Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
maxter replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yes. I think the point was to remove the crosshair completely, which will never happen. I think we all can agree that being able to turn your crosshair off regardless of what settings the server uses would only be positive though. If that message hasn't come across by now, it won't, cause the thread is now just full of arguments and insults anyway. -
There are indeed Marines equipped with M4's IRL, with m203 compined with aimpoint, eotech, ACOG and more (most pics I've seen are FR and MEU, I guess). I'd wait for a weapons addon though (believe me, there will be M4/M16 packs released till you'll want to puke all over them). I'd rather see BIS working out the bugs and other issues before adding new kit, especially since there's already a m203/reddot (well, eotech) version available. This is not even low priority IMO.

I played Arma1 with FPS around 20-30, it felt smooth most of the time and I had just the mouse reaction I wanted. I can't understand why it can't be the same in Arma2. Also, people are still experiencing mouse lag at around 60 FPS, which is ridiculous, while some others claim it runs fine at 30-40. So, it can't solely be a performance issue, otherwise everyone with a certain FPS (or atleast system specs/settings) would get it, but in this case this varies greatly. Also, this is atleast the third thread about this, people should learn to search.

When you doubleclick on the map so the marker appears and you're able to "name it", you can use the arrow keys (up/down) to toggle between different shapes, and shift+arrows (or was it ctrl?) to change colour.

That's kinda what this whole thread is about so yeah. :)

Here's a video showing the problem, credits to FlunkyMonkey Now I'd really like to see the people saying "it's a feature" or "this isnt CS you just sux" confirm that they are experiencing this same delay. Cause I seriously doubt it. And I seriously doubt they'd just shut up and accept it as "realism" if they did. Also, again, there's already a thread for this in troubleshooting. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74085&page=26

There is already a thread about this in the troubleshooting section which is linked at least two times in here already. The problem is that even though this only happens to some people, it happens to people with all different kinds of systems, OS, mouses, FPS, etc, so it can't be purely clientside, so to speak. Though some say they get a small decrease in lag when boosting their FPS (by lowering settings or whatever), it's still noticable, and having to get 100+ FPS to be able to aim properly isn't really how it's supposed to be. If it's indeed caused by the game's mouse acc, which seems most likely, an option to turn it off would be sufficient. I hope the engine allows this to be implemented without much work.

Alternate crouch & prone position (only!) for danger/stealth
maxter replied to MQ-9 Reaper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I see. Yeah, it could definitely use some work. I remember the AI being pretty smart when it comes to keeping low most of the time as long as they were set to "aware", but then again, that might have been partly thanks to ACE (and even then it wasn't exactly perfect). -
Consider those that can't play multiplayer
maxter replied to BKnight3's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
People would still find stuff to complain about if the game had been in development for 20 years. Just saying. -
Go get 'em.

Have you tried redownloading?

Alternate crouch & prone position (only!) for danger/stealth
maxter replied to MQ-9 Reaper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
If it's anything like A1 you should be able to set their precise stance with the combat mode command, or tell them to "stay low" for that matter. -
Good job in repeatedly missing the fucking point. It's got nothing to do with whether you're in sights mode or not, and I'm sure you are fortunate enough to not experience the issue at hand. So please, shut up, you're not doing anything for anyone.

viewdistance and other dissapointments
maxter replied to arma2disapointed's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Are you seriously comparing being a passenger in an IFV with being a loader in a MBT? I hope I just misunderstood your point. -
white circles around civs. red around opfor
maxter replied to twisted's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You should be able to turn it off in the difficulty settings. But yes it's overdone and immersion killing. -
Not everyone seems to experience it, but a lot of people do, so it definitely isn't purely hardware related or such. While I have my own opinions about insulting people or starting a post with a huge list of (irrelevant) clans and tournaments, I can kinda understand the frustration when people who obviously doesn't even experience the issue/"feature" at hand are very quick to judge and throw various "this isn't a twitch game stop whining" arguments all around them as soon as someone even mentions another game series in the same post as an A2 issue. As funkee already mentioned, there's already a thread about it, and it's pretty clear that some people simply don't experience this issue (my bet is that none of the guys who instantly gets all "a2 is great and flawfree this problem is in ur head u sux" does). http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74085&page=23 Like I said, I've played OFP, I've played ArmA, I understand that the way you move etc is different from classic FPS's, and I personally loved it in A1, especially in ACE. That is NOT the issue that people are having with A2, and the fact that it's obvious that some people have it and some don't (based on posts and videos) should be enough to rule out the possibility that it's a "feature". As it is now, it's really hard to quickly get your target in the sights (regardless of if you're aiming down the sights or not), and equally hard to make minor adjustments to the aim and what not, much more so than IRL. If you don't experience that, post your specs, maybe even record a gameplay video to help those who do, or shut the hell up. It's your choice, but there's no need to be an armchair nazi ignorantly judging other people with other issues than yourself.

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
maxter replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yes they do. And don't give me the whole "find a server that doesn't use it" or "host your own server", seriously, it's ridiculous that you can't turn them off when playing on a majority of the server. Just make the option clientside and let those of us who wants to enjoy a game with minimum HUD do so. This might not be what the thread starter was after, but I personally realise crosshairs won't be permanently removed from the game. My wish is just that it should be fully optional. -
I would say using an ACOG as opposed to aimpoint/ironsights gives you worse SA and it's also generally harder to use in close quarters. So yeah, there are pros and cons with the different optics available. As I said, if there are no cons then everyone will obviously run around with bayonets attached all the times which greatly reduces the charm of it all, IMO. If there is a reason, however small, to atleast think twice before attaching your bayonet it would be an even greater addition to the gameplay.

Agreed. A separate VON volume slider would make a huge difference. Being able to silence the damn auto reports while still hearing players perfectly fine, yes please.

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
maxter replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I'd like to see the crosshairs slightly less accurate. But most of all, I'd like to be able to turn my own crosshairs off, regardless of what settings the server is using. Being forced to have them on is ridiculous, and you shouldn't have to search forever for a server with higher difficulty settings just to get rid of them. This should be true for all the settings for that matter. The server's settings should only restrict, not enforce, IMO. -
I experience some kind of mouse lag in A2 demo as well, I thought it was because of my shitty system. I do get decent FPS though(around 28 in the benchmark I think, which is more than I usually had in A1) so I don't know. I didn't experience this in A1 and I can't say I think it adds anything to the game except frustration. Being encumbered by heavy equipment is one thing, experiencing something that to a big degree reminds of lag is another. And no, I'm no twitcher, I just found the aiming in A1 to be much smoother, aiming down the sights or not.

What are the disadvantages of having a bayonet attached, and can it be modelled in the game in some way? Though I like the idea it kinda turns me off to add optional equipment with no downsides, since, well, everyone will use it (or in this case, attach it) because there's no reason not to. If there was a reason to think twice before attaching it. it would increase the immersion further IMO. For example, how are the collision shapes in A2? I remember in A1 where a MP5 had the same box as a SVD, for example, but if that's been fixed then maybe the bayonet could atleast be made to actually increase the length of the weapon (like it should), making it slightly more "bulky"? That would atleast be one step in the right direction.

Aren't tags controlled by the difficulty settings in A2?
