Why shot sounds doesnt have reverb?
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to Speedkore's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Does it really make such a difference ?? I mean having a good sound card ? I am still on my old Radeon 9600Pro, so Im not obsessed by graphics... and Id change to a new soundcard if there is some real advantage compared to my onboard AC97. Please advise. -
Hi everyone! A soldier has two slots for weapons. First is for the main arm and the second for some kind rocket launchers or radio equipment. Now it would be nice if the soldier himself could determine what he would like to carry.... For example a Sniper would take a submachinegun as second arm strapped to his back instead of an RPG for CQB. It sounds simple to me. Can this be realized, do we need a script for it, what do you think ?

Hardware Issues: Tips/Tricks/Solutions
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to Jack-UK's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hey thanks for this great summary! I tried the GPU overclocking... and thats the result. Club 3D / Radeon 9600Pro Before OC'ing Core: 398 Mhz Mem: 300 Mhz x 2 = 600 Mhz After OC'ing Core: 444.60 Mhz Mem: 312.52 Mhz x 2 = 625.04 Hey thats a gain of: 46.6 Mhz Core (11.7 % more) and 25.04 Mhz Mem (4.17 % more). More than I expected.... great -
1904 and 1973 are the same makes me optimistic to see that even the changelog is bugged

Win98 / Windows 98 - Anyone made ArmA run on this?
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to Wook's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
As for the right system to run a game .... Id say Win 2000 Professional. In my opinion and experience the most successful and greatest OS ever. I used it for 5 years and just swaped to XP. Win 2000 is just the right OS for any kind of job .... Win 98SE.. I still like it, but cant remember how games did on that. (expect for Team Apache which was great fun) -
Newbee cant manage Stryker Gun
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to Michael_Wittman's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Whats the point talking about my sex ? I didnt even use the Stryker once in ArmA ... thats why I didnt know its not even equipped with a cox MG. -
@ Banzai - dont quote immages mate, you better remove it before a mod wakes up. Did anyone notice that that guy has 40x 100rnd 7.62mm ammoboxes in his rucksack + some other stuff ? Well... I just requested a simple script which would make playing a lot more fun... and then again it turned out so something ... ehh .. else

Newbee cant manage Stryker Gun
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to Michael_Wittman's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
You dont know how to use the guns on the Stryker ?? Oh well... 1. Get in Stryker as gunner 2. Press "V" or Numpad "0" to activate scope 3. Press "+" and/or "-" to adjust range 4. Press "F" to choose the right type of gun (7,62mm or 25mm) 5. Press left mouse button to fire cheers! -
would you do me the favour and create a poll and instruct people how to use it ? You got my point well and Im at the moment not able to invest more time here mate... So this is your idea and your poll. cheers.
-
Holy crap guys ! Lets take it a bit slowly here... the original idea of mine was pretty simple and easy to realize and very usefull indeed. In combat it is no problem to have another gun strapped to your back, please dont overdo it otherwise this will again lead to some good idea that could not be realized because people "attached to much weight at it" = expected and wanted too much. Now please advise me... what would have more effect ? 1. Create a poll to show BIS that people want it 2. Add it as a feature on that bugtracker site

ArmA Addon request thread
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to raedor's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
either FDF sounds mod or ModWar modification. I'd say FDF as zooming is enabled in the video... (modwar has no zoom) -
Honestely DONT download ! There you only have 3 activation keys that give you a LOT of trouble when reinstalling or installing a patch. Wait this one week and make sure you get a hard copy in your hands mate. Honestely dont make a mistake one week before release.

If I get hit in the vest at 600m by 5.56 I don't expect to die or even feel the effects after a minute. Second that. I would even set down the range of 600meters. The 5.56 Rem tends to tumble when it hits something, over far distances this round has some kind of advantage compared to the 5.45x39 which is smaller and thiner and lighter but still none of these rounds would be able to penetrate a class III vest at 150 or 200 meters (no AP!.
-
I never said that a tank would fully explode when its penetrated. It always depends on what the HEAT copper jet hits inside the tank. Take my quote: You see that I make a difference between pierce and destroy ? I by the way fully agree to walker and Innocent & Clueless. And concerning that video: To me it looked like three ATGMs were fired at the tank and one RPG. The first two hits were ATGMs (due to speed and explosion power), the third was an RPG, and the fourth hit (last 1-2 seconds) was again an ATGM probably. And these rounds can not bounce of at all, because this is HEAT. Only SABOT rounds can in certain angles be deflected.

