  1. Quote[/b] ]Please get your facts right, a maverick would destroy any tank, at any angle because it is just too huge for a tank to handle. We are not talking an RPG or HEAT or SABOT round here.

I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help, but YOU should get your facts straight. The AGM-65D is currently the only version of the Maverick in service that uses the 185 lb shaped-charge warhead (i.e. HEAT), which is the SAME warhead as the AGM-65A - a warhead whose design is OVER 40 YEARS old. It has no top attack ability (unless the missile just so happens to hit the top of the tank) like the TOW 2A, and it's penetration is mediocre at best - RHAe penetration estimates are far less than what the size of the warhead suggests.

Then, there are the Maverick variants featuring the 300 lb warhead (i.e. E/G/K) but these are NOT shape-charged/HEAT type warhead, but are more "general purpose" and thus even less effective against tanks relatively speaking.

It's funny how everyone thinks the Maverick is some super tank killer just because it has a big warhead. Laughable, really. I mean, sure, you're tank is probably going to be totalled by a single Mav, but only because of *where* it hits, not how hard it hits.

Well my friend... so far we agree that a HEAT warheaded Maverick would disbale any modern MBT in the world ?? Alright!

Sorry for being bitchy but this topic is about the armour of the Abrams (= any other modern MBT) and surely if a pilot would attack a tank, which maverick would he preferably use ?

Exactely ... the HEAT version. So your post is pointless.

Not the age nor the missing top attack ability are important in the case of the Maverick.

You further seem to underestimate the force (better: might) of explosives. Did you know that there is barely 200 gramm of TNT in a standard Handgrenade ?

And did you know that 2-5 Kilo of TNT would tear an APC/IFV apart ? And further did you know that those heavy IEDs letting Abrams tanks "fly" in Iraq are often old soviet FAB-100 dumb bombs ?

The sheer amount of TNT + the kinetic force (although low in AGM65's case), without the technology of HEAT or top attack would disable any tank .....

As some kind of reference, watch this two videos and again say that a ATGM/RPG would have a stronger effect on armour than a Maverick:

    AGM-65 Maverick video

    Conclusion:

Yes, the Maverick is a true tankbuster .... Like it or not, but facts are facts. smile_o.gif

Oh damn ... I just realize I agronat I turned ... this has only happened since ArmA came out... cause I have to justify myself etc. I might go to the "dont be so uptight thread" and confess.

    EDIT: videos added

  2. Agree totally.

The Ballistics in VBS2 are shown to be far more accurately represented, and VBS2 boast its the same engine as ARMA, so why have we got left with the bargin basement physics huh.gif

Hm.. every one says that VBS is times better than arma... which I believe on account. But I have seen any shooting in VBS2 so far...

can someone please provide a link to a VBS2 video ?

  3. Why do people still use the excuse that U.S. tanks never faced anything more advanced than monkey-model T-72s? M1A1/HA/HC/2/SEP tanks have been hit by U.S. weapons as well, and it almost always takes a combination of SABOTs, Mavericks, Hellfires and laser guided bombs before an Abrams is destroyed - and these weapons never pierce the frontal armour.

The arguments are getting old. No one can deny the fact that the Abrams in ArmA compares to the real thing like Batman would to a 6 year-old girl - frontally, it is highly unlikely that anything would effectively knock out (much less destroy) an M1. US tanks have been known to take a dozen RPGs in Iraq and come out unscathed - try replicating that in ArmA.

I agree partly. In fact its a very almost impossible to penetrate the tanks frontal armour.

Quote[/b] ]takes a combination of SABOTs, Mavericks, Hellfires and laser guided bombs before an Abrams is destroyed

This, I dont agree with though. Did you know that a hillfire weights 45 Kilo with some 4-5 Kg of explosives ? And that the AGM65 Maverick weights 300 Kg with 57 Kg of explosives ?

Please get your facts right, a maverick would destroy any tank, at any angle because it is just too huge for a tank to handle. We are not talking an RPG or HEAT or SABOT round here. wink_o.gif

And as for the T72s .... export versions of russian tanks always were tanks reduced in quality or performance. Either armour was thinner, distance was lower, ammunition was worse or electronics and optics were missing. So destroying an Iraqi T72 tank is not the same as destroying a russian T72, produced in the same year.

  4. With all due disrespect to anyone who didn't understood the M1A1 Abrams.

I recalled reading an autobiography of General Fred Franks done by Tom Clancy, the VII corps commader in the frst gulf war and in one of the chapters it stated clearly "RPG rounds were bouncing off the tanks armour", "Most Iraqi tank rounds were just scratching the pain off the abrams"

These were real after action reports...but thean again that's real life,

    this IS just a game....

