Name a helicopter in this game that is realistically capable of transporting a tank in the first place. ;)

Looks great Dutch, glad it went well! -
ACE 1.5 Beta (Advanced Combat Environment)
Daniel replied to xeno's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yeah, we had them working too a couple of months ago. There are no occupants, and we tried on both vehicles and crates, with the helo at every height imaginable and still no luck. I would appreciate some reproduction steps to get it working but my gut feeling is it's either broken or disabled. -
Mando Missile ArmA for ArmA 2
Daniel replied to mandoble's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Sounds scary as hell, nice one! :) -
That'd be awesome. Especially with militia forces in winter gear along with the conventional forces. All the ponds would have to be frozen over too, solves the AI issue right there. :p

Just to confirm, are the slingropes working for anyone? -
ACE 1.5 Beta (Advanced Combat Environment)
Daniel replied to xeno's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Any chance of a sitrep regarding ACE Slingropes? They seem disabled, just wondering if or when they'll be back. -
You can, but they'll lack certain features that come with the Arrowhead units, such as proper thermal imaging textures, countermeasures, IR lasers, thermal cameras, etc. There are addons available to address some of the issues. Though you can use Chernarus itself perfectly. Yes, multiplayer servers can host all ArmA2 and Arrowhead content.

Operation TITAN - mission by TheDudeAbides. Task Force 86 was tasked with clearing the Main Supply Route into the base. The section leaves the base in staggered file and immediately comes under effective enemy fire. Return fire is directed onto the corner shop and the left-hand street. Mike spots targets for Mac. We were taking harassing fire from a hilltop on the edge of town, this was silenced by a section attack later in the operation. Stag and Dan help clear the hilltop compound. Lining up for a section attack on the last remaining hostiles. -
ArmA II Photography I: Questions. Comments & Discussion

Agreed. I can't imagine anyone ever sweating in combat. And IceBreakr ought to have completely redone the character animations for the civilian just for this screenshot, perhaps modelled in a harness too. -
Not true Mac, modern torpedoes do nasty things to surface vessels, if the pressure wave is in the right place. So if an enemy submarine was allowed to get close enough (debatable given western sonar technology, although the above article seems to suggest otherwise), and if it got a shot on target past the countermeasures (do surface vessels use CM?), it could conceivably take take out a carrier. Even if it didn't sink, I wouldn't imagine the flight deck would be much use. Of course, whether the submarine would escape the CBG is a different story.

ACRE v1.0 - Advanced Combat Radio Environment - Official Thread (ArmA2 to TS3 Plugin)
Daniel replied to noubernou's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
How about, as in real life, a JTAC needs to contact air assets or command regardless of their location? So you'd have one SATCOM (and whatever the pilots would be using, presumably not PRC-119s...), maybe two, on the whole map. It kinda sucks having to type to someone until they get in your overhead. -
At the same time you have to have drawbacks for using longer weapons in game. There's a reason weapons intended for close range combat are designed to be shorter (besides not having to fire as far). You'll find it much easier to move through buildings in ArmA using a stubby submachine gun, for example, than with a sniper rifle or gpmg. Although i'm not saying the current system is ideal.

New island projects - what do you want?
Daniel replied to icebreakr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Are there any major disadvantages to simply using a 20x20km real world terrain, as opposed to using a much larger terrain scaled down to 20x20km? I fancy having a crack at terrain building again. -
FRL Airforce Addons release thread
Daniel replied to [frl]myke's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Haven't seen anything that cool since the original DKM Comanche, very clever work there Myke! -
That is very nice to hear, having the "500lb suit all" is something that's always bothered me. Cheers!
-
Just on the off chance Opticalsnare, have you considered making explosion effects for bombs larger than the standard BIS bombs? I'm sure artists like RKSL and Myke could put them to good use.

Project Reality - WIP Discussion
Daniel replied to craig.turner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Actually i'm looking forward to some structured, "realistic" PvP. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. You can use any old mod for co-op, PvP takes a bit more finesse to get right. -
Think of it like this: The back seat is more suited to flying the aircraft, while the front seat is better equipped for fighting the aircraft. At the same time, either station can fly the aircraft, either station can action most of the weaponry (both stations usually work together when firing rockets), and either station can act as the aircraft captain for the mission. For example, if the pilot spots a muzzle flash that the gunner didn't see, it might be quicker for him to say "My gun", action the cannon and quickly squeeze off a burst on that location, than it would be to talk the gunner onto it. Likewise, if for whatever reason the pilot has to attend to something, say a system goes down (or if this were possible in game, say his dinner was ready :p), he could say "You have the control" and hand the flying over to the front-seater.

Cracking Review of Operation Arrowhead...er..I think.
Daniel replied to bascule42's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Massive, massive sense of humour failure taking place on these boards... Anyway, this made me laugh out loud, pure genius. Man I need to get to bed. Love it. :D -
Anyone remember Urban Assault? Another great sci-fi RTS where you could directly control tanks, turrets and aircraft. I only played the demo but I remember it being very in-depth. I'm starting to really look forward to Carrier Command now, I miss the old unique, off the wall RTS games...

Do you want OPFOR vehicles to have TI?
Daniel replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
That guy Very good suggestion. There's no reason why the Takistani's couldn't buy export T-72s and make their own modifications. I still think they should introduce Active IR. :p -
I made my own weight from cutting and filing a metal dowel during my apprenticeship. Never did find where it got to...
