Eeeyooooo!, you know for me, I couldn't help but get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside whenever I heard Certa's better half exclaim, "Creating." Thanks for the effort & hence the memories! ArmA Watch ehhh? Possible to see the sides players are on & JIP the side of your choice as you simultaneously enter the game server? Okay, all I could think of at the moment... unless you can load out w/ an M136 and silenced M14 w/ mortars & under barrel 12 gauge also... not to mention anti-tunnel vision view... hmmm, I have to lay off the medz.... -PD

So far so good! I just finished up about 3 hours of non-stop multiplayer with no CTDs (I would typically have expected ~2-4 per hour of CTDs w/ my Sprocket/Softwrap download). I didn't notice any new performance (e.g., fps) issues, but then again, I haven't been documenting fps. Thank you BIS for addressing this! (eeeeyoooo Scatter... -PD)

Hmmm, I took off some time from the forums to get divorced... now I can play OFP guilt-free! Uhhhh, I credit this "trick" to Agent... if you get a yellow or red square, alt-tab out to desktop, open up "Network Connections" (or the like), right click "Local Area connection" & select "Repair"... that may either restore your OFP connection or at least prevent you from getting dropped from the Internet...

Hi again, I'm runnin' Win XP Pro (ver 2002, SP1).
-
Toadlife, thanks for the suggestion. I just got done running a full scan with Stinger... but there's no Trojans. I'll run some other detection software just in case, but perhaps it's back to the drawing board? (I did raise OFP CPU priority, but still haven't "managed" my addons, yet.)

Don't upset the brits! Â LMAO! -PD

Though lack of response may lead you to believe as such, you and I are not the only ones with this issue. Â If you have some time, do a forum search for "losing connection" under OFP/Troubleshooting and you'll see a similarly described problem... but typically one step removed from a full disconnection from the Internet. In short, I definitlely have issues with getting dropped from servers (but usually not from the Internet) when playing from 2 PC's on my LAN to the WAN (I'm behind a LinkSys BEFSR41 ver2 router and a Motorola SB4100 Surfboard cable/DSL modem using a Comcast cable connection). Â Infrequently though, I experience exactly what you describe (even with using only 1 PC to a WAN server). Â Can you comment on your hardware? Â I've heard one possible fix may be to upgrade to the newer DOCSIS 2.0 modems and/or perhaps you can try better management of your addons (perhaps using Certa's OFP Watch & autoaddon management, obtainable from-http://www.binarybone.com/ofpwatch/. Â I haven't gotten around to addon managing yet myself, but I plan to do this today. Â (BTW, I've experienced this lost of Internet connection with vers. 1.92, 1.93, & 1.94.) Maybe we'll get this handled by the time OFP2 is released?

Shmuch, just play RTS3 and allll will be forgiven...
-
Astroglide?, PD?.... surely there's some erroneous issues here! Ok, I admit, PD did very eloquently comment about RTS elsewhere, so like with Apple, I simply borrowed his comments... besides, RTS is an obvious extension of my AOE! As a consolation, I promise to send you two, Schmuck & KaRRiLLioN, free demo versions of IntelliType 5.0 if you can keep a lid on this.

I've been videogaming since Pong... OFP, with its multiple features, has been my choice for 90%+ of multiplay for the past 2 years. KaRRiLLiON's RTS mods have been the proverbial icing on the most excellent cake! When RTS was 1st introduced for OFP... it blew me away! (I do enjoy RTS games such as AOE and C&C, but in 3D from FPS perspective, OFP/RTS is simply mind-boggling.) I've played every version of RTS (not to mention early versions of Animal's Purchasing Power... which was challenging, if not intriguing with it's high fuel consumption rate for vehicles...); each successive RTS version has been made easier and more balanced than ever... not to mention more intuitive to play (i.e., nOObs, come on down!- GUI interfaces galore!). True, it's unfortunate that OFP doesn't support join in progress, since RTS matches can be 'long' (typically 1-2 hr, though I've gone 6+), but using ASE or better yet, OFP Watch eliminates the guesswork in when to join up.

Has anyone with the newer DOCSIS 2.0 modems experienced "losing connection," esp. when playing with 2 or more players on a LAN to a WAN server? Â (Upgrading modem has been a suggested fix for this issue...) Note: I've changed my RWIN value to several settings (as suggested by DSL Reports...) on both LAN PC's and have not noticed any improvement.
-
Shadow Killer, thanks for the suggestion. Â I 1st checked with a networking buddy & he wrote: "I dont think that will fix it. Â The TCP recieve window is how many TCP packets will get set before an ACK. Â This is good for fitting more data packets in the pipe, for downloads, (which use TCP). Â But wont help us on these games that use UDP as the transport. Â They even say it on the page at www.dslreports.com" Of course I tried it anyway (used DSL Report suggested, 20440, & 10220 as separate settings for TCP receive window for both PC's on my LAN)... no luck... I plan to participate in net logging tests as offered by BIS; more later? -PsychoDad

