    Rappel from Helicopter

I know reading Black Hawk Down they used fast rope for insertion, it's a shame it isn't implemented in this game. Would have been an amazing feature...

    Patch 1.03 Satisfaction Survey

Voted good because the Campaign is actually more playable. Noticed no improvements in the country-side and noticed some improvements in the town. Wish I voted bad because how horrible the throttle fix was... Actually yeah definitely a bad, I keep redoing Amphibious Assault campaign mission and Razor Team just decided to not move anywhere on the train tracks so I'm stuck there now :( didn't happen in 1.02

    Problem with flight controls

By speed based, your input does not control necessarily the throttle or brake setting but rather your desired speed. So basically holding down Q accelerates you until you hit the speed/altitude you want and you let go and the game will try to hold you at that speed/altitude even while doing hard turns and such by adjusting throttle accordingly. Same goes for Z but the opposite effect of course. The new "fix" was supposed to let you have manual control of the throttle setting however they only let you map the throttle to half of an axis and the brake to the other half of the axis, which makes no sense at all in the realm of real flight controls of any aircraft. They obviously don't really know what is going on when it comes to flying vehicles (they know their stuff when it comes to ground though!) They should get some help from members of the community who seems to be much smarter than me (and would be happy to do so) in this area so they can get their crap worked out on this aircraft issue.

    Patience is a virtue

I play OFP/ARMA/ARMA2 because it is the only game like it out there. I doubt OFPDR will give them a run for the money, but I hope they do so it kicks them in the butt to actually do a decent job and make major overhauls and improvements in this engine. Like another poster said this game series is something like 8 years old, and basically it is really the same game more or less. You would think they would have made huge strides however it is basically a cosmetic overhaul of OFP, I recently played it again to compare and the only difference is pretty graphics. For 10 years of development that is really quite pathetic and I always keep hoping for more. Like I said I hope another company comes around and beats them at their game so they have some competition to get them motivated to stop doing such an amateurish job and getting things done (did you read the patch notes on 1.03 release, looks like nobody looked over it at all!?) 8 years should be patient enough to work out some of the major problems existent since OFP....sadly not though Until then ARMA2 is all I've got.

    Analogue Throttle

This was a really crappy fix, and the one I was most exited for since I don't think any BIS game has had analog throttle, just speed controlled throttle. However they missed the mark big time. F-35 experience: After flying at speed, it is just about impossible to slow down to hover speed without doing "Auto-Hover On" which you never had to do before when converting from convention to STOVL flight. It's really stupid and silly converting now...I know. Due to the fact that Throttle is only truly mapped to the top-half of your throttle axis requires that very small throttle control movement = large throttle change. It's really silly, in STOVL mode a light movement either causes enough thrust to mantain altitude from either falling from the sky or sky rocketing upward. It's really ridiculous, they should map the WHOLE throttle axis to throttle...not just one half. Horrible jerry-rigged fix. MV-22: Same as F-35 but even worse when it comes to throttle movement you either drop from the sky or hover...no medium at all. A-10 and C-130: This is where the throttle works like it should (althought only half the throttle!) But it's nice having full control over the engine now in fixed wing conventional aircraft in forward flight. Generally, Brake and Throttle should be able to be controlled independently (on separate axis) For example, you should be able to have full afterburning throttle but have full brakes as well. These analog schemes they came up with makes me think they don't really have anyone who has any basic knowledge of aircraft. You should also have some kind of feedback given back to the user on what their throttle position is. Can BIS even get this small thing done right the first time? Apparently not, which is why I can see why there has been such little improvement (except in graphics) from OFP. Helicopter experience: This is even worse, they didn't even fix the problem, which makes you remap when you fly helicopters to work with the old scheme. This is absolutely the worst thing to do. You shouldn't have included it if you didn't fix it for both helos and fixed wing alike. This is just dissapointing and whoever did this fix failed on their contribution towards the patch.
  10. Yeah the patch notes were as buggy as ARMA2 :) Multiple double listings...real professional! Have about thirty games on STEAM when they patch, they just patch it, not redownload the whole thing again. (5% after two hours) It's really ridiculous and I don't think it is STEAM's fault when this is the ONLY game we've seen do this... both of these points are not good signs for this coming patch I'm about to install, and I was all exited too, but now I'm worried what new bugs this "patch" is going to introduce to players.
  11. ...yeah which leaves me to believe it's not STEAM's fault since I have dozens of games on there and they just patch, not download the whole thing over again. :( :(
  12. This is really fustrating... 1) Patch is downloading 25kb/s I get 800kbs-1mbs usually 2) After 45min it is only 1% done, is it downloading the whole game!? Shoulda gotten the retail if so

    Analogue Throttle

Wait are you telling me that the analog throttle works for fixed wing but not helicopters!? I was so excited about this fix, but that's just plain shoddy fixing if this is the case, either way I'll be back on either whining or praising the devs for this fix depending on the accuracy of that statement.

