  1. Chris Death go away you aren't helping by being smug here, even if you are right. I'm interested in a fix for the issue, not how testing business software is easier than games.
  2. A vote implies there is a choice here. If you want to play ArmA online and with less bugs, then you must have the patch, if it will work. Here's how it is for me, 1.08 doesn't work for me. It installs fine, it just doesn't launch after it installs. There's no choice to install it or not -- yes install it! It just won't work if you are one of the unlucky. If it won't work, you'll need to revert to 1.06 somehow. All my other games are working fine and even ArmA: 1.06 is working fine. Thus, it's most certainly a problem with the 1.08 patch not my system.
  3. Many people are reporting that the new 1.08 patch does not work. Specifically when launching the game, nothing happens except a busy hourglass pointer, and then the DVD/CD drive spins up, and then nothing happens after that. We don't even get the check boxes and certainly no splash screen. But 1.06 DID launch and work for us. Well at least 1.06 worked and still works for me anyway. BIS where are you? Have you left the galaxy to greener pastures? Do you remember your paying customers are beep out of luck until you provide a fix?

    Patch 1.08 doesn't boot thread

Hi Heliosjet. Thank you for starting this thread. Yes I have the same exact symptom. ArmA:CO will not start for me nor do I get any error message, but it does spin up the DVD disc after the mouse cursor shows an hourglass for a few seconds. After that arma.exe disappears from the task list in task manager. I have the US 1.06 DVD version. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game twice to no avail. I tried the SecuROM fix posted that suggested removing some registry entries at HKLM/SYSTEM/MountedDevices but that didn't work. Granted though, I didn't delete every last key because I can't have my Z: E: and other partitions moved by Windows to the default. Apparently that fix won't help if there are no duplicates and I have no duplicates in that registry key. I also tried downloading two different versions of the US patch, that didn't work. SecuROM does *not* like Daemon Tools. I had this nice utility installed, but uninstalled it in hopes of fixing this show stopper issue, to no avail. Still I can't launch ArmA to get even a splash screen or even the check boxes to appear. Right now I can't play ArmA 1.08 and 1.06 works as well as 1.06 works (1.06 has many known issues and bugs). I feel like BIS is ignoring these forums and that we may not see an emergency patch to fix this and will have to wait until the next full patch which could be one to two months. Have anyone seen any response from BIS on this issue? Do they care? Are we left to fend and troubleshoot for ourselves? I'm using WinXP SP2 patched up to a couple months ago, AMD4200+X2, nVidia 8800 GTS320 with 158.22 drivers, a DVD-R/RW drive, 3GB of pc3200 RAM, SB Audigy 2 platinum, AVG-Free antivirus, Kerio personal firewall. Nothing is over clocked on my machine. I've been a PC gamer for over twenty years and I've never had a problem with a game like I do with this one. For other games there are reasonable fixes somewhere out there on the Internet. This time, for this game and patch there is nothing, nada, zilch, zero to actually fix the issue. There have been some helpful people here in the forums but no real fix. Help us BIS! BIS don't forget there is an I inbetween the B and the S!
  5. Try it, sure, but the 1.08 patch won't even let me load the game now. 1.06 was perfect and fine. No help from BIS on this issue at all so far. Many users are saying the game won't load in the troubleshooting thread. Be warned. You can, of course, uninstall the game and reinstall to you previous version of course.

Thanks Dwarden! I tried that resolution but it did not work. I deleted all the registry entires except for my hard drives which I can't have re-assigned to the default letters - that would totally hose my windows install that has been working for about two years now. That's just crazy for SecuROM and BIS to expect people to go to such lengths to get the game working. Yeah I had dmon tools installed but I uninstalled it and that still hasn't fixed the game from not even loading to a boot screen. I feel very much let down and abandoned by BIS at this point.

imustkill I love that pic!! Maybe we need to erect a billboard across the street from SecuROM and BIS so they can see it without denying it! Yeah.. I'm bought the game and I've always had mixed feelings but this patch put me over the edge. This game has had moments of pure bliss interrupted by more moments of total letdown. I just now found an ArmA folder in My Documents.. I'll try deleting that. *SHRUG*

That would be nice. An announcement acknowledging the issues they are working on would be nice too. As far as I know, they have been on a long vacation for the past five days (the borked patch is dated June 6th) and aren't returning any time soon.

Thank you imustkill ! I do not have that KB917422 installed however I'm downloading the suggested KB924867 and going to install it to see if it fixes the issue.

Thank you Ronin =ASP=. Yes my sentiments exactly. Okay at this point I'm guessing, but I've not seen anyone report this issue using an Intel processor. You using AMD or Intel? I'm on AMD4200+X2. I have the dual core fix patch applied. I also have Microsoft's April 2007 DirectX files applied (not drivers, but the DirectX install). Haven't installed the June2007 DX files yet.

Yeah no doubt. The date on the patch file is June 6th, so they had six days to test the patch. Doesn't look like it was properly tested. I do question the competence of the BI testers. The public betas were better than this it seems.

What version drivers do you suggest? 158.22 official or 158.45 beta? I'm using 158.22 but the game doesn't even start, so no CTD here.

International patch and German DVD here too, erm, why should that cause an issue ? Edit: And, as posted earlier, the Securom issue. Yes I've noticed that my DVD drive spins up the disc and that's when arma.exe terminates. Some kind of message as to the reason for failure would be appreciated.