Hay Killa_B, not sure if you're one of the Killa's that sometimes plays on KaRRiLLioN's Boot Camp OFP server (209.193.133.66), but I play there almost exclusively under the alias "PsychoDad." Â Sure does sound like we have the same issue... you don't happen to use a certain Win XP only registry entry (2KTCP32K.REG) cable tweek that "Allows receipt of larger packets of info., may not work with all 'Net protocols..." Â Anyway, I read, but don't recall where, in OFP forums that router's don't appear to be responsible for this disconnect issue (also know a player with same issue using a Netgear router)... Â Note: funny, my kid & I have not observed what happens if we simultaneously play on different servers (will have to check that some day very soon). ******************************* Suma: it's an honor to hear from you!, I've been video gaming since Pong and can honestly say OFP is the absolute best all around experience that I could of ever hoped for in a video game! Â (First time I've had excess space on my hard drive since I don't take the time to load anything else... Bless you!, & my wife for her "understanding"... Â Here's my feeble attempt to answer your questions: 1) We play from our LAN to WAN using a cable connection (ISP is Comcast.net) to KaRRiLLioN's T-1 server. 2) Our firewall(s)-the BEFSR41 v2 router built-in (note, forwarding RES port 2302 &/or 2234 for both PC's didn't help disconnect problem; nor did opening DMZ host for 1 PC); built-in Win XP firewall on both PC's? (I don't recall ever changing the default setting for this); also Zone Alarm on my kid's PC (regardless, we had disconnect issues a long time ago with different PC's, with same router but back then, I ran Win Me & kid ran Win '98 SE... neither had Zone Alarm at the time) KaRR's T-1 server firewall is a Cisco Pix (model #?), however, disconnect problems occurred before that firewall was in place Other questions: I am pretty sure this disconnect issue occurred all they back to Cold War Crisis, ver. 1.46 and possibly before. Â (I know this since I didn't have RES for my kid until just recently when I got him GOTY...); I will see if I can get this connection loss crash to be more reproducible, for now, it is typically about 20 min into a multiplay match (where one drops and then the other), but sometimes, we make it through a 30-60 min map to then crash in the next, other times, only 1 drops out; we have applied 1.92 beta, and still experience crashing, but I was able to restore my addons & the original O.PBO ; rarely, one of us gets the red square and when it disappears, either one or both of us are still in the game (as ghosts...). Recently tried testing: 1) I modified flashpoint.cfg on both PC's as you suggested, latter code looks like: --------------------------------- Light_Static=1; Frame_Rate_Pref=500; Quality_Pref=500; refresh=75; class Sockets { rcvBufSize=10000; maxPacketSize=1490; }; ---------------------------------- 2) On 1st night, I played on KaRR's server with other PC also connected to game (but no one actively playing on that PC),worked great, no disconnects for the 4-5+ maps played, 3) Unfortunately, last 2 nights, both of us connected to KaRR's server has resulted in crashing typically 12-20 min into 1st map (even the stock map, "Paintball") played after rejoining; also seems to be a 50% higher incidence of ghosting, 4) KaRR informs that he forwards ports 2302-2304 for RES on his firewall, I have left those ports forwarded for both PC's during all these latter trials I will work at making the crash as predictable as possible and be grateful to try anything else that you suggest! BTW, Silvia Saint forever!...

Just purchased OFP-GOTY so my kid could join me (& my older OFP/OFP-RES retail install) for WAN play from our LAN (behind LinkSYS BEFSR41 v. 2 cable/DSL router). Â Typically, about 20 min into gameplay, we both get dropped due to the disconnection "issue." Â We both play using >1.8 GHz P4, 1 GB RAM, Win XP SP1, xlnt vid cards PC's (OFP ver. 1.91) sharing a cable connection (note, no problems doing MP over 'net with Q2, Q3, MOH's, BF1942, RTCW, SWJK2, MCM2...) Didn't read all of the posts (thanks to all anyway), but here's what we've tried w/o success: 1) alt-tab, IE (&/or leave open IE) 'tricks' 2) playing stock maps (no addons); but didn't bother trying removing unofficial addons in codemasters/OFP/addons beforehand 3) setting CPU pref. to Background Services 4) forwarding OFP/RES ports (for both PC's) &/or opening DMZ (for 1 PC) of router 5) praying profusely to our Voodoo dolls Note: except for the infrequent disconnection (which occured more during the laggy days of ver. 1.85 or so), there's no routine disconnection problems playing MP using only 1 PC; also, playing MP with our 2 PC's over our LAN works fine... Like others, hoping that this is something that BIS will address in patch 1.92.

Eyoooooo!, Hay, Holme.... Guess you fixed this by now, but perhaps the cursed Logitech "Webwheel" applet launchs if you inadvertantly press too hard whilst rotatating the mouse wheel? L8
