Flight Sim'ers: Lock On 2.0 Announced
cjsoques replied to -Total-'s topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Yeah I understand those problems due to the complexities they have added in. I have both Falcon4:AF, Falcon4 (with a ton of addons), and FreeFalcon5 all installed. AF for the stable campaign, Falcon4 for reminiscing the good old days, and FreeFalcon5 for all the great goodies and the single TE missions. I believe they are working very hard on stabilizing the campaigns. I remember reading a couple weeks ago the latest patch made 2 of the campaigns foolproof, and even more dynamic than original Falcon4...they do admit problems with the tons of other campaigns they have thrown in there. ---------- Post added at 02:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:06 PM ---------- You haven't been looking in the right places then if you think that -

This is just incredible. I love the DCS guys. This is one step closer to the Virtual Battlefield concept that Janes and Microprose dreamed of. ---------- Post added at 08:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 PM ---------- FYI, there is FreeFalcon5 out. Which is Falcon4 on steroids. Multiple aircraft supported out of the box. Multiple cockpits. Upgraded AI. More realistic weapons systems. Carrier operations...and tons more. Check it out sometime. Oh and updated graphics and effects. Higher fidelity models also. For me FreeFalcon5 works find on Vista and XP for me but crashes on Windows 7 but it my just be my setup. -
Does anyone else feel the washed out color of the game makes it extremely hard to discern friend from foe...or even identify objects at all. Everything looks the same color hue of grey/brown Also when vehicles get more than 10m from me they turn extremely blocky and have worse models than Half-Life 1 but up close they are rather nice. What gives?

I'm loving this game and I can't wait to get home and play some MP...some things that are getting to me though: -No Leaning, It's a sick fact that COD1 had leaning and multiple fire modes (burst/singleshot) that is taken out of this game. But no leaning is really killing me. I hate that I have to very smartly round the corners. And these corners are camper love fests. I wish I had a lean so I can poke out and check it out. I use flashbangs to round major corners but that only allows me two corners of safety. Other than that, it is just hope and pray -Campers, I'm just mad because they get the annoying cheap shot off. I actually don't mind this that much though because I realize this slows the game down. Now that people are learning the maps they are learning the best hiding places. Props to them for taking me down...no matter how, it is just frustrating. The fact is though, I get more kills by moving around the map in a smart manner than those idiots sitting in a dark corners hoping to get 8x kill streak but are in last place....camping is annoying but acceptable. In the end i"m having so much fun with this game...plus I found out yesterday how to mute everyone at once instead of one-by-one...a God send :)

That's awesome, I'd love to come over and chill with you guys and play these games face to face with someone. It sounds like your not short on cash and have been able to upgrade frequently (can I take the older ones off your hands!?). Why don't you get 3 xbox360s as well so that you have no issues when playing CODMW2 since you are getting the same thing with the PC. FYI, CODMW2 LAN was a known feature to be taken out before launch. Sorry about your troubles IW really screwed over players like you.
-
I gotcha, I understand the four copies thing. From your post I thought you had bought four copies of MW2. Like I said, it sounds like a MW2 specific problem and not the fault of Steam. I'd go to the Steam forums for CODMW2 to investigate if similar problems are coming up for people. Sorry for being slightly off-topic but I'm very curious. Why do you have 4 PCs in LAN like that? Do you have 3 other local friends that visit to play frequently? Shouldn't they contribute their money towards it too? You're rather lucky if that is the case as I don't know anyone near here who owns any of the OFP/ARMA series or plays any games more serious than COD.
-
I feel for ya having problems on Steam. None of the games I own have given me such issue. I think the first problem you are dealing with is that you got CODMW2 on there. It sounds more like a IW problem and not a Steam problem. So place the blame accordingly. Second problem, if you've kept up with this thread and knew the PC issues with this game, why did you get 4 copies!? Just wondering :) ...BTW, looking at the xbox/IW forums, it funny watching the little ones complain that CODMW2 gameplayed is slowed down and the maps too complex, I rather enjoy it. I only wish they removed the auto-aim, increased the recoil, and increased the amount of ammo carried. This would have allowed for longer more tactical firefights and engagements that last longer than 0.5-2sec at the most. Suppression and range factors are non-existent in the game and they would have added to the immersion and gameplay.

