Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!
S!fkaIaC replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
@Fox&Rock: Any info about dedicated server? Windows only or also a Linux version? -
Thanks Landstalker and Alex. Missed it.

No, math issues in BIS team :D Robo has my favourite gear. He also has my hair.

Military weather forecast: "In the morning some random bullets that could turn in the late afternoon into a serious metal storm.." :D Seriously: In ArmA 1 there are some missions with local fog and rain areas shown at map by markers. Hence I assume we can have "local weather". Still my Q: will it rain also inside house as in ArmA 1?

Ok, the biggest bug we know in advance is that the 3D ingame editor does not work. :D BTW, important for all MP freaks: is the dedicated linux server included? I change my mind and would call this the biggest bug if not included:) -

1st: Thank you for that report RKSL, THAT is exactly the style I would expect to get from the "experts" of the game magazines. You gave me some confidence that we will not have a disaster as we had with ArmA 1. Looking forward to see you on Chernarus . -
Well, you should not take your knowledge from Cinema/TV. And you should not take over the way of writing rifle "riffle" as you obviously copied from some BIS code. :D
-
There are many questionable addons in ArmA, but you still could have fun with. You never played a DM with bicycles, hunting rifles and S&W Colt in it? Or 50+ player Camel fight?

Don't make different version for each Country
S!fkaIaC replied to HOPEnSPIRIT's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
But there is hope, latest after 4 years the world is back to a common version. -
Oki, but then not just bi-plane, take Red Barron´s tri-plane: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fokker_Dr.I According to Wiki Fokker copied a Sopwith. Fokker had less speed, but better turn rate and climb rate.

If props, then please not just one or two, take 12 engines. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_X

And we need weather forecast (maybe like the map). If I know I have to approach a village via open field and heavy rain is forecasted in 1h I would wait for the rain (in SP using time speed) since it lowers the visibility, damping noise and real humans would sit in bunkers. And if I do not have vehicles, but the enemy, moody terrain is more a problem for vehicles then for infantry.
-
Well, yes, but it would be nice to have NO rain in buildings anymore.
-
I voted OFP 1 the better GAME. SP missions and Campain was much better then those in ArmA. As a MP platform without (BIS-made) content ArmA is of course the better choice from pure technical point of view.

In ArmA I prefer Scorpion/Uzi when in buildings. So I guess they do the job, a pistol is no arty :D

*Bang*........*Bang*..... Lets get the AI's ROF sorted out.
S!fkaIaC replied to Muzza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
It is obvious that you deal to long with OFP/ArmA :D A decent inventory management would to the job. You simply declare a truck/APC/box/building as rearm point and AI/AI commander should be able to make use of it. If I am right, the M3Ax CFV is the "ammobox" of the squad, not the troop carrier any more. Extra ammo + AT weapons are stored there. In crCTI it works already quite good, infantry and vehicles going to rearm/repair vehicles. But you can also define a peace of fence as a rearm point. The missing thing IMHO are some definable thresholds so that "ammo low" etc is triggering the right action. -
This is one of the rare cases where I 100% agree with the BIS implementation. You drop your equipment when you are in water, or you die. The real problem is that AI is entering the water at all. And no soldier is going into water without at least an attempt to protect his stuff from water and/or putting some stuff into something that floats. Maybe a new item in the action menu is required: "Inflate pink rubber tire" before you go into the water

Deformable terrain - Do you guys want it?
S!fkaIaC replied to mr.g-c's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
So feature candidate for ArmA 3 release date 2012? -
Compare OFP 1.96 and current ArmA 1, I still thing for SP content made by BIS OFP is leading. If it comes to MP, of course JIP is a huge improvment, but it is not very reliable. And if you compare OFP 1.96 + content ever made for and ArmA 1.16 + all content it is for sure OFP that is winning.

*Bang*........*Bang*..... Lets get the AI's ROF sorted out.
S!fkaIaC replied to Muzza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Whatever the solution is, desired behaviour of AI should be: - If xx% of ammo (per ammo type, each ammo type treated seperately, the first threshold matters) is left over, stop continue attack if no rearm is "near". Seek and call for Ammo in zz metres - Start to retreat if ammo <yy% (YY<XX) - run away if ammo = 0 :D -
Assuming that path definitions to rooftops, balconies, hallways via stairs, elevators etc is somehow solved, it is still an issue how AI should select path and position with the new 3rd dimension. It is Cover vs. overview over the scene. Maybe in defense/hide mode AI should avoid high positions. Dunno.

The 4M was related to what I know is necessary for such a development. Since there is an unkown "more" I wrote "exceed". To calculate the "value", not the project cost, you have to include a part of the development costs all the way from OFP 1.0 up to the build they used to start with ArmA2 development. Just to get a feeling for the value if you would start from the scratch.
-
Counting own resources as almost serious is anyway not a serious budget calculation. Maybe it was one first budget calc loooong time ago, but in 2001 I can not imagine that they still stick to that number. Alone that motion capturing system at that time, if 100% seen as CAPEX, would bite a huge chunk out of that budget. But anyway, wages in CZ are higher now, means much higher expenses for devs. If ArmA 2 engine is an evolution of OFP/ArmA1 also a part of the dev-cost of the previous titles must be calculated into the budget-calc like you buying the old version and start developing on top. Starting from zero would be much more expensive. Just a shoot from the hip, but total cost of ArmA2 will exceed 4M€ IMHO.

Gold Status means nothing for playability and quality. NOTHING. I was eyewitness. And I did not said that I want a demo of an unfinished product. What I mean: If BIS is convinced their product works they can also release a demo at the same time.
-
You can make jokes about it, but many of the "BIS supporter" telling to the people complaining about the buggy ArmA 1 : "you stupid ****, wait until the demo, test it and then buy - YOUR fault, live with it". Now, we want to do it better, but - there is no demo. Kinda nasty, isn't it? So BIS sales strategy is: Out to the market, if sales figures dropping significant after the first week: release the demo; else grab the money and run away?