I'd love to see huge cities in game 2 But I immagine it would be dead hard to surive in there... immagine you would need to wipe out that city... thats you dead definitely. Respawn would be needed very much... one GP25 or RPG could take out a whole squad. Shit this is cool.
-
Yeah thats true.... modern, well trained armies are pretty good prepaired for urban fights and I also doubt that the Hizbollah had much of a chance to hit many tanks in the sides. RPG-2 was used in the Vietnam Era though... none are in use, all replaced by RPG7 - even by guerillas. The Kornet... well, I dont want to be in no tank when hit by a Kornet... It has a tandem-HEAT warhead and is very agile and un-jammable.. and the penetration is believed to be 1200 mm RHA. If a missile can pierce (or even destroy) a Merkava, than it would be the Kornet.
-
Yeah talking about the M1A1 ... surely they and any other modern MBT (Lecrec, Leo II, Challenger II, T80, T90) can be pierced from the side and back from an RPG. A PG7VL warhead has just the same penetration power as the Swedish Bill2 you've seen and more than the MBT LAW. The "Type of tanks" we've seen blowing up were just IFVs ... hence no tanks. Well ... I couldnt watch the video, but you obvioulsy could... so if you dont know them missiles, how can you judge that they are alot more powerful than the RPG ? Son ... how do you put it ? You cant say a Merkava is stronger than an M1A1. You can not compare tanks like this. You think the RPG7 is obsolete because its old and soviet anyway ? Most modern (Helicoper) guided ATGMs perform lightly over 800mm and some only 1000-1200 mm and the RPG still does 650mm (more than some APDS round at 1 or 2 km distance). So please only post if you have information that are true and based on something. The story with your Merkava friend.... well put it somewhere else.

Thanks very much for the unprofessional and simply wrong statement. RPGs can pretty much easily destory a tank, especially in urban combat and when infantry support for the armour is not given. Talking about the RPG, the PG7VL can penetrate up to 650 mm RHA and most other "standard" rocket propelled grenades (M136, M3, PzF 3) do at least 500mm and above. Of course almost nothing can penetrate the front arc of a tank or the 60° welded parts but the side (which makes most of m² of the tank) and the back are pretty thin and thus easily to penetrate. The HEAT round of a PG7VL will dead sure penetrate the side armour of any modern tank to some good extent. This is why the RPG is so renown.... cheap, easy to use and damn powerful. Tanks are no Goliath... yes the can also be treated with a $300 RPG. And the reason that not many tanks have been lost in the third gulf war is simply due to the good tactics of the US and the bad range of the RPG. I would like to approach a tank with infantry and IFVs in the aread to 100m to take a shot and disappear again. Edit: Oh and by the way... concerning that Video, it is NOT a TOW but a Swedish Bill 2: And as for the penetration of the side armour @ 35 seconds

Starting in the 1920s a standard British infantry section included what was termed a "sniper". He was basically just an above-average shot with the standard service rifle (no optical sights or any fancy stuff like that) and his task was identical to that of the later "designated marksmen". So the British had the idea in the 1920s, the Russkies in 1965 and the US in 2003. Okay, Agree Still the US are the last ones
-
Wouldn't be supprise... Being in optics of sniper is one of worst nightmares to grunt. But, was that guy sniper or designated markman? I don't know how US uses snipers (do they have these marksmen atall, or are all just called snipers?)... We have pretty many classes for those and terms aren't always clear: Some of them works in platoon/squad level, some little bit higher level and in little bit different tasks. Yeah they also have the difference between DM (desig. marksman) and Snipers. As far as I know they have a DMR (desig. marksmans rilfe) for the DMs which is basically a longerbarreled, accurancy increased M4 with magnification. Range of those DMs is supposed to be max. 600 meters, so just the Dragunov principle... only that the ruskies had the idea back in 1965 and the US in 2003
-
I admit... I was too lazy to read all of your post so I decided to watch the video. And I must say.... great, I like the idea very much and share your opinion ! Thanks very much... Id really welcome it if this would get far enough to be in the game as a matter of fact.

1GB Ram to 2GB Ram - Boost in Performance?
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- replied to The_Nebula's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
As far as I am concerned the amount of RAM is not that important anymore when great values are involved anywhere. Doubling the RAM will maybe add only 5-10 % of advantage I would say. What really counts is the latency times ... Example: Usually they are written in a row like CL4 4-4-12. The lower the better ! And DDR2 is not equal to DDR2 .. if you want the fastest, get PC800 instead of PC667 or PC553 .... In my view the speed of the connection of RAM is more important than the Amount. Just like the 128 or 256 bit graphiccard interface or the core clock (which is not saying that much anymore). -
Hm... Im very much looking forward to OFP2 (not game2). If the game has the good old advantages like ofp/arma (freedom, editor, addon compatibility etc) I will surely play OFP2 instead of crappy ArmA. For ArmA I didnt get a new PC... for OFP2 Id do gladly though. Codermasters was anyway better of with some other company, BIs is simply too small and thus way too slow. BTw. did anyone notice that the pic could be from a movie scene rather than from a gameplay scene ? Note how the left soldier is lying there.... this cant be possible in a game, can it ? (imagine pressing a key to do that)

Oh thanks.. didnt knew that even as a vet.