So it's my fault that I tend to buy digital versions of a PC game that lower costs to the publisher since they don't have to make physical copies? So it's my fault that the game I legitimately paid for is being pirated by the thousands...if not the millions. And it's my fault that some games are just more fun on the Console due to their simplicity. When it comes down to it, it is IW/Activisions greedy fault for even marketing this as a PC game in the first place when it obviously has nothing geared for the PC market and if you bought it as such you are the sucker they were looking for. On the console, it's a great game. Back to PC, if it is a game I love it's worth having both mediums. Example, I have digital and hard copy of ARMA2 and ARMA1. You're first premise that because I have bought games via digital download is a whole bucket of stupid. You seem to be too superior to take the time to back up. ---------- Post added at 06:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:22 PM ---------- I've never had a problem using the offline feature in Steam. I've never had a problem with Steam playing single player games when my internet is down. The only issue with Steam I've had out of the dozens of games I have on there are some old games not working with Win7 (should have done my own research). And some games redownloading the whole thing for a patch (example, Arma 2's first patch. I love the autoupdating and the easy of redownloading all my games overnight in the even that I have killed my PC somehow and have to reformat or some such.
-
I'd agree with that, I can get great half-off deals on Steam, I haven't bought a PC game at a store in years. The last physical game disc I have is DCS Black Shark since you can't get it on steam and that was ordered online. If it isn't on Steam and if it isn't on sale, I'm probably not getting it for the PC
-
Yeah that just pisses me off thorough that they stated that as an "exclusive PC feature" I really don't know what the hell is wrong with the PC market anymore. On the console side, finished the Campaign and it was okay. Parts of it were tons of fun, particularly the US capital missions. Most of the others felt like I was just in a movie that I was allowed to be involved in and my participation really didn't mean anything. I really love the multiplayer (after muting the racist and biggoted 12 year olds swearing constantly of course). I consider I broke even considering the amount of multiplayer I'll be doing. The singleplayer was just an addon "movie"
-
Yeah I got it to play with friends mostly, late last night I discovered the spec ops mode that is quite awesome especially the sniping/sneaking around one. On your own is okay but with two people is sick...one guy goes around to one side, another on the opposite side of the road as a patrol pass synchronized knifing/sniping it's pure greatness really. I really hate how the singleplayer game treats you. It's good fun and plenty points of immersion and if there can be a single thing that ARMA2 can take from COD is some of the radio calls, most are scripted but some of them are rather clever...you use a laser marker to mark a house for a stryker to attack and it goes "Targetting infantry in grey house 3 o'clock" or if you mark a small car it goes "Targetting small green car at my 2 o'clock" it rather clever as it must have names attached to each major object you can target in that vicinity. Did COD4 have the "FOLLOW" tag over the lead member of the squad?? I hate hate that, I know who to follow, the one I'm taking orders from no need for a big annoying dot with FOLLOW on his head really kills it. Sames goes for OBJECTIVE HERE.... I mean you can give me a general direction and I'll find it myself thanks, but I guess single player has to cater to a 10 year old that their parents let them buy it. It shows just how Dynamic ARMA2 is with the single player..if only Chenarus didn't kill my PC and it wasn't so dynamic that you can break the campaign every 5 minutes I'd love to finish it! Matchmaking on the 360 is pretty much the same as COD4 except better in that if a host leaves the game pauses find a new host and syncs so that the round can continue which is really nice...on the 360 side of MP no complaints...if you're on the PC you're pretty much screwed I've heard. Is there a zombie mode like COD5 going to be coming for MW2?
-
Hahaha yeah it may be a little nuts but it's hard not to admit the MP isn't fun. I took a quick peek on the xbox forums for this game and there are people complaining that the maps are too big and the gameplay too slow...while I can barely keep up and the maps are small enough to enable ~15 seconds of walking at the most before contact
-
I just played the first few missions of the singeplayer. I have to say it is quite fun and I actually love the story so far. But these things just bother me: -I do have to admit at times it is overchaotic with no order -I didn't like being babied through the missions and told exactly where to go -I am spoiled by ARMA2 and BF2 that has actual maps Oh well, back to multiplayer
-
I bit the bullet and got the game today for multiple reasons... 1) I had a gift card from a few months back I hadn't used yet 2) I need a game to play on the 360 when my wife takes over the PC 3) I played the multiplayer at a friend's place and it was actually a ton of fun, similar to COD4 in many ways, but it did have variation to it. I haven't gotten to see it yet in HD, nor play singleplayer. But the impression I got from my multiplayer session justified getting the 360 version to play when I can't be on the PC playing ARMA2 :) When it comes to the 360 I actually enjoy the easy-going matchmaking and all that stuff. I had both COD4 for PC and 360 and loved the variation of mods/gamemodes and large player servers COD4 offered for the PC, but also enjoyed quickly grouping up with friends and jumping in a game on the 360. I can't wait to start playing this on the 360, but I hope for all that is holy that no one gets this game for the PC. What made COD4 on the PC worth getting for me is all gone in MW2. If you have friends that have a 360, odds are they all are playing this game, and it's good fun to play together and great fun to play when you just want to relax for a bit. When I want to turn my brain on, I then go to ARMA2. So what I'm saying is...if you don't have a 360 don't get it, if you don't have a giftcard that either pays for the game or makes it substantially discounted, don't get it. If you didn't like COD4, don't get it! ---------- Post added at 05:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 PM ---------- Not usually a big Onion fan, but that was quite enjoyable, thanks for the link :)

