Any chance of adding more download options? I'm getting terrible speeds off the links provided. Like under 1kb at times.

What Objects would you want to see for Visitor??
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to wedge123's topic in ARMA 3 - TERRAIN - (BUILDER)
Hmmm.... a very good question. Perhaps some actual aircraft hangars, in different variations? Big enough to fit a C-130 or C-17 or similar, perhaps with the tail sticking out like some do in the real world. Uh... One thing I could see getting a lot of use is a set of military barracks. Maybe a commissary (grocery store) or PX (food court/mini mall almost), and a shoppette (convenience store/gas station). Some big warehouses, and maybe some of the vehicles/aircraft from the 22gb of sample models turned into statues on a simple little base, or a mount for the aircraft? -

Where can I get the tools?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to AveryTheKitty's topic in ARMA 3 - BI TOOLS - GENERAL
The ArmA 3 tools (Minus Visitor and *possibly some others?) were released via Steam. The ArmA II tools are well known and definitely not what is being sought. (Any ideas on why Steam won't download the 22GB of the Huge Data Package when you opt in to it?) -
[WIP] USAF Air Asset MOD
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to SGT Fuller's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
"The C-17 Globemaster III passed an important milestone at the Flight Test Center on May 3, 1994. On that day, he Air Force's new jet transport successfully made its first aerial delivery using the low altitude parachute extraction system (LAPES). LAPES demands perfect stability and controllability from the delivery aircraft. The C-17 Combined Test Force at AFFTC carried out the first such test using the first production-category Globemaster III. On that day, the heavy lifter made its pass at 130 knots (about 150 mph) with its wheels just 2 feet above the south lake bed." http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/systems/lapes.htm However, at the beginning of that page it clearly states "The Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System (LAPES) is not currently in use by the US Air Force (USAF) or the US Army." Though if you were setting them up for Vietnam War era stuff it'd work. -

What's the story behind your username and avatar?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to CyclonicTuna's topic in OFFTOPIC
Alas, credit for that one goes to an Aussie living in Arizona, if I remember correctly. 2007 or so. Though it had (to my satisfaction) died a quiet little death for a couple years before you helped resurrect it. I swear, the British Empire is working against my chosen username. IT'S A CONSPIRACY. -
What's the story behind your username and avatar?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to CyclonicTuna's topic in OFFTOPIC
A long long time ago, in a place far away, where the tumbleweeds rolled across the plains in blissful ignorance of the slaughter to come when they reached the fences, I was the best damn OH-6 pilot this side of the Atlantic in Battlefield: Vietnam. Back in the amazing days where your rotors had no physical presence when spinning, and I could scare the living frakking daylights out of pubbers and clanmates (These were the good ol days of [AirCav] Jungle Hell, Hastings Helo Killers, RevR 24/7 Flaming Dart, etc. etc. The glory days of BFV.) by taking my ship down below the trees, flying through any and every gap large enough for me to slide the fuselage through at an angle. I was on a Vietnam War kick for a while, getting my hands on any and every book that told the story of the war from a perspective I hadn't seen before. I'd read We Were Soldiers, Chickenhawk, whole bunch of infantry stories, when I happened upon a book called "Low Level Hell: A Scout Pilot In The Big Red One". Hugh Mills flew an OH-6 and AH-1 in Vietnam, got shot down something like 15-16 times, and eventually got around to documenting some of his experiences in this book. One of his callsigns, used during one of his tours as a loach pilot, was Darkhorse 1-6. I liked it, it's a cavalry sort of callsign which also drew me to it, and after a year or two of rotating out fairly crappy Battlestar Galactica inspired usernames it was just something that stuck. Of course it's also been turned into Darkwhore, Darkpony, and my personal favorite mockery- ShadedPony. I'm unsure where I picked up my avatar, but I think it's a scaled down crop of an artists work depicting Hugh Mills' OH-6 a clanmate sent me some 7-8 years ago or more. http://www.vhpamuseum.org/16thcav/ctroop/ctroop.shtml -

