    JTD Flies ArmA3 version

Great work DMarkwick as per usual! Installing and I'll just be off to shoot some guys underwater... ;) Nice touch adding the underwater blood. Definitely something that felt off about the vanilla version.

    More Accessible Terrain Creator

I think any arguments against having a more accessible map creation tool due to there being 'too many crap maps' as a result, are insanely short-sighted. Sure there would be idiots, but most mod sites aren't going to upload Dick Island 3.2 so you aren't even going to have to sort through them. Second and most importantly there are probably a ton of highly talented people being left out of the map creation field in Arma just due to the insanely high skill level required and the convoluted nature of map creation. At this point I swear that I would honestly buy a lite version of VBEdit if they would release one for sub 500 bucks. It's just criminal that a studio which prides itself on having a mod friendly game, hasn't started to invest more heavily in modder friendly tools. Goodwill can't keep the hard core of map makers going forever, at some point most will get sick of working with poor tools. That said, if a better tool is in the works, I'll take it all back.
  3. Camo looks great on the units! It will also be nice to get some more NATO units in using the M4. :) Seems appropriate to have some Greek Armed Forces modded in! :D
  4. Nice work with the new sample textures! AND the bug fix, AND the vehicles!!! I'd say replace the old tex with the new, but hell, it's your mod! :)
  5. This is about 50 kinds of awesome. Since my first try of the new engine in A3 I've been insanely keen to revisit some of the content from A2 and OA! I then keep having visions of being able to use the version of Cherno from the DayZ standalone... ;) Great work!!!!
  6. I do think it would be kind of cool if a non-fatal hit to body armour could trigger a chance of a ragdoll collapse without the victim dying. That guy in the video who survived did seem to lose his footing when hit. I'm not for a second endorsing some kind of flying backwards hollywood BS, but it would be cool if a hit could make someone collapse then just get back up again, if just to simulate a bit of that 'oh FUCK... wait... I'm ok' type thing. :) And the same should DEFINITELY apply to any serious wounding shot also obviously. The whole 'get hit in the leg and don't even fall down' thing is a bit odd.
  7. Been having a stupidly good time with this mod, thanks Gnat! vengeance1, I know from a bit of testing that the floatplane is sensitive to the wave conditions, what's your weather set to?

The guns you miss (until they get modded back in)

AKM / AKMS. I thought about this a lot, because there were a LOT of guns I loved in OA. But the AKM. Without hesitation. :)

Updated Alpha won't "bring the rain"

Hmmm. I noticed this as well when I was playing this morning. I was wondering if it was just me, guess not.

    midrange terrain texture replacement

I can definitely add my experience to those who are experiencing nil discernable impact on framerates from this. I honestly can't see any difference in performance. It just looks about 50 billion times better.

    midrange terrain texture replacement

Every time I look the latest awesome combination of efforts that this thread and the minds behind it have produced, I nearly lose my shit! I DIDN'T KNOW IT COULD LOOK THIS FREAKIN GOOD!!!! Why in sweet goddamn had BIS not done this themselves and mapped to the sat/map texture type?

    OPFOR camo variants

I really like these textures!!! I don't know, it just seems weird that the Iranians would go out on a limb and invent something so totally balls-out different as the hex camo (especially given it's marginal effectiveness over conventional camo in macro/micropatterning). Some multicam coloured desert stuff like the 2nd option in the first post seems a bit more plausible to me. But obviously this is a personal thing. :) ::edit:: Now I just need to find a way to get rid of those wrist guards on the OPFOR and have them wear proper sleeves and they'd be perfect ::edit::

    midrange terrain texture replacement

Holy f#*king shite that looks amazing! Admittedly when you look close up it seems inconsistent in mapping with the earth/sand patches but given the engine constraints currently this is freaking awesome. Good work to all involved! ::edit:: Now that I think about it, this is EXACTLY the sort of aggressive noisy constrasting textures that the distant tree LOD textures need to look convincing ::edit::

    [210.6MB]Update changelog? 21-mar-2013

I'm still getting the smooth 'hitching' in FPS even if just sitting in a civvy vehicle as passenger while it drives around on the roads. But I haven't seen a changelog so I have no idea whether the performance stuff should be better or not.

    Vegetation Texture Pop-Ups Still Ugly

Yeah this has been a big problem for the series since the original Arma (can't speak for OFP since I never played it) and at the time of the original it was annoying but far from unique in gaming. It is frustrating because it severely detracts from the immersion factor and as XBrettlyX pointed out, it's REALLY easy to mistake it for movement in the corner of your eye. This then leads to either a hyperalert state where you have to look at everything, or you start ignoring it and then miss an enemy soldier and get killed. So I can definitely add my voice to those who think it'd be great to have a smoothly blended LOD texture change rather than an abrupt cut which is visually jarring.

