SP Mission: Morning Assault (my first)
cartier90 replied to critanda's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Critanda, you did this in a few days !!! - Im stuggling with the editor since OFP ;) - seriously love this mission, more than the BIS ones....lots of combat, simple goal - cant finish, too hard ....How can I open this mission up in the editor and see how you did it. -
Does anyone know if the in game ballistics are accurate ? Or do all rifles / guns have same muzzles speed ? Does actual 'gravity' play a role, or do the rounds follow a simple 'arc' to the ground as opposed to what they would do IRL. I occasionally notice when firing at a unit, a very short delay in their reaction, at least in the animation. Anyone else noticed this ? As for lead required at different speeds, has any one with actual military experience noticed accuracy's , or other wise in BIS's model.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2

I heard slows down FPS significantly, this so ? -
Actually it doesnt go blurry. Saccadic Masking stops this.....check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccadic_masking When moving your eye from one side to the other, you are effectively blind, the brain does this on purpose.

Is this game right for me? Honest question.

Download the demo.... http://www.arma2.com/arma-2-demo_en.html As for the editor, If you have made maps then you are more au fait with comps with me, you should love it. -
I suspect it will be difficult to aim with the fidelity required for long distance shooting. I could be wrong.

Perhaps slightly off topic. Anyone noticed the difference in sound when observing your unit firing a weapon from different angles ?. Using alt at 85 degree the gunshot sounds normal, same as from POV, but from 90 degrees (side on ) to face on the 'crack' of the round is heard. Anyone with experience of this ?

ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
cartier90 replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Course, tbh I find it very annoying that generally I can run the game well in the editor but the later missions crawl. Its the degree of rants that I suppose some cant stand. History has taught us that BIS support their games and do work on issues so its just a matter of time till things are fixed. None of the games you mention are as complex as ARMA or deal with a terrain as large ( and dense ) . LOMAC was shambolic at release as well ! . I suppose I am slightly blinded by enjoyment of other parts of the game, not too mention Im not keen on several aspects of the campaigns mission structure. There you go - try and take from it what you can. -

I wouldn't get confused with 'fanboys' of console games and enthusiastic supporters of ARMA2 - their two different animals. The former being younger and as you say unable to back up claims, the latter at least referring to aspects that keep them 'occupied' until the campaign is sorted. A game such as this is , to use a well worn phrase, is a 'sandbox' game that cant be compared to FIFA or other games that are very constrained in what one can do in game. Its quite possible to avoid many of the faults in the campaign by just playing around with the editor and insta missions. Of course there are bugs there too, just fewer. Your reference to Crysis or COD is an interesting one, look at the demographics of the players, the expected volumes to be sold and the pedigree of those franchises. With anyone from a 8- to the proverbial 80 year old expected to play them, they need to work off the bat, the competition in those markets is fierce and those more 'casual' gamers will jump ship and play competitors games if need be. OFP/R ARMA had a more mature, serious gamer to cater for, one whom was used to patches and improvements - dare I say it expected it. BIS can get away with it because the campaign is just one part of the game, one that isnt really intrinsic to enjoying it. -
New players need a detailed manual!

I found it annoying that I had no 'live' targets to shoot at. Putting myself againt OPFOR would mean I was shot quickly. Make yourself a civ unit, put a weapons ammo box next tro you and several dozen units at various distance from you and you can test out grenades, machine guns etc without them returning fire. Good practice. -

I dont play MP and am perfectly happy with just the editor and instant missions - AI driving will be fixed. Seems you have a poor PC and not happy with the performance your getting. -
ah well, thats dementia for ya ;) - jk !

I dont know about anyone else but the only type of game I can play is free roaming sandbox ones. Im not a massive gamer but GTA4 has kept me occupied for a while - ARMA was the one element missing. Someone needs to incorporate the 2 along with FSX - someone can do it ! ..oh and add orbiter on as well :) http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

Yeah go easy nova, were not all au fait with computers.... Tho a 1600 core processor would ROCK ! ;)

Dslyecxi's ArmA2 Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures Guide Published
cartier90 replied to dslyecxi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I agree, there are section of the guide that are too specific to their clan and too be honest, slightly obtuse..A guide such as this needs to be more general - large sections of it are great but the vast majority of people who read it simply are not going to play as serious as that. I still am bowled over by the work you did Dslyescxi... -

Ha, good point - I got it for 24.99 from game..for £ per hour spent gaming, it'll end up costing about 1 or 2 p a hour. Thats value ! The hell with faults, theyll be fixed, performance increased - not that I need it too much. -

Perhaps ARMA3 could encorporate Eurphoria type dynamic animations ( GTA4 ) . They are amazing. Particularly grabbing out for handles or rails when falling down stairs. Very seamless as well. Shooting a cop running laterally across you in the foot will mean he stumbles and tries to regain balance. When mowing through 10-15 peds there is a slight delay or jolt in the game, at least on consoles - on my PC there isnt. Come to think of it, in terms of the argument that there is too much 'going on' to incorporate dynamic animation, no more than 15 - 20 units would usually be in your FOV , similar - in fact, less than times square in GTA4. GTA4 is a pioneer and R* have megabucks so it stands to reason that the tech will filter down eventually.

FC2 was a horrible, horrible game, at least on the PS3, the so call 'free roaming' aspect of the game was a joke. To many hills that you couldnt climb. Sod that !