After having several experiences with people using De Espona models, either claiming them as their own, or without knowing they weren't actually freeware, I decided to create a sort of "library" of actual freeware stuff to help people in the community avoid them. (Sorting them by country, then the decade the object/vehicle was created) You may have to register after clicking a link in order to download. Most of them you won't, but several of them, including all from Renderosity, you will. I've done so myself, and haven't encountered any spam e-mails. *Editing daily. Going through sites one at a time, so for a bit all of the links will be from one site* Argentina Australia Belgium France Germany Italy Japan Pakistan Peoples Republic of China Russia/USSR Spain Sweden United Kingdom United States

Real Freeware Models
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to Darkhorse 1-6's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
You misunderstand the nature of this thread. These are freeware 3d models collected in a thread for use by addonmakers. Not addons. I made this thread in an attempt to create a legitimate listing of actual freeware stuff on the internet, because 98% of what's available out there is actually stolen content ripped from games. To make them compatible with A2/OA you'd have to make the entire addon. Configs, all the LODs, probably new textures, etc. In all honesty I'm with the "If you're gonna do it, do it from scratch" crowd but because there was an epidemic of people using "Freeware" models in addons, that weren't actually freeware, this thread was born. (You're getting a stocking full of coal for this necro-post, Linux.) ;) -
Rules Clarification Please! - Are "Terrains" excluded from the contest?
Darkhorse 1-6 replied to bushlurker's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I'm curious about this as well. Me and a friend have had a very very large terrain in the works for a while now, and while it won't be anywhere near good enough in time to enter the competition, if things go well enough I may be able to apply what I'm learning to a smaller terrain for entry, but I'd also noticed the seemingly deliberate exclusion of terrains in the contest. P.S. - Sealife, set aside Bush's avatar for a moment. Set aside what tools he may have. You do realize you're insulting or attacking or *insert term here* one of the most respected terrainmakers in the community, right? Bush has done more for our little niche than most people around here in a long while, *and* he's a nice guy who has given a very large amount of advice to a whole lot of people. You talk shit because the way you see it, he's "the man", or a part of the establishment, or whatever other ridiculous comparison I can't come up with right now that also fits. The thing is, he earned that little avatar. He was a community member before he was a dev, and he's still a community member even though he's a dev. There are a handful of small things from V4 that we've been drooling over for years, true, but BI has slowly been giving us the equivalent. One of the biggest pains in the ass was road creation, and now they've seriously updated that. No more piece-by-piece crap. If Bush says that V4 doesn't offer a whole lot of advantages over V3, whether you respect the man or not at least have enough sense to know that he's been around long enough to know what he's talking about, please. -
Pffffft. Yuri crushed the flag a long time ago. ;) (Though in seriousness, not even the astronauts expect the flag to be there like people think it is. The flag was next to the lander, right? Well, when that sucker ignited and sent them back into orbit it blew the flag over. Nobody ever had the heart to tell that to the American media though.)

I wasn't really around back in the OFP days, I only really got into the series when ArmA 1 came out (I had gotten OFP, but it was in one of the dozen or two dozen boxes our moving company "lost" when my dad rejoined the army after 9/11. Never really got to play it.) and everything I saw then, and everything I heard about the OFP days from the people I met who played/were involved back then, is that Real ArmA only came into being from community involvement. OFP was brilliant, but it might've been a one hit wonder if it wasn't for the community, the addons and the terrains and the missions. Not only did BIS have a good community with good content/mods that drew in more people every day, it had an instant, fair sized, and well stocked talent pool. They've been fishing out of that pool for over a decade now, and if it wasn't for that I highly doubt ArmA would be what we know it as today.

gotta make sure you use the proper "simulation = " inside the config. As PhysX isn't really usable at this point, it'll be ship, not shipx -

I'd imagine it could handle a space race scenario quite well. You have your military forces on the ground, but not too many, and you have to manage the little brushfire and proxy wars both sides are using to distract each other while trying to launch first, and then once you get out there your goal becomes a moonbase or somesuch thing. Or a conflict between two neighboring systems, both of them being human colonies and now bickering over who controls the 3rd, which contains earths rusting corpse.

I'm working on bringing over the C-5 Galaxy that Mukcep brought into A2 recently. The plan is to update it for A3, get flares working on it, see if any major issues pop up in the conversion, and then release the final product, and the source files, to the community. I created this thread for the questions/issues I'm sure I'm about to start running into.
