Take On Helicopters Beta Patch 88791
bobocz replied to DnA's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - BETA PATCH TESTING
Small problem, medium helicopter is not possible control when my start state is 'flying', collective is too sensitive and I quickly end up in spin. When I start heli on the ground everything is OK. Small and heavy heli is not affected I think. I really enjoy new FM of medium helicopter, for me it is much better then 1.03 (I "hate" 1.03 :p ). -------- added: Interesting bug, if I started with heavy heli in the air (state 'flying'), I can't land, helicopter fall through the ground or roof, it doesn't have physics. In case of start on the ground then landing is OK. Light heli is not affected, can land in both cases. -
We know that fist terrain in TOH will be around Seattle. So where is located second terrain? Bis told us that is in south asia. According to one definition south asia countrys are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, Iran and Sri Lanka. Another definition mention only states Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Does anyone recognise this terrain? (it's captured from bonus 1 video) Where is this location?

How to display more info under player profile?
bobocz replied to Tias's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Probably it is same like in Arma here is biki page about it http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/squad.xml -
I agree. We don't have all information, maybe they use VBS2 temporary. But project was not smooth as seems to meant to be, I will quote or it was plan to use VBS2 meanwhile. I know that is not as simple. It is all only speculation. I use what I found on internet and it is really confusing. I hope that I'm not harm anybody. We will see.
-
So far it looks like, but press have old information, or they know more (I don't know). They've been hyped by graphic, cool videos, but apparently army is looking for something different. Edit: I mean that you will not see any DSTS with cryengine ;).
-
Why confused? They nailed it perfectly. US Army Dismounted Soldier Training System is the greatest game you’ll never play. Maybe it is more difficult, we don't have all information, perhaps it ends up differently, but if it is like it looks like. It is really hilarious. :D
-
DM see my previous posts about DSTS, 1,2 and also SAbre4809's post, it is last press releases from December. I'm almost lost here. description from DM's video : and comment there made by bisimmedia (2 days ago). So BiSim confirm that they are using VBS2. There are so many names and contradicting information. Now DSTS is made by Quantum3D, or Intelligent Decisions hired them, or something else. It is weird now. Total chaos (for me). ------------ Now this is starting to be interesting. Another CryEngine3 "success"? uwhKWiDftKI (I was looking for this video because I saw it couple months ago and now I found it :)) press releases from BAE (20 Sep 2011) http://www.baesystems.com/Newsroom/NewsReleases/autoGen_11182093455.html press releases from KBR from last month, they talked about Cryengine3. (these contracts starts to fascinate me, who is contracting with whom :), many people set up with contracts, it looks very efficient) http://www.kbr.com/Newsroom/Press-Releases/2011/11/22/KBR-to-Develop-and-Deliver-Virtual-Training-Program-for-Royal-Australian-Navys-Landing-Helicopter-Dock-Ship/ and surprisingly this ship from video is very similar to BiSim version from their facebook, also australian ship and they also simulate all decks. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.253033651416678.65723.232473470139363&type=1 What's going on here. Competitors fight? Some problem with Cryengine3? Simulation business must be really tough. I'm not saying that they are using VBS2 now. I just sort all information.
-
I understand that they compete in this area, but I'm curious, what Intelligent Decisions (not Crytec company) want to use for project Dismount soldier (they won contract in spring for 57 million dollars). Current dismount soldier description (with interesting videos): http://www.intelligent.net/idweb/company/dismountedsoldier.html you can see they are using VBS2. but older article http://www.innovationnewsdaily.com/army-virtual-reality-training-games-2037/, they talked about CryEngine3. extract: So what they want to use? VBS2 or CryEngine3, or both? Maybe now Arma 2 engine (RV3) fulfil requirements for virtual reality?
-
This video is not connected with RealiTime Immersive, isn't it? Description says that it is Unity 3D engine and it is developed by eecs.ucf.edu/isuelab/ I think it is not quite clear. It is confused who is RealTime Imersive. And I have some others questions? RealTime immersive http://www.rt-immersive.com/ is Crytec's sister company and they are trying expand use of its Crynegine? from their page, their customers: but dismount soldier project is made by different company. Intelligent Decisions http://www.idsi.com/ This is their press releases from spring http://www.intelligent.net/idweb/company/pressview.cfm?view=108 at that time they used Cryengine for dismount soldier. but this is what Karel Mořický posted on his twitter: fHkBuxm6lXg now they are using VBS2, so are they scrap Cryengine3? or they are developing their simulation on both platform? Anyone have better or other information? Maybe I'm completely wrong about this. I'm just curious how exactly it is.
-
Probably it is more my mistake, small misunderstanding, that happen when I made quick rough translation and PurePassion corrected and improved my translation ;). the Lord says: Other thing that I like and what I missed from Flashpoint and which is also what we step by step have been improving during development of Arma 2 and Arrowhead, is an artillery, or an other general support artillery, which we expanded further in Arma 3. ..... .. he says something like this, this is also not exact translation, its really long sentence and hopefully it is more clear now :).