    Terrain Improvement (dev branch)

Damn, freakin Outerra looks awesome. But yeah, the problem with a lot of this tech demo stuff is that Bohemia even if they DID purchase one of the engines, would basically have to reconstruct the game engine around that new core program. That essentially means no way is it likely to happen at any point soon. That said, I think BIS would be well served to have a look at some of these technologies to see if they can pick up a trick or two (if they haven't already had a look).

    They better have female soldiers...

Nailed it. Can't be bothered anymore. This is just circular to the point of the ridiculous.

    They better have female soldiers...

All I was attempting to say is that those arguments are for another thread. If you wish to create a thread on Women in the Infantry and have that debate there, that's fine (I still feel that it's a debate dominated by sexism, but that's for another day and not for here). But to say it's ok to have women in the game, but at the same time then say try to argue that women shouldn't be in the infantry anyway, THAT is sexist. Just saying that you think women should be in the game would be fine. But bringing those other arguments here, when it's just about whether women should be in the game, that's sexist.

    Landtex

Just installed. The screenshots don't even do it justice. Evens out so many of those ugly fake shadows on the terrain too!!! Now if only they would implement Nordkindchen's midrange rendering solution and Elcoo's grass at range solution this game would look perfect.

    They better have female soldiers...

PN11A I do appreciate the civility. I see it as being sexist because whatever your feelings and opinions may be and despite whatever facts you use to support them, a significant number of defence forces worldwide have women serving who are exposed to combat. They are already there and to not have Arma represent that detracts from the realism of the game. I don't honestly care if it's only a 1 in 10 ratio, or even less. But they should be represented as the combatants they are. In Arma I primarily make and edit missions. I like to play a wide variety of roles through a wide variety of scenarios. Even if you ignore women in straight out infantry combat, what about defending a base where there would be plenty of support units and thus there should be female soldiers present? Or an ambushed logistics convoy. The fact is that Arma encompasses a wide range of scenarios outside of straight-up conventional infantry combat and so it doesn't make sense to not have female combatants given their presence in the real world.

    They better have female soldiers...

Um, I never stated that you didn't want female characters in the game. So I don't know where you got that from. I just said it was sexist to bring the argument of 'whether women should be in the infantry' to a thread about 'whether female soldiers should be in ARMA to reflect the real world'. Also can you quit with the constant personal insults, it gets quite boring.
  22. r3volution

    They better have female soldiers...

Like I said when I had revised my point, most NATO countries allow women to serve in roles which they are exposed to combat. The most significant NATO member countries either allow women in Infantry units or are in the process of doing so. You are ignoring the facts here not me. There you go again conflating the arguments. Do you read my posts? I think that it's fair to say that not wanting women in a game is sexist. If I say I don't want black people in a game, but state clearly I'm not racist, I'd still be a racist.
  23. r3volution

    They better have female soldiers...

SO. Where is the 100% fiction? The thing that makes this sexist is that this is an argument about whether female soldiers who ARE there should be represented in the game. And those who are arguing against it keep conflating that, with talking about why women aren't suited to frontline service. THAT'S why this is being sexist. I will just rest my case here as I feel that further 'argument' on this issue is not achieving much beyond chewing up server space. I hope that the Developers will acknowledge the fact that women are on the frontlines in current combat, and reflect this reality in the game.
  24. r3volution

    They better have female soldiers...

Scrim: I apologise that I made the mistake of assuming that more NATO countries were forward thinking. But please don't let that one little assumption on my part stop you from understanding that the most significant NATO member countries either have allowed or are allowing women on the frontlines. That women are and have been engaged in combat during the past 10 years as infantry. Let the man who builds no arguments out of straw call straw-manning. So it's a choice between ARMA: THIS IS WAR (but with just men) or ARMA: THIS IS WAR And a lot of stuff in this thread is still probably better suited for a thread called 'Wai Wimmin shuddunt be inna armiez"
  25. Absolutely agreed. I was having a very similar thought about whether they were placeholder graphics or not. Regardless, a bit more intensity to the explosions and a change in the colour of the smoke would make a world of difference. Also it would be nice if smoke plumes would go higher/further and be far more persistant. Real smoke/dust doesn't clear anywhere NEAR as quickly as it seems to in Arma3.
