    Ofp...dead?

The fact that people are buying it at all suggests that OFP is not dead. There aren't many ~2 year old games out there (im talking about resistance here) that aren't on budget. Mora2 - I think that your priorities differ from mine. We have had high numbers of people visiting the forums recently due to the recent news and innovations and there is genuine excitement in the community. OFP dead? This is only the start of things to come.
  2. Very happy birthday BIS and all the best for the next 4 years.

How often do you (still) play OFP

Well, I can't play everyday beacuse of real life, but I fit in at least a few mission attempts a week. Actually got round to rearranging my mission folder into something a bit more useable last night and uncovered some real gems. BI Forum members think about OFP once every 6 seconds. FACT.

    Game FREEZES

28th January 2004. BIS releases version 1.96 Beta to the world. This file created flashpointbeta.exe and so testers could try both their v1.9x and v1.96 without having to change anything. As there was no subsequent difference between the Beta version, the release candidade and the final version, many people (including myself) didn't bother to re-download essentially the same file. Hence, some people starting up with flashpointbeta.exe Tomorrow, some more important dates in OFP history!
  6. We've had some fantasic passionate debate covering both sides of this hotley fought argument without resorting to flaming and then: No wonder these threads keep getting locked down
  7. A notable exception to this thread has been the FDF's mod, a mod that relies very little on hype or popular scenarios but has created what many describe as an essential download. FDF let the quality of the MOD speak for themselves and manage to deliver new packages meer days after releasing intial pictures, etc. In addition, by releasing bits and pieces contantly, very little abuse is send their way. To sum it up, FDF seems to get it right. Edited for clarity

Turning OFP into your favourite game!

I hope that it doesn't, only because it either runs nicely alongside mods in a seperate mod folder, or is completely incompatible due to the mods own specialist effects (such as FlashFX or the FDF effects). Keeping it seperate just gives that option to keep it optional, thats all. Edit - , ahh so thats how it decides - cheers honchoblack

How about searching? http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=46853 hope this helps! (yes I realise that Major Fubars last link links back to this thread)

    New Delta Force Missions

Single player / multiplayer? Author? New mission or an old mission rediscovered? Mission synopsis? Just curious! Edit - finally had a chance to download and read the readme's. Interesting stuff AliMag, I'll have a play tonight.

    MF or CR...

you say tomato, I say tomato... Sounds like healthy competition is working towards a better CTI future. Cheers for clearing up the differences between the different versions. This thread has prompted me to try both of these, which can't be a bad thing surely?

Ofp 2 Featured in Pc Gamer (uk)

the topic is about OFP Mods and computer magazines, so I should be safe, fingers crossed! It's obviously David Armstrong who has turned to the dark side Back on topic: one of the dates could relate to the xbox release date. But there are plenty of threads on that subject

    MF or CR...

sorry for what may be an obvious question, but is MFCTI v1.17 and MFCTI.COM v1.40 two seperate CTI's; two similar CTI's or two versions of the same CTI? Im just a bit confused.

If I can bring the topic, slightly back on-topic! and I have the benifit of Wildo's attention (hi wildo, long time lurker at I44 forum, never got round to signing up, looking forward to the newsletter), Do the I44 team plan to ask any of the computing mags to host the someday release? Or am I better off asking the computer mags to hassle you for permission at the appropriate time? Having the mods on the cover disks makes life much easier for the 56k'ers and promotes non regular OFP players to re-install flashpoint and to appreciate your works and to appreciate the progress that has been made in the last few years over vanilla OFP. (plus I dont have to re-download the mod when things inevitably go wrong!) Cheers.

Update - The July edition also contains the FDF filles (1.3 i presume. Its 475630 Kb's in size if that helps), always handy for backup. and the MEC final missions, but not the required addons for some reason. Strange as there is plenty of room on the disk now that movies are not going to be on the cover disks in future (something to do with age ratings im lead to believe). Maybe they couldn't get all the permissions for the addons, I dont know. Heres hoping that given the renewed interest in OFP that further large mods will be included on future disks. Thinking I44 and that sort of thing. Edit - Patches up to v1.46 included too.