Take On Helicopters - User video thread
bobocz replied to zoog's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
4EtSJ4jRPM0 No fancy editing, but video showing how TKOH looks like during sunrise or sunset. This lighting adds a lot of detail to terrain, terrain normal mapping is shown (I guess and hopefully video compression doesn't ruined it) and also texture became more vivid. I really like playing with time or season, every time you get a little different result. Bit too long, but it was hard to discard some footage :). -
Thanks nightsta1ker and others, exactly what you said in list these items are easily recognizable for me, mainly descent rate. Now I don't fight with heli like before, it is more calm, like in your real videos. I can look down and still can control heli and also cargo transporting is more easier, I don't need use autohover for attaching/detaching (mostly :p). So you make it more realistic, but also more easy ;), but I like it. Great work , I'm looking forward to further improvement.

I don't know where it is because you have Steam version, I have Sprocket version and my manual is in root directory \Bohemia Interactive\Take On Helicopters\TKOH_Manual.pdf. So I uploaded manual for you, here you are http://www.mediafire.com/?ciwzkm868mrlyvf

Very disappointing FPS on Sandy Bridge
bobocz replied to Axelb9's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I tested why he had so low fps. You can see that even when I down-clocked my gfx card to 600MHz and resolution is 1080p, it mostly doesn't limit me. (I reedited my text, so maybe now it is more clear what/why I tested it :o :p). test scene 2 shows some limit (1080p, 7000m/5500m) -
Very disappointing FPS on Sandy Bridge
bobocz replied to Axelb9's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I made tests what is limiting in Take On Helicopters when you are using SandyBridge CPU overclocked to 4,5 Ghz. I was wondering why Axelb9 have so bad result, I've lived in idea that TKOH/Arma engine is in most situation CPU limited, but Axelb9 says opposite, that his graphic card limit him. We had some discussions via PM and I was curious what so decreases his performance. He is using Nvidia GTX285, that is only different between our rigs and also he has Windows XP. I saw his settings and for me there was nothing that shows me that he is using too high settings, maybe only object distance visibility. This settings gives him 14-15 fps. I made test with Scene 1, which is mostly covered with buildings. Scene 2 is mostly covered with trees. These are two locations where I had lowest fps (I'm sure there are even more demanding locations) Here is table of theoretical performance comparison of my Nvidia 560Ti(880Mhz) and Axelb9's GFX285, I also included my down-clocked 560Ti to 600Mhz and 405Mhz, I simulated weaker GPU. Theoretically these card doesn't looks so different (real tests shows 560Ti is 30-50% faster), so I think that his card doesn't limit him. Hopefully all data are right. So to confirm my idea I made tests with 10/10km, 20/20km visibility/object view distance. These settings are absolutely not playable for me. I exaggerated it on purpose to get my PC on the knee (here I'm limited with everything I guess). When I'm turning my helicopter huge amount of data have to be loaded and even SSD disk doesn't help me. Normally I use combination 7km/5.5km (you can see my TKOH's settings in my signature). I hoover 100m above terrain and measure FPS with Fraps. Fps test Scene 1 Fps test Scene 2 I know that it was only static test and I was not flying, but I think there are some patterns in results and I can say that in most situation my graphic card doesn't limit me (I know there are situation where my cards limit me ,e.g. when I see many particle effect, or some combination of needle leafs trees give me for second worse fps (overdraw I think). Until I down-clocked 560Ti to 405Mhz my fps is quite consistent (of course with normal distance view), during Scene 2 test (1080p 7000m/5500m) when I set my GFX to 600MHz I see lower fps (these trees probably steal my fps). So conclusion is that I don't think that with his settings he should get so low fps. Even with very down-clocked card I get better fps  (notes: I use different settings) and even with much longer view distance to 10km I get better fps?? Perhaps it can be so because he has only Windows XP, or Nvidia doesn't optimize driver anymore, or architecture of 560Ti is so different and TKOH can benefit it, or maybe it is something wrong with his PC ?? I made this test if what Axelb9 says is in generally valid and also what if I for example buy better graphic card, if it is worth for me and what can help you increase performance. Maybe I made some mistake and also I don't know how exactly engine works, but these results are interesting. Honestly after these tests I'm not quite sure what limits him. I still think that TKOH engine is mostly CPU limited. -

