How can I make my player shut up?

Playing online, I'm trying to use Arma's VON feature with a friend. I was trying to coordinate a laser-guided strike. The problem was that while I was designating the target, my player would keep calling out targets "MAN AT 300 METERS". Meanwhile I'm trying to use VON to talk to my friend so I could guide him onto target. Of course I'm targeting a large group of infantry so my character doesn't shut up and just keeps talking for 5 minutes so me and my friend just couldn't hear each other at all. The other problem is if we're walking around and our characters start yelling out targets we can't see. Is there any way to turn this off? I can understand the AI team-mates under our control reporting what they see, but I don't want my own character talking over me. Also I hope the developers add in some way of adjusting VON volume levels as well. Often my friends come through quite softly because of their audio setups and I'd like to be able to boost them without boosting anything else in the game. If VON volume is adjusted by the Radio slider, it would be bad since the AI yells loud enough as it is.

    Shoot from moving vehicles

Hopefully this'll work in MP, though I somehow doubt it For realism it's good, but also for gameplay it's great too. When I'm riding in a truck or chopper I always feel so helpless, it'd be great to get the chance to shoot back.

    Time for Weapon Saftey!

Pressing "F" another time is not annoying, pressing "F" too many times and ending up throwing a grenade is annoying. I should only tap it once, but honestly with so many weapon selections I'm frequently overtapping the button. I'm at "safe" I get into a fight so I tap the button once to semi, then I need to toss a grenade. So I tap "F" twice. Now I need to switch back to "semi" so I need to tap it twice. Why isn't my rifle firing? What the hell, oh crap I need to tap the button one more time, I forgot I was carrying smoke. Oh crap I tapped it one too many times, I gotta cycle all the way back to "semi". It's nowhere near as complex in real life for one, you just *click* and it's safe or not safe. It'd be like requesting BIS to make a button that makes you breathe, and if you forget to press it you asphyxiate and die. I'm sure someone would love that since they want to use proper breathing techniques for marksmanship. The best solution to negligent discharges? Don't click. Hell in real life it's the same, don't pull the trigger.

    Time for Weapon Saftey!

Because it's annoying enough switching through all the options to get the one you want. I'm at "Safe" I want to toss a grenade, I have to cycle through Safe->Semi->Burst->Grenade. And what if I'm a team leader and I'm carrying smoke grenades? Safe->Semi->Burst->Grenades->Smoke(red)->Smoke(Green) As much as I like realism and all that, the easiest solution is to not fire.

will BI add a functioning AN/PEQ-2

The main use of NADs is that you can't really look down the sights of your rifle when wearing NVGs in real life so by using a laser on your rifle you can aim it without having to use your sights. In ArmA it's not that big a deal since we can use our rifles with our NVGs but if someone were to make a mod where it wouldn't be possible (Because in real life the NVGs are bulky and you can't really look through sights when you have them on) and you had to use your NAD or a rifle eqipped with a night sight then it would be useful. I'm far more interested in proper Laser designators and IR strobes myself.

Doing all the work for NADs on their own would be a bit much, but if we have something that is visible only to NVGs then we have something worth working on. Laser designators would be proper designators instead of throwing a very visible white spot on the target (who would start freaking out when their mate tells them they're painted). Likewise soldiers could use IR strobes to mark their position at night to friendlies with NVGs (Using an IR strobe at night instead of smoke in the day.) Or even use IR strobes offensively to mark enemy targets.

    Patch 1.08

I wish we still had the OFP keys. Q for crouch and Z for lying. Plus I liked that load up anyway. And to keep on topic I would love to see a performance fix. My computer Is just above the specs but I cant play the game with Very Low settings and 699 VD. Once they have fixed the performance, then they can fix the bugs. Then hopefully the game might be enjoyable. You can do this, I don't remember the exact commands, but you can set Z to prone and Q to "up". I have it set that way except instead of Q and Z I use ALT and C since Q is used to leaning now. Otherwise my control scheme is the same as OFP.

