  1. Thank you whisper for your value add to this topic. You think it is not dramatic that if you send a large convoy across the island that only half of it arrives very late and even half damaged? That when I give my AI driver the order for an quick escape from a village he starting a 5 minutes forward/backward mess ? What you want to tell me? That the current (old) solution is acceptable in 2009? And I say ArmA II = OFP 1 in this aspect! 8 years later! Cmon!
  2. The generic body animation as we still have it in ArmA II is by all means WRONG, especially if BIS claims that ArmA II / VBS 2 should be mainly infantry simulations. Why? 1.) You have just 3 positions. That was ok in 1985, but not in 2009. To hide/use cover in an efficient way you need much more then 3 positions between standing and laying down-head down. There are animation systems in other games doing this a million times better. The worst thing with this is that all obstacles in ArmA must have the same height to hide perfectly. Pretty much nuts that. 2.) It is not possible to interrupt already started animations. This is hard to make, nevertheless possible. There must be a way to stop a started animation for entering into another animation like fast jump to left/right to save your virtual life. 3.) The animation system of ArmA does not support collision detection of body-attached equipment + usage of that collision point as new centre of rotation. That is why we can not use an obstacle we using for cover as an rest for the weapon. I would expect from an advanced animation system that when I lower my gun (moving mouse down) my body just moves the gun down until the gun is getting contact with the obstacle, and until then, my body is rising its position until the maximum possible height to be able to aim further down with that gun.

    Game physics

I have news for you: Cinema is not reality! Many biker getting killed this way every year. It is as bad as in ArmA 1, which means horrible.
  4. I have the same on my 8800GTX. Same as for ArmA 1. Triangles only appear if you look into a certain direction. Sometimes ALT-TAB away from game and back solves it for a moment, but sooner or later ArmA 2 goes CTD.
  5. No, its Petergames. What did you expect?
  6. It basically says "lots of old known bugs + Campain unplayable as in ArmA 1 but the SP missions seem to be ok". If there are that many bugs, what the hell did the Morphicon/Community testers all day long?
  7. I remember such a Hovercraft for OFP, this plus a LHD would be nice for utilization of the shore of Chernarus. To make missions simulating the conflict around Somalia would require the conversion of (South-)Sahrani. Question is now: Would it be possible to enter a LHD addon with an LCAC without bouncing around until both sinking? I remember community attempts to make it possible to enter Mi26/CH-53 via ramp with vehicles. That strange collision detection and the fact that wheels were sinking into the ramp/fuselage made then the vehicle bouncing around until it was destroyed. Is this under control now in ArmA 2? Or would it be necessary to make the LHD a static object as the carrier? Edit: I forgot, same applies when loading the LCAC with vehicles. Edit2: Well, and the support of many turrets is necessary Nice vids: http://www.futurefirepower.com/military-hovercraft-lcac http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery/30199-really-big-things-lcac-hovercraft-video.htm http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=782_1194767282 One manufacturer: http://www.griffonhovercraft.com/military_attack.html Good old FAS: http://www.fas.org/programs/ssp/man/uswpns/navy/landingcraft/lcac.html And it seems half of the modding work is done: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/221928
  8. Let's take your bed and pillow and sleep in the media store? To play ArmA 2 inside the shop on computers for sale? :D Nice marketing idea, would consider it if I would be such a shop owner: ArmA 2 LAN party in the night 28/29 May, battlefield streamed via virtual ingame-cam to the internet.
  9. well, in this case I hope BIS is doing it to make sure expansions are wide spread and following a common design for that region
  10. Beautiful, that Chernarus, isn't it? And BIS can expand in future releases the land mass towards North and West. ArmA 2.16 might cover complete EurAsia :D
  11. Good that they evaluate ArmA 2 as it comes out of the box. If someone would make a splatter mod with lots of flying giblets for evaluation.....
  12. On Topic: Discussing the needed quality on the Leo example: - IMHO such a "crappy" Leo is from the "jacket" sufficient for me, as long as all functions working correctly. Of course an absolute authentic painting is welcome. - releasing betas is nice since it employs the community as testers which might offload the modteam while ironing out the last hidden bug. - big modteams are welcome since you can build your mission with a beta addonpack assuming that the unit name stays the same while the addon improves over the time. Much less need to update the mission files with each "newer" or "better" addon of the same type. - also a plus is that the configs are usually balanced at least inside the addon pack
  13. http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/bwmod/img/news/7/leopard2a6.jpg @metalchris: hearing you which day after release we have that amazing MBT in ArmA 2
  14. Problem is that even ACE is not big enough. Well, ACE adapted their targets to the available resources and a "more" or "faster" is always welcome. The problem in such large teams is always to make "strong personalities" working together. Pretty often laughable differences causing the leave of one or the other member. Something which would be unusual if you would meet and talk face to face. Next is that ACE has to protect somehow their assets. If every new community modder would get immediate access to the full content of the repository without a kind of "approval", a lot of ACE work would pop up elsewhere under different name. To find the balance between a team interests and an easy entrance for new modders ... I do not know how to achive, but it is necessary. The way beginners are treated sometimes is not made to grow the amount of modders.
  15. Sick and kju in old ACE stories? Who cares? ArmA 2 is (almost) out, time to rename ACE and OAC into......hmmmm what? Seeing it from the "customer" point of view, I am interested in large mod teams to overcome gaps and changes in the HR and for reasons I44_John is mentioning. So the output of DKM, MAPFACT, OCRS, WGL/ACE, BWmod is the quantity and quality I like. Very seldom one-man teams had a similar output. But if there is more then one guy in the team, politics starting and the outcome is visible in the notifications about changes in the teams. So it is understandable that some experts prefer to work alone. Best way of working is sitting in the same room and/or having a regular beer face to face together.