What is your graphic card, have you got last driver? Try lower resolution so that you can see if you are gpu limited, or your cpu is overheating and throttling. Do you have sandybridge/westmere cpu(i5/i7) or older like core duo/quad cpu? I have same cpu (not sure what you really have?) and with same settings fps rarely goes under 24. I have a little bit lower object view distance, but your settings give me only -1 fps in some situation, not -10 fps. -
repacking PBO files with EliteNess
bobocz replied to nightsta1ker's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
If you only edit flight model files, you probably don't need make pbo, see this yesterdays Armored_Sheep's posts, you can only put files to root folder. Regarding where pbo should be there is this wiki page. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/modfolders Unfortunately, I can't help you with pbo packaging. -

See below my signature, there is my rig and link to my settings in TKOH. Don't expect that you can set all settings to max, I think that such PC doesn't exist yet ;), still the game looks beautifully. My fps is all time +24fps (occasionally for second not, damned needle-leaved trees :)), average fps is around 40fps. Good test is hoovering near 'three towers', this is one of the most demanding place in Seattle. There you should set your minimal desired fps, everywhere else it should be better. Disable PIP detail (if you don't need it), it is fps killer and of course try not overdo object view distance. Also post process effects can be quite demanding when is set to high/very high. Why I'm explaining you how you should set your game, when we have nice RoyaltyinExile's Take On Video Settings thread :p. -
You really need more practice, maybe even week is not enough for expert settings ;). I get used to difficulty flight model, I don't want to BIS make it too easy. Make it realistic is OK, but not too easy :p. But I'm not pilot, I don't want comment FM, I only enjoy present one (except descend rate ;))

I recommend you to set it to default. Here is what RoyaltyinExile said in video settings thread: edit: I'm late ;) -
Lucky Rafikst from Poland publish on his youtube channel first videos from early TKOH's beta version. Here are some his videos. (there are five videos so far) QjWb_XJIEkg zdJ9rbz9Gr8 E6G2cJE3g-Q Some pictures and his impression on www.sim-outhouse.com (English) More pictures and his impression on www.il2forum.xt.pl (Polish) So far what I understand (and I don't understand much :)) he like the game. If he read this, he could joint to BI forum and share his opinion. Thanks Rafikst/YoYo, great videos (good music :)) and all pictures and information.

Potentially flame war post! ;) Beware of new AMD Bulldozer processor. Here are Arma II tests from Pctuning and AMD-8150 is worse then Phenom II x6 1100T. Stock CPU Overclocked CPU All tests part 1. part 2. (Czech) So I think if TKOH share same engine also will have same result. New Bulldozer seems to have less IPC then Phenom. Bulldozer maybe shine in some multi-thread applications and can be good for other games, but I think TKOH deserve better cpu. TKOH/Arma loves high IPC core and today Intel i5/i7 is better in this area. I'm not writing this because I hate or don't like AMD (I'm former owner of three AMD cpu), but I only give my honest advice to anybody to not be later surprised that his new bought AMD "sucks" in TKOH. Of course you may not agree on this with me :). -
md5 is used to check data integrity, probably installation check it before installing the game. You can check all files manually with it in e.g. Total Commander or with this program.

YoYo, you mean this TKOH mission. ;)

Good News Everyone, Take On Helicopters Pre-Order Beta! Great news, really :o, but I don't have new rig yet and also I wanted hard copy. Hard decision making and it will be hard to wait whole month for final game, probably I will pre-order game ;).