    Identifying players?

Because a tag pops up on the screen. This would only really be an issue in CQB when you see someone but you cant see the whole person, a tag would immediately pop up telling you that they're a friend.

    Identifying players?

Enabling friendly tags close up is a solution I guess, but if you're playing "realisticly" it breaks immersion a little. For me one of the most ideal solutions would be printing the soldier's name on their uniform. Because some players have long names this would be a six letter figure, either the first 6 letters of their name of perhaps some custom ID tag they can write themselves. Thats a real life solution as well since most soldiers write names on their equipment so it doesn't get mixed up, the added benefit that people can read their name off their equipment as well (webbing/armour etc). This would also make ArmA very customizable since if the game had squad patches on soldiers as well then players could customise their face, shoulder patch, and put their name on their gear. I don't know how possible it is, but it would be nice to see.

Moves speed up, anim interupts, fire, grenades

I disagree with speeding up movement , reload times etc. Firstly because soldiers in ArmA run pretty fast already. Not too fast, but about the right speed. Have you ever tried running with webbing and a rifle? Reload times are pretty ok too, how fast you reload in real life depends on how familiar you are with your weapon. The speed it is now is about right as well. While it is possible to reload on the move with assault rifles, and I have done it, the current system is more than adequete. If your squad is advancing and you need to reload, then just stay down a little longer and reload, then run a bit further to catch up. More likely than not the speed of advance is not going to be fast enough that you can't catch up. While it would be nice to be able to reload while walking, it's not a big issue for me. However the shouldering of weapons and equipping pistols/launchers is IMO a bit too slow and annoying. Slinging your rifle in real life is a very quick action and you can normally combine it with another action. For example, when slinging your assault rifle to take out your pistol, I would grab the foreend of the rifle, push it down to my side with my right hand, and take the pistol out as I bring my hand back up. In Arma your soldier instead slings his rifle muzzle pointing up. And it is really very frustrating trying to get your AT4 out since your soldier takes a knee, and spends ages getting the AT4 out, so if you were prone and hiding you reveal yourself and are defenceless for some time. It's also pretty bad when you've just fired your AT4/RPG since the AI seems to make you a high priority target so you seldom survive long when your soldier takes his time slinging the AT4 over his back. I'm glad you can hit the prone button and your soldier drops to the ground before slinging his AT4, but it still feels rather rigid and your soldier really seems to be taking his times with these actions when under fire and bullets are flying over you.

    Identifying players?

Unless you memorise the face of another player, it's pretty impossible to identify another player when friendly tags are turned off. Obviously you can remember what their face looks like, or remember what weapon they had etc, but in a squad of men, it can be difficult identifying your friends. The only way around that I've found is to have your friend do something (like nod his head) so you can identify them in a group. But this is a rather annoying solution. This is obviously only a problem on "realistic" servers, but it would be nice if there was a setting you could enable so you could identify other players up-close. EDIT: Also, it would be nice if the image in your squad.xml could be displayed not only on vehicles but as a patch on the soldiers too, I'm sure an addon maker could do this. Like a shoulder patch or something.

    Sniping

Thanks for those figures, I'll give them a shot next time I'm fiddling with the editor. I have some experience with scripting in OFP, but frankly I have no idea whether adjusting the zero is possible. It doesn't seem like it'd be the hardest thing ever, but from my experience OFP is remarkebly flexible in some things but pretty rigid in others. If there were some way to change where the scope is aiming it might be possible to just move the crosshairs on the screen up or down depending on what the elevation is. However I have no idea if this is even possible. It would be really good to get some adjustable sights so we can improve our chances of hitting something on the first shot, without intuitively "knowing" where to aim because we use the weapon all the time. The other thing I'd love to see in ArmA, (and slightly unrelated) is shell drop on tanks and artillery and setting ranges on their guns too. It was/is great fun in RO:O firing rounds at enemy armour, trying to work out the range and observing the fall of shot.