Guide to on-line play for noobs

@Cobra Eater, I had this problem when I was downloading addons/missions etc and playing them on my off-line computer at home. My computer would hang also when trying to create a new server. I tried a lot of threads on here that suggested changing the port number and other things. As stupid as it was, the answer turned out to be that I had removed the Lan card a couple of months earlier and only reseating it on the motherboard got the multiplayer working off-line, even though nothing was plugged into or out of it. Maybe a stab in the dark but it might help. But I do like playing multiplayer off-line with the AI. Its fun. Especially real paintball...

@Buggs - Presumably the July edition is only available for the subscribers, i've not seen anything on the shelves as yet. Otherwise, quite a nice article to release to the unconverted masses. Over at the PCG forums there is always a lot of love and praise for OFP everytime it gets mentioned so im confident the media support should be there.

    DMA Animation Pack 1.0

Top work, congratulations on this combined effort. Now need to make my excuses to leave work early!
  19. Having not been to war or anything, the closest being films and OFP, my question is do professional troops do much hooping and hollering on the battlefield? (to use the forementioned phrase). If (and im entirely speculating here) a random mod were to introduce some communication during a mission, its not going to give my position away is it if one of my blokes decides to provide some words of wisdom during a critical stealthy part is it? And more importantly, depending on your point of view, its not going to annoy me will it when a phrase for example "aghh, im hit, you guys go on without me, cough!" or something equally rubbish gets used for the fifth time in a mission? Pub at lunch time = no real work getting done for rest of day

    OFP Freezing for 30 seconds

Just to provide a little bit of ballance, the newer drivers may not be a problem for your graphic card so don't be put off giving it ago. Its not as if rolling back the drivers is much effort. Note -im basing this entirely on a GF6600GT on the 71.89 (ish) drivers so feel free to disregard.
  21. From Spy's posts so far, I thought he had done. He recognised the need to improve the physics in a couple of areas and suggested one way to raise the required capital. IMHO as long as the infantry engine is robust, im happy with everything else giving the impression of a big-ongoing combined forces battle going on.

    The-Architect's New Mission Poll

I think its been the 3rd time in a row now that i've gone to vote and then without concentrating too much, clicked the null vote button. Anyway, I clicked the combined armes button, although its probably irrelevent now with it being quite poular anyway. If I was being greedy I'd ask for loads more PUKF stuff to be included (that mission of yours with the Prodigy track at the start was excellent!). Something with Landies in perhaps. I keep meaning to write something similar to Sanctuaries Marine replacement Pack so I can have PUKF units in all missions, but work and only a vague understanding of things keeps getting in the way. Ho hum.

Is Armed Assault gonna be shipped with manual?

A manual is always nice and everything, and given the choice I would say yes please! However, manuals seem to be getting rarer and thinner replaced with the biggest cost saver - the PDF manual. (which when playing the game is useless!). OFP:cwc had an adequate manual (plus that stand-up thing) which when combined with the campaign taught you pretty much everything throughout its course. The hard-core originals who played the demo to death already had a great knowledge already but this is beside the point. Which leads us up to the next point. Once OFP:AA is released we will have 2 camps - the OFP player and the brand new AA players. At least the expansion pack beforehand required you to have cwc and so no huge learning curves were necessary. AA is stand alone and so no prior knowledge can be expected. And so now we have a forthcoming campaign that will have to be newbi friendly and yet please the veterans. Or does it? Any thoughts?

    FlashFx Units Replacement pack 5.0!

Presumably, by removing the animation files from the forthcoming FFUR5.0, the vanilla animations will be re-enabled? I have a lot of respect for Sanctuary and the animation guys and the up coming DMA Animation Pack 1.0 sounds very interesting but the option to remove it if needs be would be nice. Or am I worrying over nothing?

    Armed Assault

Just realised, it makes perfect sense now why BIS were asking for our current system specs ~6months ago and why when people explained that they would probably upgrade in 2006 for OFP2 and current specs were useless, they were told otherwise. i.e. BIS were collecting system specs to base ARAM on. I've probably missed someone elses post saying the same thing but hey.