What rounds, what tanks, what angle? Earlier in the thread I found an excerpt from a report that clearly showed an iraqi sabot round going inside the side of an m1a1 abrams and out the other.

Hey Plain can you please post that post again or PM me the link, Id like to have a look at that. Thanks.

  5. In the good old days of OFP...

while in a squad assigned a mission, it is your obligation, your job to do the thing. The tactics and though that run through your mind while you have to perfectly adapt to your surrounding, making the right decisions, inflicting as much damage as possible while still be mobile and on the run.

Acting in a team.... counting on your teammates, knowing they count on you... or using the last bit of resource you have to achieve your goal. Taking most dangeround actions while fearing for your life. Oh yes... I know that feeling only too well icon_rolleyes.gif

Edit: I forgot to mention that my hands are always sweaty at a C&H MP game.... puuh what a feeling that is to try to track the enemies thoughts and cross his way or expect him and whatnot.

  6. the way i see it, any exclusive missions included in the Atari US release will be available for everybody in another patch. just like "Blood Sweat and Tears" which was initially only available to buyers of the 505 release but now will be included in the upcoming patch.

    and those bloody cutscenes ....

Id rather have them in than that A10 mission.

  7. Quote[/b] ]n game US weapons have better accuracy and longer AI distance of fire

real effective fire range for M4 is about 350 meters in game 400

real effective fire range of AK74 is 500 m, but in game 400

    Uhh...no.

The 74 is a decided improvement over the 7.62 AKM but it will not outrange the M-4 due to the M-4's greater inherent accuracy, more accurate ammo and better sights.

    Bullshit !

you seem to forget that the AK74 is a rifle and the M4 only a carbine. Let alone the barrel length, whic is longer at the AK74 provides it with a longer shot distance.

And you cant talk about M4 being more accurate to AK74 as this is dependent on the type of ammo used, bullet weight. Russian bullets are anyway considered better, so the 5.45x39 compared to 5.56x45.

As for the optics, there are also AK74s with optics and there are also M4s with ironsights, so dont put it down that way that all M4s are scoped and all AK74s are old ironsight'ed cheap commie guns with no range and penetration.

  8. I agree with the above posters, expect SeppSchrot!

Dont spend $80 for a mission only... soon after release there will be plenty community made mission out there for you to play.

Now picture you pay $80 only for that mission and it was bugged lol

Let someone send you the mission file or download user-made ones. smile_o.gif

  9. Well, at that, then I would hope that the veterans would have patience with the lack of knowledge of the newcomers, and the newcomers have respect for the vets.

As for the mods, well, I'm new, from Battlefield2 to boot, but with every post, I try to convey respect and admiration for OFP vets and sim vets alike, and would hope that newcomers do the same, while hoping the mods become less "authoritive" and more "community building" while still maintaining a stiff hand at those who break rules and flame.

  10. SOBR[1st-I-R] @ May 05 2007,08:10)]Hehe If Im not wrong Canada had found a publisher at the same time as 505 and Australia. biggrin_o.gif

Sorry for laughing... its just funny how BIS split up the world. And thats what you get when you distribute like that.

i am happy that they have acturally able to publish the game

i am not happy that they have to push it out the market too early

I second that... some bit of a weird situation it was crazy_o.gif

    @ArmAVidz

As far as I remember, Canada found a publisher just before the Australians did... so the whole thing happened back then sometime in February (if im not wrong!wink_o.gif.

If it says Armed Assault, then it must be the Europe version ... but you say the publisher is Atari ? huh.gif

Btw. Why is everyone so keen on the A10 ? This is getting ridiculous, its just an addon like any other ... in fact you can only play around with it in the editor as there will be no official mission for the A10 for us Europeans.. and even if there were, those 1 or 2 mission would get boring quite fast.

  11. I think that the "spirit" in our community changed since ArmA was introduced. Let me explain why...

In the good old days of OFP, we mostly had veteran or at least pretty much experienced gamers and no newcomers (not saying noobs smile_o.gif )

But since arma.. the breach between the "snotty" former-ofp veterans and the new players to ArmA is wider than ever before. And of course someone who is experienced and someone that isnt cant come along with each other. Topdog and underdog there again.

  12. I kinda do the "spetsnaz" job. You find me outnumbered, behind enemy lines, silent and sneaky.. always behind you, accurate and sharp. Well that is if I play the game ...

No Im not being narcistic. tounge2.gif

Other than that... I would be a tank gunner if I had not to agree with Opteryx ...

  13. AKS74UN Kobra and AKS74UN PBS-4 Kobra are also listed but not ingame, i guess those ak are aks74 with Kobra sight.

Maybe they are in the crates only just like the .50cal snipers ?

As for the recoilless rifle ... I think they mean the UAZ mounted 90mm gun.
