Hi there! I've read a little bit in the mod-forum and would like to know what "update" I need to make OFP better and more realistic. I've read about ecp and wargames but what I would like to know: Do they work with the original missions and campaigns made by BIS? Do they work with user-missions already done? I'm not into editing so I just want to play the game with all these new effects (rotor wash, better looking explosions, better sounds, what do I know ...;-) ) without having to change any configs or scripts or whatever. Thx for help, -Vic-

Thank you for your help! I'll try this! :-) Ciao, -Vic- -
Hi there! I was one of the first who bought the original OFP, bought and played both official expansions, SP only. But after a pause I'm feeling like an total newbie when looking at this Mod-Forum. I've tried reading the thread about "ECP" (Enhanced configuration project) but it was really difficult to understand. Synonyms like GMR, BAS, DR, wss, CWC, COC, AEC, DTA, INQ, WRT, OPFOR, DKM/VIT, AEC, ... I've never before used user-made addons and mods and I'm feeling really dumb. Some may be user-names, others shortcuts ... but I'm afraid I would have to invest hours into the searchfunction to understand all this. Not even Avon Ladys great OFP-FAQ could help me there. If I'm not the only one with this problem, perhaps a sticky list with often used keywords, some explanations and perhaps links would be a great idea? Also a list of the most common mods would be nice. Again with explanations and links. Especially Mods that not only contain new vehicles, weapons or maps but that add functionality to the original OFP - like ECP or COC. If such a lists doesn't already exists and I'm not the only one who misses them it would be great if some "insiders" could discuss this idea. Thank you, -Vic- P.S. sorry for the bad english!

@Norsu and Skulleye Thanks for your tips - I'll try those! :-) Bye, -Vic-

Wow - there's really a lot of stuff concerning all these user made Addons and Modifications! Now I see where some of these tags come from and have to admit that my initial question sounds a little bit stupid. I 've just found OFPNews and it looks like I should reinstall OFP (after finishing H&D2) and start playing a whole new game. Also I had a look at the new screenshot thread and there are a lot of pretty pictures in there where it's really difficult to believe that this is just the old OFP with usermods! Now all I'm looking for are good singleplayer missions (or even campaigns) with all those new islands, vehicles and modifications. Can someone give me a hint what's worth looking at and easy to install? Thanks, -Vic-

Hey! You know what irritates me?! What does CGN stand for?! Hihi ... CGN stands for Cologne, a City in Germany close to where I live! It's used at the airport ... Bye, -Vic-

Wow - so many fast answers, great! :-) Thank you all alot! So, placebo, what about a sticky OFP-Lexicon? I would try to contribute too - as far as my little knowledge goes. Bye, -Vic-

Thanks Sven - you'll get a pm soon! :-) I was away from OFP for about 1 year but even longer I haven't read the forum here. Coma seems to be the right expression ... I'm a "Falcon 4" fan and I feel like these people who just discover all the user-made mods like SuperPak, FreeFalcon, BMS, ... So please excuse me - I have to write a pm now! ;-) Bye, -Vic-

Hi there! I have a suggestion: I really liked the "peeking"-function in Vietcong. If you were behind a rock or a fallen tree for example when you pressed the right mousebutton, you went up just so far that you could aim your weapon over this object. This way it didn't really matter how high the object was and it worked while prone or lying down. This would be especially great if BIS get rid of the clipping-problem in houses and so on. There you could use this function to hide behind windows etc.! Bye, -Vic- P.S. Sorry for the bad english but I hope you get what I mean

Hi there! I have big problems with the mission "Trap" in Resistance. I kill the two tanks coming up the road with satchels - no prob. But then I have to attack the city and I don't know how to get this done and survive. At the place that's marked with "Tanks & Resupplies" on the map I have only a lousy T55 and that's it. So, if I get to close to the city some guys with RPG's end my life. If I try to attack on foot the sheer mass of enemies finish me and my guys off really fast. To make frustration perfect, there are these three tanks coming in from north after a while. If I call for help via the radio both tank-groups get killed rather fast. So - has anyone a good tip how to attack and survive? Thanks a lot, -Vic-

Hi there! Big thanks to both of you, I'll try what you suggested. Bye, -Vic-

That's a great idea and coupled with a even better AI just what I often missed. For example, the mission in OFP Resistance where you have to destroy all helicopters at an airport I wished to split up my team in two or three, tell their leaders to move to different locations of the airport, hide themselves, watch and wait for my signal to attack. The signal I have to tell him - it could be a radio call if all leaders have an radio, or a flare or if the distance isn't to great, a handsign or something ... And when everyone is in place I would assign them targets or - better - a target area and then all hell would break loose when I give the command: "Go! Go! Go!" :-) It would even be a nice idea to set priorities for the AI: Destroy the helicopters in your area, no matter what happens! The AI-Commander would now assign single targets to his men like they do it already in OFP ... The biggest problem is IMHO to code the AI and to make the handling as intuitive as possible while you have to be able to give all important commands. The AI must be very good because they have to find themselves a way from A to B without being discovered (if I tell them so), they have to hide while they have to keep an eye on the target ... and so on. Peeking over rocks, through windows etc.
Vicente_cgn replied to Vicente_cgn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
No, that's not what I mean. You've never played Vietcong, right? Of course you have your limits while lying down. You could only peek over objects that aren't too high for your current position. The problem with going prone you can see in the actual OFP. The windows are just a little bit too high if you want to stay in cover while aiming out of them. This problem you wouldn't have with the technique I described. To make the prone-position usefull, every object you want to peek over while in prone-position has to have the same heigth, doesn't matter if it's a rock, a tree or a window. That's not really realistic, right? So, a flexible peek-over function depending on the position you're in would be nice ... Bye, -Vic- -
Hey, I'm the first to post an answer to this "groundbreaking" news! That is really great news, thank you telling us what we wanted to hear for such a long time! Now all the speculations about the theatre can go on ... I just hope, BI will not only focus on MP because OFP was one of the best singleplayer-games ever! Sure - today a lot of people demand on a good MP part but for some of us SP is still very important! Again, thank you very much! -Vic-