    1.03 Performance

Scared now, have GTX260 with latest drivers, patch downloading now
  16. So you are upset that Steam autodownloaded the patch for you..you don't make a bit of sense crying about that??? Haven't gotten to play yet, but from reading the patch notes, I'm very excited about trying it out and it is downloading on Steam now...should have left it running during work!

Any news of the upcoming patch?

Made me think of this from the funny people over at Blizzard: Soon: Copyright 2004-2009 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. All rights reserved. "Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" shall make no contract or warranty between Blizzard Entertainment and the end user. "Soon" will arrive some day, Blizzard does guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as Blizzard will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon." Very Soon Another common term implemented by Blizzard often misleading players into excitement for future content. "Very Soon" is guaranteed to arrive between now and the end of time with a higher chance of arriving on the "now" half of the time table. Although this means closer to now than "soon" there is no guarantee that you will live long enough to see the content finally release. Any news of the upcoming patch?

It is completely unfair to compare the patch release time of Black Shark to ARMA2. If you've played Black Shark, you'll notice (for me anyways) it is the most COMPLETE simulation free of major bugs I've ever seen on release day, and I'm not the only one who thinks that. Go to that forum and see if you find 5% of the threads that are on here whining about bug this and bug that. 4 months is reasonable for a product that was already stable to begin with as opposed to another product that wasn't quite ready to be released and needs to be fixed ASAP.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Like I said, is it used for embedded critical software? No it's still used as a game in respects, nothing "critical" about VBS2, so my point still stands. Just for simple situations training. I have to use it admit, I haven't used it, But I fear what it is like when seeing things like driving not improved in 8 years from OFP. I wonder what the Marines say when they try driving a Hummer or Tank around in VBS2, I doubt it drives like it should or they would have put equivalent fixes into ARMA2 right!? I'm sure it is meant more as a visualization and rehearsal tool more than actual simulation purposes...can't say so for sure.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Windows 7 will save Microsoft's repuation, I absolutely love the OS and it's associated performance increases with games...including ARMA2 Glad you got it worked out. This game is a one of a kind I can say that for sure. It is working as intended? Let's just say that BIS should not get into the industry of embedded/critical software systems that run flight and weapons hardware :) Like all other BIS games it feels like features are chopped together to make a one of a kind game, but nothing works together like it should....

Hay bales need to be destructable

I see your point :) Just you tube'd a video of a M-41 tank plowing down a large tree with no problem...a bale of hay should be no problem!
  22. cjsoques

Hay bales need to be destructable

I mean, I know a tank would eventually win against a bale of hay, but they aren't light and fluffy either. I think they can end up being between 0.5 to 1.5 tons depending on the hay and the moisture in it, and the size of the bale. I don't think a tank would just flow right through what is essentially a 1.5 ton wall that is higher than it's wheel plane to allow it to climb over. I think we should get the army R&D to perform an experiment for us to finalize this issue

    Demo performance versus Retail/Final?

I'm with you totally on the first two paragraphs. Many people on here are very sheepish and will defend all of ARMA2's bugs to the death. While others are in the gray with this game. I LOVE the game...I mean love the game. There is nothing like it and I don't hesitate to point out the features that are just amazing. However, the game just feels very unprofessional, clunky, and old. While the terrain and models look beautiful, the effects and physics are the worst in the world. I love this game but it makes me so mad when I see the things they spent so much time and on the incredibly important things they totally didn't care about and it makes no sense. They have this incredible potential and so many things get left out while other things get unnecessary attention. Hence I love the game...yet I hate many of the design choices they spent to use their valuable time on :(

    Aircraft crash physics.

Haha, you should have seen the crashes of planes and helicopters in all BIS games pre-ARMA2. It was borderline comical because the plane would just stop on a dime and instanly convert into a rusty one-piece wreckage. I actually have to say it is a beauty to see a shot down plane have chutes come out and rush to the ground a ball of beautiful fire and it scrapes across the ground, this is one of the few areas that they really outdid themselves. Now, everyone other aspect of vehicle physics feels like a late 90's game.

    Warfare in SP

I feel really dumb right now, since the campaign is fubar for me, I've been using the editor for hours on end. Thanks for letting us know about the Superpowers thing, I honestly had no idea it was there. I'm having a ton of fun, although I get drastic reduction in performance probably because of all the stuff going on and have to lower all my graphics to low, when in the editor making small scale battles I run everything on high. It is a ton of fun but slow going once you get started. Other than that the "Superpowers" is incredible. Again, they should have screwed the campaign and worked on this as the full feature single player aspect of the game with more detail and features, in addition to multiplayer, which goes hand in hand with Superpowers. Oh well, this is fun, with the editor and Superpowers, why did they even feel the need to make a Campaign, I doubt I'll go to it because of the worries I'll invest time and just get stuck in a bug like all the other BIS Campaigns. Anyways, thanks again and it's a ton of fun doing this game mode, wish I found it sooner!