Arma 2 helicopter wishlist for modder's

Well, first they do it for themself, then for the community, and not for guys "wanting" this way :D
  17. Of course, nevertheless quality is not rubbish. Textures are not the only quality criteria, functionality as close to reality as it could get is rather important for me. I was wondering in OFP why so many modders did exactly the same over and over again, the same wheel was many times invented. The amount of shared/reused work has to grow, else it would be like for ArmA I : The best mods are released a few days before ArmA 2 release.
  18. I would rather prefer a fully free customizable keybindings plus a resizeable window to display the actual valid keybindings for the current role.

Arma 2 helicopter wishlist for modder's

Max Power is right or the title of the thread is wrong. I see here another useless wish-list for complete addons. The only thing, that needed is an overhauled flight model and a new collision / damage model to avoid that a copter is rebouncing from a tree in one piece. Once this is in place and some talent modders the copter will flood the addon download sections. Edit: Ahh, ok, wingtip, you mixed modder and mission maker. Please rename thread title from "Arma 2 helicopter wishlist for modder's" to "Arma 2 helicopter wishlist for mission maker" Now, then my wishlist: The Mi28 as already mentioned, OF COURSE the Mi26 for fast deployment of 2 BMDs, basically tell the OFP mod team "DKM" to unite again. And again, don?t be worry: http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/files/Operation_Flashpoint/Addons/Aircraft;2176 http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/file/AH64D_Apache_Longbow;37035 http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/file/DKM_Mi28;47506 http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/file/MI26_Halo;35284 All I wish was existing for OFP, so why not again for ArmA 2?
  20. You can not show the real differences to ordinary shooter in a 30s TV clip.

    New tactics required?

I assume that the "individual AI" :D is still stupid like a toaster (maybe now like an electronic toaster), the only thing that made me sweat in ArmA 1 were coordinated attacks by a bunch of AI which share the knowledge of my position. DAC is your friend, hopefully also in ArmA 2.
  22. :D  Morphi wants our best, our cash, they do not care if it is buggy or not as long as it does not lower their share.

    Keep Weapon's After Swimming

Ha! I can also keep my Howitzer while swimming! Gents! All those claiming that you can cross a 100m river with vest, ammo and rifle are invited to make a swim contest. With weapons.