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Don't you think weapons like bazookas, tanks, etc would rule this game if you didn't have to aim above the target for targets that are relatively close? Because these weapons, vehicles, etc are so hard to hit stuff with this game won't become one of those bazooka only games. Â The fact that your rocket drops really fast is pretty good actually... Â It encourages ppl to fight with guns instead of rockets. Â <span id='postcolor'> Hehe, that's a funny argument - but you're not serious with this, are you? Â I mean - Bazookas shouldn't be the non-plus-ultra weapon - otherwise they're completely wrong modelled! For example you can't carry lot's of rockets with you, right? Three shoots and you're out of ammo! Reloading them takes some time, too! Further, you have to get into a good, stable position to aim and fire! You can't just fire them while running, you have to kneel down! This makes you an easy target because you can't just hit-and-run with a bazooka, right? All this things you have to calculate before you use a bazooka in OFP and because of that it really depends on the kind of mission which weapon you use! You would never shoot with a rocket at people as long as you still have a alternative! That's why I like OFP and why I don't like BF1942! Bye, -Vic-

What a great idea! I came up with something similar when I read the statement "Resistance - what's next?" in another thread! I was thinking of all the addons, campaigns and missions I don't know anything about and about the people who tried them already! So why not try to do some reviews? Of course real reviews take some time! You have to play the whole mission, or if reviewing a campaign, at least the first 2-3 missions and you have to try to be objective while writing what's good and what's not! But if there are people out there who like this idea and have time I would suggest, that they could send the reviews to you and you make them public on your website. No? Perhaps one could specify several things that have to be in a review: - the storyline (if there's one) - the role of the player (commander of troops, pilot, ...) - kind of mission (are there only lot's of enemies to shot?, do you need a special plan to get out of this alive?, are certain tactics recommended?) - what's the hardware specs of the reviewer - which version of OFP is the reviewer using? - which AddOns do I need (and where can I find them?) - is the mission/campaign stable? Any bugs discovered? - if possible, name and emailadress of the mission-author - if possible, name and emailadress of the reviewer Add to this the possibility for others to comment an review and everything would be perfect! As I said, it would be hard work and only few people have the time to do this but I'm sure it would help OFP to keep a big fanbase! :-) What do you think? Greez, -Vic-

For me, OFP isn't dead at all! I'm a sworn single-player - I don't like the idea of multiplayer at all and so there's nothing comparable to the "OFP-Experience" â„¢ Â for me! Just yesterday I continued OFP:R after a little pausing (had to play Mafia from one end to the other) and again I was amazed how fast this game sucked me in with it's great atmosphere . Of course I'll hope that there's a "OFP 2" on the horizon with better graphics (just look at the processorpower now and when OFP came out! There's much more possible today.) but I think, OFP in it's first version is a great game too that doesn't leave too many whishes open for me. Just look at people who still enjoy Falcon 4 or Panzer Elite. Though their graphics and physics-engine may not be state-of-art they're still alive and kickin'! To add my two cents to the OFP/BF1942 discussion: As a single-player I was really disappointed when I realized, that the singleplayer-part of BF1942 is nothing more than a training camp for MP! The so called "singleplayer campaign" doesn't deserve it's name, the bots have only AS (Artificial Stupidity) and there's no commanding troops and strategic planning at all! I had hoped that BF1942 would replace OFP for me, but no - it shouldn't be! As a multiplayergame BF1942 will be what the players make of it! Perhaps there will be clans who try to play as realistic and strategic as possible - I'm sure, the Game hasn't to be played in "arcademode" but it all depends on the people you play with. The Future of OFP? I don't even know if there'll be OFP2 or if IL will ever see the light of day but if BIS keep on developing the idea behind OFP, it could become kind of a "standard infantry simulator" like the MS Flightsimulator! Just let hope that BIS will keep their great support with patches and so on - not like MS who tell you to buy the next version where the bugs from the former one will be removed ... Â Anyway, I want to thank BIS for their great game and support and Codemasters as a publisher for making this all possible! Bye, -Vic-

Hi there! I've used the search-function but didn't came up on a similar topic. When I'm playing as tank commander I can't lock targets that aren't marked as red. So how I'm supposed to shoot at them? Example: to tell my gunner to target the three trainig-tanks in the tanktraining mission I have to use the targeting menu and go through 4-5 pages of targets too choose a dummy-tank. That wouldn't be healthy in a real attack, wouldn't it? And something else that's strange: I placed a M1A1 and a UAZ on Desert Island. Using the TAB-Key to lock the UAZ didn't function. Using the menu doesn't work, too! I never got any answer/reaction from my crew when I ordered them directly to attack the UAZ (marking my crew with F2/F3 first). Then I got out of the tank and suddenly they answered my orders given before or attacked the UAZ on itself even if I didn't issue any commands. This situation can be recreated every time. What's wrong here? Hope my explanation isn't too confusing! BTW I'm using v1.46, don't know if I had these problems before because I haven't played tankcommander for a long time! Bye, -Vic-

Problem when playing as tank-commander
Vicente_cgn replied to Vicente_cgn's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi! No prob - I'm german, english isn't my mothertongue, too! Yes, I tried the right mousebutton! It works while using a binocular (to tell my team, that there's an enemy) but as a Tank Commander it's of no use! Perhaps I just have to do a complete reinstall ... if this doesn't help I'll be back here! Thanks and bye, -Vic-
