    Help In Afghanistan

Hi guys, First and foremost, hello to you all. Here is my problem in a nutshell. I am currently based in afghanistan and have the following laptop (issued to me, not my choice): HP Probook - 6560b - Intel Core i3-2310M ,1 x 4GB DDR3 1333MHz ,320GB 7200rpm - this has the Intel HD Graphics intergrated card Now being a flashpoint fanatic in days gone by I though that I would chance buying Arma2 just to see if I could play it even on the crappiest of settings. Some Arma2 is better than no Arma2! I have played around and got it chugging along so to speak and was wondering if any of you guys can hit me with any major tips for improving framerate / quality / general performance.? I also seem to be having some king of graphical glitch which is making certain parts of the terrain go "mesh like" and flashing white in appearance. I also have some crazy bug which sends parachutes in all directions!! I realise that A) my computer is cack and B) that this is a very general question indeed. Unfortunately I do not have regular internet access and thus thought I would take this opportunity to see if I could get help as I am not able to spend hours searching the forums, much to my dismay. Please help me out as I am desperate to play the best game in history of the world ;) Kind regards, Bigsouth1981

    Will my computer play AA?

Gentleman I am a british squaddie who basically had some of the greatest gaming moments with OPF (it is more realistic than you realise!!! and although you would think that I have probably had enough of everything army,....well i havent. May AA consume my every waking hour along with beer, guitars and Rage Against The Machine. I cant be hassled with all the techno speak of the hardware sites as I have lost touch with whats hot and whats not, plus they get annoyed with us simpletons so can anyone tell me if my PC (listed below) will play AA? Kindest Regards from England, Andy My System.... Release....

Well said Marshall, I loved OPF with all my heart and Its my fav game of all time, but in all honesty the more I think about it (and I know this will upset people) but Armed Assault is a waste of time. BI should sack the idea and put their effort into the next generation game. Lets face it, OPF didnt have the best graphics when it was released, and i cant help feeling that 4 years down the line, the little changes that will be made to AA wont hold any weight at all. They should concentrate on the next gen game and be able to release it earlier. BI is self admittedly only a small developer, it should put its time and effort making OPF2 the best military simulator of all time. If anyone can do it, these guys can.

    Animations?

Do you think armed assault will feature any new charicter animations?, such as death throes?, does anyone know if VBS implemented anything like this? Just thought id add something new to talk about, although this will probably get closed like everything else.
  5. bigsouth1981

    Death Animations

Do you think that AA will have the same old 4 or five death animations as OFP?, or do you think they will add new ones?

    These forums?

Why is it that almost every topic that is going to start a decent educated debate gets locked by the mods?. This is extremley prevelant in the Armed assault forum where almost anything of interest that could spark a decent debate (god forbid) is locked. Thats why there is hardly any activity there. I dont suppose there was much point in posting this as it will most probably be locked or moved, although it is an off topic question correctly posted in a off topic forum. I hope the mods have the decency to let this remain open when I ask "Does anyone else think that the mods are a touch over zealous??"

    These forums?

personally I thought that this is probably one of the only forums around where that question would honestly be answered because of the fact that the average OFP fan is more mature and has more brain cells that your "n00b kILLeR" counterstrike playing morons that seem to infiltrate other forums, thats why I posted it anyhow.............

Who are the BestArmy in the World?

Right, this topic usually gets a bit heated, so my question is Who has the best army in the world?. Now I dont mind what ever your answer is but please back it up with a logical explanation of some description. For example dont just put "Fucking USA Rulez WOO HOO", tell me why you think so. Take things into consideration such as, equipment, combat experience, versitility, best man for man ratio, sheer toughness etc etc. Lets Roll, Andy

What are you going to do?

Im going to tell my girlfriend the good news "Im not coming to see you for a month"...........should go down like a lead balloon, but I simply dont care, needs must.

Do You want PunkBuster in Armed Assault?

I vote "HELL NO" My reasons for this are very similar to the great point Kegetys made earlier in this thread about how more people will set out to crack PB if its implemented. I have never played OFP in multiplayer ( I know.......I deserve a thrashing! despite it being my favourite game of all time, although someone mentioned earlier how thay have only ever seen one or two cheats playing online. I think this is due to the fact that due to its realism, thus slower pace, OFP doesnt appeal to the majority of the "Bunnyhopping Counterstrike" dicks, who exploit the games they play in the first place. Americas Army is riddled with cheating bastards, IMO its possibly the most frustrating game ever made (on par with counterstrike). This will never happen to OFP. You only have to come on this forum for an example of the kind of smart, intelligent, friendly, mature and COOL friends and foes you will be playing against. Roll on Armed Assault. Just one more thing, I was trying to convey to a collegue ( another Soldier of course) just how groundbreaking OFP was (and still is to a certain degree). I used to sit for hours just fucking around on the editor, practising bombing runs on groups of motionless civillians,........er..nice. Andy

    The Sniper

Hi to all on here, Im in the British Army and a close friend of mine (and another who is ex royal marine) was a sniper instructor at Brecon in Wales (teaching Sniper Instructors !!. He has explained many methods of camoflage, spotting skils etc etc etc, and to revert back to a post made earlier on this thread, I think it would be a good option to be able to place you ghille smock on and off as an option in the command menu. For example: When in position (Imagine someone lay in the prone position, in cover looking directly down the barrel "head on" if you will) Now roughly their profile is roughly a triangle shape, made from the top of the head to the elbows. Thats why a lot of snipers dont wear full ghille suits just a hooded smock to break up the shape of their outline. If you could do this in game it would be easier to blend in with the terrain when moving from cover to open country if you know what I mean. Howdy to you all by the way, Andy

    Any Soldiers in here??

