thx for your feedback Dslyecxi but you wrote it yourself "This is not to say that A2 offers flawless movement" and i would really like to share your opinion about ongoing improvement till end of may. control is everything, in games and everywhere else and btw, also in coop

i really like the way you wrote it and as you haven't found anything about those issues, you gave youself the answer. you will not find any comments from BIS due the fact, that they'll not change the important anim's (i call it bugs). there will be some minor improvements but you will not have such a fluently gameplay like used in bf, cod, cs, aa, ofp1 and propably 2 which will again destroy the whole pvp community. i really recommend to check the demo first before upgrading your pc or buy anything. at least we'll have another war sim at hand this time because i hate not responsive controls in all kind of games or such control restrictions. i'ld rather have micro controls instead of micro ai's :butbut:

One question that MANY fans care about.
guerilla -MCY- replied to CyDoN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
somehow it's funny how the same discussion goes on 'n on since years without a comment by BIS. well no comment is also a comment. i just checked the latest demo vids by some Hungarian ArmA 2 Preview and i'm still seeing the same controls. it seems like moving over a pdf file with the hand sign instead of having this old ofp1985 feeling, to be in the action. i guess we have to bare in mind, that this same engine is used for vbs, where those control bugs (i call it so, sorry) seem to be wished for a proper sim, even doh you should be able to take full control over your equipment with experience, what's actually not possible like in arma1 and arma2 as it looks. well actually i don't care anymore as i gonna buy both games anyway and i guess i'll end up in ofp2 as they try make a game simulating war instead of a simulator which simulates a game -> fun?. -
just found some pics, don't know if they're new: http://www.pcgames.de/aid,668....chienen edit: damn, those are the one on www.arma2.com, anyway...

Inside ArmA2 with Jerry Hopper & Lord. J.Kingsley
guerilla -MCY- replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hi, my name is Marek Q: OFP had a big ctf community thanks to the fast handling of weapons and animation reaction time. ArmA made this kind of gameplay impossible due the realistic soldier animations. In all those previews we've seen the same animations. Are there plans to make it easier and to gain back the fast paced players ? -
Creating custom unit animations in ArmA
guerilla -MCY- replied to chris330's topic in ARMA : CONFIGS AND SCRIPTING (addons)
Would be nice to know if your effort can be transmitted to ArmA2, so far the animations are looking the same in the preAlpha vid's of ArmA2 -

well if you're into ctf / dm and you're confronted each 2 seconds with it, you would see it in another perspective -
Infantry animation & viewpoint relationship
guerilla -MCY- replied to chris330's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
those broken uberrealistic (wearing 100 pounds, even as tankdriver with a mp5) animations are a very big issue for a lota people. All of my buddies stoped playing arma because of it and as we already have seen the arma2 vid's with the same animations and bugs, it seems the problem is gonna find his way into arma2. if you would repair this, you would be a genius, at least for the rather fast paced players which like a responsive animation but as mentioned, i think too, that only BIS could change this fact but i guess they like it as it is, as they never mentioned anything about this issue, even doh so much ppl compainted about it since the first day. In my opinion you need to start from the scratch without headtracking, gunmovement, sometimes less is more. you can rent the http://www.motioncapture.cz/ good luck  -
i still see the same soldier anim bugs from arma1, jumping crosshair, endless unnatural transitions etc etc. everything was changed except the greatest bug in my eyes causing 95% of the ofp pvp com. to leave in the first place. i hope they change it but i doubt it really. good luck with it...

Why are most pvp players laughable at best in arma
guerilla -MCY- replied to Migel's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
Most of the people playing "professional" left short after the launch of ArmA, because those animation movements don't allow you to become good or get better. When the the kill & death is decided by the animations, 1 step more or less with a weird movement of your gun, instead of the skill of a player, people will leave and seek for rather competitive games like cod4, cs, bf2 etc. As ArmA don't allow you such things like OFP1 did, you don't find any competitive leagues, therefore no clans in train for such a reason and that's the reason aswell, why you will not find a lot server following the way you like it. -

Add mods to missions like Evolution
guerilla -MCY- replied to subs17's topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
the guys at GWL are having already a nice addon compilation. You could use their GWL Addon Pack to remix Evolution and post it on their site in the map forum: http://www.globalwarleague.org/viewforum.php?f=16 http://www.globalwarleague.org/ -
Add mods to missions like Evolution
guerilla -MCY- replied to subs17's topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
its really not that hard to do, if you just wanna change addons like soldiers, vehicles, aircrafts. not even 1 hour work i guess. the big part would be to collect all needed 'n balanced addons. somehow i hoped kiljoy, the evolution maper would go for that job, propably with other maps aswell. there's so much good unused stuff out there it makes me -

damn, i was about to write the same about ANIMATIONS They're still the same, i can see that even through my laging bussines pc (0.3fps on youtube), i hoped they cut this anoying feature and let the vbs guys play with the 200 pounds overrealistic feeling. as mentioned, they wanna stay overrealistic but without me 8p

