Cornerning E3: I guess we'll know more in a few days.
-
Hehe, yeah when I say just "bolt it" I mean figuratively of course. :D
-
I think i'm right in saying we have virtually no gameplay details yet concerning Arma 3. Hopefully E3 will shed some light on this area.
-
Ha, yeah ok, that's fictional. But it wouldn't require a major advancement of technological understanding to produce, would it? You just take the Hokum technology and bolt it onto a Havoc. Who knows, if it was ever produced it might prove to be an effective Russian export.
-
It's not science fiction. Being set in a near future alternate reality does not make it science fiction. To be specific, science fiction refers to imagined major scientific, technological and social advances. There's nothing we've seen of Arma 3, so far, that couldn't be done in today, or at least in the next ten years.

I've never been a great fan of Warfare, but I do like these ideas, especially the first one, about having to actually capture airfields and ports. It'd also make a big difference whether the terrain was land locked, and whether it had one or multiple airfields.
-
My money's on it being a Hind style passenger bay. I'm only expecting it to seat around four troops though.
-
Down the hole left by the melting core? :p I'll keep an eye out for it popping through on this side...

The potential for earthquakes near Blackpool ey? How far are these quakes supposed to travel? Sounds like an excellent idea for an area with two large nuclear power plants, a high level nuclear waste reprocessing site, a nuclear shipyard facility and new nuclear plants on the horizon. Genius!

What's your point? Victor Troska was himself ex Special Forces and James Gastovski's US Black Ops team help you throughout the campaign.
-
Massive woah. Did you play the OFP campaign? And don't think disorganised Libyan rebels struggling against Gadaffi in a civil war. Think Soviets getting their ass handed to them by the Mujahadeen. That sort of underdog. And the more heavy armour and deadly aircraft the better, just makes those underdog kills and thefts all the sweeter. Max Power got it spot on about character design, I hope BIS take that into serious consideration.

This kinda sums up my opinion on knives in BIS games. Even though deep, deep down I think BIS should should add bayonets.
-
Aw man. That looks more like body recovery, that pilot doesn't looks to be in a good way. I guess it could be a sort of objective prop. Seems odd that they'd add dismemberment to a military training aid, unless they're using it for some very graphic virtual medical training. Which of course they could be, but still...

The "Interesting Questions about the Game" thread, according to Instagoat
Daniel replied to instagoat's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Ah, that's not entirely what I meant, although I see how you could read it that way. I just meant it would seem strange, to me, for BIS to go to the effort of animating one aspect of the rotor system while ignoring another. I hope they go all the way and recreate all the visual aspects of the rotors. Indeed, I like the sound of that. Bodes well for addon makers. -

The one with what might just be a reflection. Looks very DXDLL... -
Unsurprising but still... urgh.

I quite like BIS music, it always seems to have that synthy BIS edge to it. But then I thought Seventh rocked so what do I know? :D That Queen's Gambit version is miles better, it didn't make me want to kick my speakers over, unlike the Arma 2 version.

This, I want to see more of. Excellent points. *Dons flak jacket* The community can and will make all the special features that make spec ops missions cool, just look at ACE and SLX. The BIS bit (as usual: IMO) has to cater for the core aspects of infantry warfare, not warfare specific to Iraq/Afghan style COIN, but more regular symmetrical warfare. And we need all the related aspects simulated too. For example, if mortars can become as much a part of regular Arma warfare as heavy machine guns, then we need an AI that can react properly to mortar fire. I don't just mean counter-battery fire, I mean literally legging it and hugging the dirt, perhaps even running for the hills. As opposed to the current system of stop, slowly turn to observe your squad mates being exploded by death from above, carry on as before. FLIR and AN/PEQ are prime examples where something cool is added without the AI being able to handle it.

TvT ≈ PvP Back to BF3 vs Arma3...

Ease up guys, I like to think I could ask for some honest opinions before buying a game. To see if you like it. You can always take it back. But it is different to every other military game out there, you won't find any "clones" of Arma. You also get out of it what you put in. If you've got the patience to play around with the editor, download some user made content and missions, or even join a multiplayer squad, Arma will blow you away. Be warned though, Arma isn't a fast food game. If you just want to spend 10 minutes killing some time, you wont see an Arma game's full potential. EDIT: Sorry, just realised this is in the Arma 3 section. The same should still apply, but it's really anyone's guess. :p

It takes some form of skill to fly well, that's the important part. How long can you go in a game without wasting a chopper? Minutes? Hours? Weeks? It's very easy for a new player to overcook a landing and clip a tree line, and at the same time it takes a lot of focus to land perfectly in a tight spot, often under fire, time and time again. I expect the flight model will be improved, as it has with every previous BIS game, especially with ToH now in production. But that's offtopic, we're supposed to be whining about the whiners aren't we? -
Something big has definitely taking place, otherwise NATO wouldn't be on the brink of being "pushed into the sea". Interesting that there's been no real mention of Russia yet. The specific mentioning of penicillin and laser technology in the ARG has led me to believe there's more to Lemnos than just its "strategic location".

I hope the suggestions and requests keep coming in. I thought the submarine thread was hilarious. :D Although agreed that those that demand should be shot on sight.