F-117A NightHawk - Alpha Released
cjsoques replied to Fortran's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This is truly one quality addon, thanks for all of your hard work. This is off-topic and generic, but I have yet to find out how to utilize the laser-pointer with laser-guided munitions in singleplayer in the editor. Do I just play a unit with laser-pointer and have an AI F-117 and paint a target and the F-117 will bomb that target? OR do I have to have that F-117 in the same group as me or is there any other conditions that must be met to make this happen? Thanks all! -
what can i buy with 400 dollars?
cjsoques replied to solidsnake2384's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
400 McChickens (tax not included) I couldn't resist :) -
Pretty much what I expected, thanks for the first-hand review... Might get it on 360 after Christmas once the price drops a little to the sheer fact that it is the only game that all my friends have in common. Anyone who dropped $60US for the PC version of this game is pretty much shooting themselves in the foot and telling the market that it is worth $60...when it really isn't. Then all future PC games will be $60 just like on consoles. When you consider that ARMA2 was $50 and I've pretty much barely taped what it is capable of and considering that fact that they just recently had ARMA2 for 50% off, BIS is really selling this for a bargain. Sorry to bring ARMA2 into this but I would easily throw down $50-$100 a year if BIS kicked up their ARMA2 product because it is chock full of goodness but also chock full of bugs too. If more money will solve that I'm all for it. I've only personally purchased 2 games this year (not counting gifts). Due to the economy me, like most gamers, have to think very hard and do their research before throwing down $40-$60 per game that could be used to pay bills. In essence, I will probably get the game...eventually. I hope the price increase doesn't stick for the PC market, and I am quickly realizing how much of a bargain ARMA2 is.
-
I have the same worries and I hope someone else tries to enter this arena eventually. Maybe it is my American way of thinking but I loved the idea that CM was coming out with a product that might compete with Arma2, it is possible it was the reason that kicked them in the butt to make Arrowhead...I could be wrong. The game at least got the community excited about another milsim. Sad thing is, about 1% of what they said they would deliver was actually delivered. Like I said before, I wanted it to be good...it just wasn't Competition creates innovation, which creates a better product typically. Granted BIS makes an amazing game that I play almost every day but lets all admit it, it could be much better, there is just nothing else that competes and comes close. And if someone wants to try, I fully support it and hope they succeed and even if they fail. I at least benefit from a better product from the competing group (BIS) in reaction to the competition.

From best buy sponsored chat between fans and IW.... Also hard-coded limit of 9vs9. If OFPDR wasn't bad enough of a slap in the face, IW pulls this. And those two statements are only a couple of the issues brought up. No modding, no dedicated servers, pretty much no nothing, oh and for $10 more than the typical PC game to match the price of console games...less more more. No wonder the gaming industry is crapping out. So far the Battlefield series and ARMA are my last PC FPS hope.

Way to not answer the question at hand whatsoever... When I was younger I had these cool cross-sections books that were detailed illustrations that were exploded views of machines, buildings, and anything. I had one for aircraft and one for military vehicles and it generally laid out the basic pieces that all aircraft/vehicles share and descriptions of what they do. I think they are called the "Cross-sections" series but I could be wrong...I couldn't find the ones I have: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Incredible+Cross-Sections&x=0&y=0 I hope you have luck but I am a very visual person and it and when I was a kid it was a great way to learn how things are put together and all that stuff. However, like the quoted poster, you will find that groups/organizations will call things by different terms that mean the same thing, so it is hard to have a universal set of terms to describe the pieces of something sometimes.

I've played some of the user made missions, and they add some fun to the game. Multiplayer dead and showing no signs of coming back to life. This game will be an afterthought long before Arrowhead comes out. I'm quickly back to Arma 2 despite all it's problems it outshines DR by a long shot, I'm just now learning how to do basic scripting templates to tow artillery carry hummers in C-130 and such. I slowly learn more about this game and new amazing addons come out everyday. Exited about the next patch too...which also never seems to be coming out for DR. ARMA2 may not work in all the ways I want it to, and I've have had my share of complaints of these basic features ARMA2 lacks (won't list them here). But I can say one thing, BIS has never lied of features or promised aspects of the game that never existed. If anything, they understate the power of this game and only the patient ever see what it can do. Thanks BIS and I'll be right there pre-ordering Arrowhead, and I hope OFPDR players learn about this game from the mistakes of CM. I did want OFPDR to be good...it just isn't :( ....so true :) :)
-
You sure read alot from my small post there, why get so defensive? I can see why you get in fights, I just hope you never get in a fight you can't handle or someone who ends up resorting to more than hand-to-hand. You seem extremely disillusioned especially coming on here asking for advice than to your local kick boxing / karate club. And all people who work in cubicles are douchebags? I just don't have anything to say but repeat my last statement and will stop there. People never cease to amaze me...for you, that goes double. No more street fights you hear! :bounce3:
-
...people never cease to amaze me. I still can't figure out if this guy is serious. I applaud the mature responses and I'll stop here before I reduce the kindness level of this thread :)

Who else thinks there should be training servers setup? Project Reality for BF2 had them and it was immensely helpful to understand the mechanics of multiplayer play and how to work together as a team before being thrown into a battle. It was just a sandbox map with really low respawn times to let you try out and train on everything. It was extremely fun and educational.

VFTCAS - Terrain Collision Avoidance System
cjsoques replied to VictorFarbau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
FYI...this stuff is really used (although the component goes by a different name) and have saved pilots lives in both helos and aircraft, particularly the AV8. Thanks for this addon!