So can anyone tell me why everyone is playing coop
guerilla -MCY- replied to Tigran's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
fact is that cs along with other fps games have really alota players and that's the difference here. ofp had also a healthy playerpot over years due being compatible for all kind of gameplays. now it seems that nothink really fits except coop with minor or for some others major problems like the bridges and the "so called" stupid ai's, where i can't agree as i haven't saw anythink better out there except scripted stuff. BIS made ArmA what the coop community wished for. its big with over 100 ai's, graphics are fine and you can shoot bullets. but what actually happend is the massive lost of trusted members in every sector, specialy allmost the whole PvP community and i see still ppl bashing the arcade, cs nooby fast paced simulator versus real human enemies gamestyle without getting the point. who would get hurted if arma would have appealed to a bigger market. more players, more money, more servers, more games, more ArmA3 or simply better for all. i for myself would be even more happy if they would stop working on 1.09b and invest all their empl. resources on ArmA2 and learn from their PvP faults. the old idee of free movement needs to be redefined in the basic controls... -
So can anyone tell me why everyone is playing coop
guerilla -MCY- replied to Tigran's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
This stuff was discussed over and over in the past year leading to nowhere. ArmA wasn’t designed for CQB at all, BIS seemed to have only big landscapes and the coop community in mind while creating ArmA, leading to the fact that there is no room for the once big CQB community. You guys should get over it and move on to games suited for such kind of gameplay like Cod4 etc. There are no moders who can change the whole anims, ballistics, tracers, bugs except BIS and they are working on ArmA2 hopefully with this in mind, but i doubt it. Remember, this is ArmA not OFP and its just a cookie for the sim/coop freaks… -
well if you played ofp over 4 years like me, i guess you have to buy it, even just out of respect for BIS and their work. i stopped playing ArmA due lack of fast paced gamestyles like dm/ctf/tdm etc and unresponsive controls and animation which wasn't the case with ofp 1.96. as for bigger maps like cti/c&h/coops, there is alota fun with arma and cti got overrun by a map called evolution playing a huge coop vs 1000 of ai's over the whole island. ai's are better than in ofp, but nothink special. i think the graphics are awsome, that's out of question, but eyecandy was never the reason to play ofp over 4 years in the old community and you really need a high end system to enjoy it. remember, its a gapfiller between ofp and ofp2(ArmA2) and that's just my opinion
-
i stoped playing arma since COD4, UT3 and Crysis, so i just checked it without big hopes. as for me it looks worse now and the overall control feeling, is still the same and not suited for any kind of cqb, which should be the basic of all shooter games. the trees look really worse from far while the fps isn't really better but i never cared anyway with my OC'd 8800GTX. The sky is flickering a little bit from blue to black than i got shot and it started to lag while under fire. -> Alt & F4 - cya in arma2...
-
@binkster can't say it better than you, you're damn right here
-
ofp was an overall good game, PvP and Coop maps had their balance, now with arma and the good looking but broken controls and anims, PvP is as good as destroyed leading all cheaters into coop maps, making them a pain aswell. everythink else is mostly true in this topic in my opinion but this random control feel of yourself ingame makes it half broken to me and seeing the same anim's still in use with arma2 doesn't gives me confidents for the future...

I left cz with 3 years, so i don't understand alot, so pls bare in mind neither CZ nor US is my common language, so i really meight miss important stuff or translate it wrong, feel free to correct me. here's what i think understood so far... - you can comand around 100 ai and send them to 1 target - better shader for dynamik lightning (Shader 3.0) - dynamic shadows, really real light - shooting with every weapon out of vehicles (not sure here) - better swimming, twice as much soldier movements (not sure) than they talk alot about the advantages of DX10 and Shader 3.0 i guess, thinks like photorealistic texture, bump maping and how good it looks. 4 campaigns - 1 linear (i guess they mean straight) - 1 free (RPG?) - 1 total free (take a side and go to war) - 1 Multyplayer campaign (a dream comes true here) Than somethink about importing the 3D VBS Editor and demolitation of houses with and without interior, they got 1 house working so far. The nice view's on Chernarus, falling leaves in the forest, railway for trains with some trains but only for war feeling (not working). The author says the he can see the better AI handling cover and comunication in towns and on the field. About 10 GB files (several DVD disks) for ARMA 2 Converting for XBOX360 with autoaim till 12/2008. and on the 3th interview i see following: no dynamik destruction model like wished but somethink similar like shot a hole in a house and enter it, also possible for AI's. AI is gonna hide behind walls, pillows, trashcans, autos with surpressing fire and granates while flanking you somehow. animation for entering and leaving vehicles. numeric position in vehicles can be chosen by assigning ai to a vehicle like gunner instead of driver (without the menu 4 - 2 - 4), no animal (cow) hunting just a bunny because its possible to stream it in and let it disapear. not only fight mission in the campaign, there are also missions like going to dring a beer after the shift, tee cooking with friends, going to search somethink for someone etc. here i accidently deleted this text, gave up, but i could retrieve it with Mozilla - DX10 - the grass is fat and low for better view, just better - fog looks more real - shadows, i did't understand that, so far the same as ARMA 1 - better smoke fx - better forest texture with fog on the ground etc. - beautiful object reflection if "ODLESKY" means reflection, dunno - Viewdistance stays the same as ARMA 1 as there isn't even a cpu to handle this. and more which i could'nt understand source: http://vision.sfera-software.net/?pg=267 http://saigos.blog.cz/0710/valka-dostane-nove-jmeno-arma-2 http://hry.dobryweblog.cz/136/arma-ii-preview/
