How the new dimension water can be used [Ideas & Concepts]
Daniel replied to purepassion's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
A submarine interior is just about the worst environment I can think of for controlling an Arma series avatar. :p I'd say making 'contact' with the crew and having the correct hatches open to start or end a mission would be sufficient. Not to mention those sort of areas are heavily classified and would take a lot of artistic licence on BIS' part to recreate. -
Ireland? Nah, pretty sure that's India, with the 24 spoke wheel in the centre.
-
Exactly, it would have to be for the love of the genre. I think for that reason, if anyone is ever to make something military, realistic and open world, it's either going to be a talented indie developer or a successful mod team.
-
That site does need a generator. To quote CMD.

"It'd be cheaper to just go travel on the real trains." That bit cracked me up.
-
Agreed. I think the whole Codemasters debacle probably helped motivate BIS to make the vast improvements brought in by Arma 2 and subsequent releases. Arma 3 looks like it's going to be a winner, genuine competition could only increase interest in the genre. I don't see any on the horizon though. Other developers just don't seem to have the vision or backing to make real sand-box military games anymore.
-
Absolutely. I'd happily sacrifice the "tactical implications" of fighting into the sun if it means I can see where i'm going on a sunny day. :p Hopefully BIS can provide a short demo showing how this won't be an issue in Arma 3 and we can go back to discussing light sources...

Because cool features does not a good game make. If the feature doesn't come coupled with all the necessary AI routines to make disguising in enemy clothing believable, then it's a crap feature. Nice find by the way Rye. ;)

What weapons/vehicles would you like to see in ArmA 3?
Daniel replied to archaon98's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'd like to see the Tactical Tomahawk. And no, I don't mean this one. :p I mean this one. TLAMs are the only real use I can see for a static Astute class submarine, besides acting as a base for SBS units. The Tactical TLAM has a TV camera, allowing commanders on the ground to select a target while the missile loiters. -
Final Astute class nears completion:

I remember hours of fun on OFP's Desert Island playing Woodland vs Desert football using DKM FV432s! :D Five-a-side with a circling helicopter for spectators. DKM Football, now there was a game. I think the ball was a UN scheme 432. You could even take corners.

Some interesting listening on the subject. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0106tjc

Perfect accuracy when firing from the hip
Daniel replied to SandboxPlaya's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Problem? Just kidding, but seriously, Arma 3 (and real life) is going to be filled with CQB sights and cantilever magnifying optics. So you're guaranteed a weapon that can fire accurately out to 300m and still clear buildings effectively. Then what? If your concern is balancing in PvP, here's what you do. Give everyone M4s and AKs with ironsights. Treat any magnifying optics as marksman rifles and limit their availability*. That's a tried and tested method, makes for great gameplay and is easy to achieve. *Anything from one per squad, one per side or none whatsoever. -

And metalcraze strikes again with all the tact of a tactical breeze block. :p -

To crosshair or not to crosshair is literally a ten year old argument, the only sensible outcome is to let the servers decide. Personally I think they should be off by default. But I know many players on these forums will disagree passionately with that. :p -

It is standard on most realism orientated servers. It's always as simple as picking the difficulty setting for the server host. You never hip fire in Arma, your weapon is always shouldered. Weapons such as the GPMGs and high calibre sniper rifles should probably have a different animation than being shouldered all the time, or at least have a big weapon sway over time. -
Thanks for the explanation PELHAM.

Railguns and coilguns - could a BI dev clear that up?

Useful reading on the causes and effects of EMP: EMP Myths. E1, E2 and E3 Characteristics. -
That first link you posted cropped in in this video a couple of years ago: Veering off topic slightly, if you watch from 2:25, you'll notice there's a scale mock up, in China, apparently of the whole Kashmir border.

Disruptive Pattern Terrain? :butbut: That second image is pretty mental. At first I was going to say an artifact or something in the way of the lens, but when you zoom in they're almost certainly track marks. In fact that whole region looks weird from a satellite, almost like sea or lightning.

I think you'll find it's "Rainbow 6: Shoot the NYPD cops, then throw the civilian hostage off the bridge to save the day".

Nice video walker, thanks for posting. That guy's a good speaker. Reminds me of my old Managing Director. -

Am I right in thinking that just because a vessel has a nuclear power plant, it doesn't necessarily have all that power "on tap"? It still needs to drive a regular steam plant to generate electricity. So anything that requires a large amount of power instantaneously, a la a rail gun, is going to require a very large volume, besides the reactor itself, to generate that power or to store it up in capacitors. Certainly beyond the realms of modern main battle tanks but perhaps along the right lines with a cruiser or aircraft carrier. -
Aw this is good stuff. Having a bit of a mini Mr Scruff phase again. c6L1JNZph7U