Ok mods, I know that this is a little off topic but since you lock a lot of the threads that could generate posts for hours (Im not having a dig by the way), I should imagine that very soon we will run out of things to talk about other than things we would like to see in the game (which will most likley be seen as "suggestions" thus the thread will be locked) That said, Id like to know if there are any other Army lads on here ?, where are you from?, who are you currently serving with, or any ex squaddies who have a tale to tell? Just thought it would liven the place up, thats all Ps: If you are going to suggest I move my thread to an off topic catagory, Id like you to know that I asked it in here because you all seem like a good bunch of "Flashmen" Regards.......Andy

    Any Soldiers in here??

I dont neccessarily mean tales of arms and legs blown off, sorry if you dont like talking about it, or choose not to for that matter. Dont get me wrong, I was on Op Telic 2 and saw enough shit to last me a lifetime but since im still serving, Ive no doubt Ill have the dubious pleasure of seeing things like that again. If you dont talk about it thats fine.

    1970 vs 2010

Oh here we go, here comes the anti war brigade......... Anyhow back to the subject, I think its great that they are not going to use a Vietnam setting, its all been done before and its stale and boring. Using a semi fictional conflict set in 2010 gives everyone from the BIS, to the players (ie: us) to the modders a huge spectrum to play with. Just thnk of all the technology we have now and in the near future that could be incorperated via mods and modding, its fucking mind boggling. Also, it gives great opportunity to include countries such as russia who are now allies (well in a fashion). For example it'd be a strange twist of fate to play as a russian soldier, on the allies side (uk and usa) fighting a scenario in say Chechnya, whilst the Uk and Usa are coming in from the west. All hypothetical of course but its worth a think about it.

    Any Soldiers in here??

Nice to see we have a lot of fellow soldiers on here. So has anyone got any war stories then? who's seen action?, who has witnessed how awesome (whether right or wrong, justified or unjustified) war can be?, lets share a few tales come on, Andy

    System Specs

Hi lads, here we go anyhow,.........I understand that we are not to make suggestions regarding what we want in AA / OPF 2, and I dont know if this question has been asked or not. But having read loads, and participated in a few, of the other threads, you guys on here seem cool so here goes. What would you anticipate the AA specs to be?? I know they havent been released yet, but I have posted this purely as a discussion topic, so please dont lock this mods!!!!!!!! Regards..Andy

    Well Done BI

I would just like to express my gratitude to Bohemia Interactive for basically being one of the most honest, integral, not to mention harworking, developers on the games market today. This is a company who really has its customers and massive fanbase, hearts in mind. I am really looking forward to the release of AA (It may be the single most, greatest favour the Xbox has ever done for PC gamers). To say that I am looking forward to AA ( albeit somepeople are labelling it as a OPF 1.5) is a total understatement. I cannot wait for the next installment of one of the greatest games of all times, and definatley the greatest combat simulation ever. As an Infantryman in real life I can honestly vouch that OPF (as buggy as it was etc etc etc) is the most realistic, authentic combat simulator ever released (apart from Vbs1 obviously). Its still the only game that still makes me duck as a T-72 round slams into the hillside that your advancing across, or the butterflies that I get in my stomach when I hear the sickening "squeak squeak squeak" of approching enemy armour. It captures the moment brilliantly, it really does. Regards...................Andy

    Melee Weapons?

Good post Kooky, Your right it would be great knowing that no matter how slim the chance, you still have some sort of a last resort. In Iraq we had all sorts, fighting knives, kubotans, knuckle dusters. Personally I have a Fairburn and Sykes Fighting knife. Now im not saying that you should be able to pick up a housebrick and whack someone skull in with it (although its not a bad idea....lol), or be able to throw ninja stars etc etc But some thing sensible to the point of being realistic. One thing I must mention. All you dudes on here are cool, there is never any arguing, flaming, just good old war talk. It makes a nice change. Rock on............... Andy

    Melee Weapons?

I think it would be a great idea to implement a bayonet, and or fighting knife into AA. As an Infantryman in real life, id love to see some ultra realism regarding these weapons. In real life you are totally in a world of shit if you have to "fix" bayonets, unless you are in the final stages of clearing a position. Thats why the other day I suggested it would be a good idea to introduce a short throw into the game, ie: so that you could "post" a grenade for example through the firing slot of a bunker or through a window etc etc etc... Like I said the bayonet Is usually a last resort, and Im glad that a lot of you on here recognise that. People wouldnt be able to do the crappy counterstrike "spin around in a circle, slashing away" thing because of the fact that flashpoint accuratley represents modern day combat to a good level, with ballistics and all. Besides, just think how close you would have to actually be!!!, you can sucessfully engage targets at around 400m with small arms, so it would be ultra special to achieve a melee kill. Being able to smash someone across the head with your rifle butt would do nicely too.

    realism

As an Infantry man in real life, I was gobsmacked the first time I played OPF. Its the most authentic combat sim ever, despite all its bugs/issues etc etc.... Its still the only game that still makes me duck as a T-72 round slams into the hillside that your advancing across, or the butterflies that I get in my stomach when I hear the sickening "squeak squeak squeak" of approching enemy armour. It captures the moment brilliantly, it really does. So for me realism is a must, I even love the small things like being able to map read / navigate, should you want it so realistic of course. 2006 cannot come soon enough!!!

Yeah your right, when the patches for AA are released it'll be like, Armed assault patch v1.00 etc etc

    Well Done BI

Here here, well said. I cant wait for all the modders to start taking advantage of the new added content, it should keep us in OPF combat, or armed assault should I say, for some time to come. I cant wait mmmaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!!
