ACE 1.5 (Advanced Combat Environment) for OA/CO
Daniel replied to xeno's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Wow, CSW Mortars! Just ran into a problem though, I can't seem to mount any CSW weapons on the base units. I can select and deploy the tri-pods/base plates fine. I just don't get an option to mount any weapons. Has something changed? -
Do you think it's necessary for BIS providing lockable binPBO?
Daniel replied to ffur2007slx2_5's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The "Why should addon makers get more protection that everyone else?" argument is a little childish. It's pretty obvious that they are more at risk of having their work exploited. I'm all for giving addon makers the option to lock their work if they so choose to. There will still be helpful community members, forums and tutorials to help new modders. -

Yeah, I think you need SIX Updater for the latest version. But the creator is working on an update with new ground textures, road networks and villages too! -

Make AH-64D glass impervious to 5.56mm rounds
Daniel replied to cmorris975's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yeah, the real armour plating is either side below the windows. If you read books where Apaches take fire, the pilots often seem to want to be lower in their seats away from the windows. -
Original GoldenEye Director "Console FPS don't innovate, happens only on PC"
Daniel replied to Zipper5's topic in OFFTOPIC
Bascule42 I completely agree. Great games are out there (as we all know), but you have to put some time and effort in to see results. The same goes for good music vs X Factor shite, excellent food vs fast food, etc. -
All very welcome updates, especially the frogs!

Veering a little offtopic... The major argument for continuing Trident (Successor class) is that we lack the crystal ball that tells us what future threats we'll face. Having our own fairly independent sovereign deterrent means we can deal with any future worst case scenario. Although that doesn't in any way justify killing off some our other capabilities... Question regarding scrapping Nimrod and the F-35/ASW Merlin topic: Won't the Astute fleet somewhat plug the gap once it's commissioned? It should have better performance than the current attack sub fleet (as long as they avoid crashing any more subs into Scotland).
-
As are British subs. You only hear the bad news. Astute should adopt the Skye Boat Song as its unofficial anthem. :p
-
No, you cannot. [/thread]

Ha, that's crazy, i've sat behind the right door gun of Huey 509! It does sound incredible in real life. -
Third time it's been launched so far! :p

British 3 Rifle Infantry MTP

Works for TF86. ;) We pick gear prior to the op start so it matches the terrain. It could also be done through in-game scripting. -
Optical Snare owes us nothing. ;) He's a freelance addon maker just like everyone else, anything we get is a privilege. Sit tight for now, i'm sure OS will update this thread in his own time.

Laser Guided Bomb Computer for aircraft
Daniel replied to viper0311's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
There's no reason why GPS guided bombs shouldn't be in game. If they're deemed too overpowered, don't add them to the mission. Simple. Systems like these need more fidelity. As mentioned above, lasers are too easy to use in all weathers and from all angles. Likewise, any GPS system should require the JTAC gives the proper altitude to keep the bombing accurate. On the other hand... http://www.fighterpilotuniversity.com/index.cfm/2008/1/19/JDAM :D -
When you want to complain about DLC, check Sims 3 & Civ V
Daniel replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hey, I didn't say it was a bad idea! It's genius. True, you have to be pretty daft to pay real money for a virtual hat. But you can't deny it's very easy money for Valve. -

Daniel replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Heh, Valve are even cashing in on custom hats!! Money doesn't get any easier than that. -
Well, seeing as the real thing won't be much more than a massively glorified helicopter carrier until 2020, that's more than adequate. Sarcasm aside, still very much looking forward to trying this.

Making Bulidings More Destructible
Daniel replied to jblack9's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Nah, they're probably tougher because of it. Think of HESCOs. -
They look impressive but the AI still doesn't handle slopes well, they'd need an overhaul first.
-
It's the kit we all want really, but I think packs sell better when they've got mission content too. Same goes for community mods. It's always nice to have things showcased by the makers, and it's a good excuse to tell a story.
-
I really like the sound of this. It's about the only way to get OMLT into the game too: you can't "teach" AI but you can be taught by scripted AI allies.
-
That's looking smart! The terrain has a lot of character.
-
I'd like to see BIS continue to create a number of regional conflict DLC packs. Each pack would contain two opposing factions, including a full array of weapons and vehicles for each. It would also contain a new piece of terrain, along with missions and a mini campaign. Similar to the BAF DLC. The terrain should stay fictional but would be roughly based off a real location. At least one faction should be real-world. The packs should tie in with the current "ArmAverse", perhaps with story arcs where appropriate. Bundeswehr would be an interesting choice. I think BIS should look at other areas of the globe for new fictional regions. An island off the coast of Africa perhaps, or somewhere with a tundra landscape. I think a new, small, fictional conventional opposing force would be a good break from irregular opfor too. I'll try and think up some scenarios. Or perhaps a European Battlegroup style DLC? * How's this for a pitch. (concept borrowed from CarlGustaffa) The campaign starts you as a young farmer on an African island. The neighbouring country has decided to take control of the island nation and installs its own government. A small NATO contingent is forced to abandon the island until the politicians agree a course of action. The opening missions see your village burned while you're out farming (you see helicopters fly over then notice the column of smoke on the return). You band together and exact revenge on the enemy before joining up with the resistance. Resistance style missions ensue until NATO forces return. Perhaps they could secretly fly a number of the resistance out to sea to undergo training. While restricted in their role, NATO troops do conduct OMLT on older weapon systems and aircraft, which the player receives, and goes on to push back the enemy with technicals, soviet era helicopters (perhaps only one) and NATO supplied anti-aircraft weapons. Several Single Player missions could be included played from the NATO army's of view. BLUFOR: Local Militia NATO Force with maritime capability OPFOR: Foreign Invaders (Third World Conventional Forces) Terrain: One new island, African themed.
