I do have to ask, is the Medevac HH60L still gonna be part of it, and is it still tail number 109?
I ask this because his HH60L for Arma 2 was based on the pictures and information I gave him. 109 was the aircraft my unit lost in Afghanistan in 2012, and I always thought of his model as being a tribute to that crew and helicopter.

As a long-time Sikorsky-baby who's been following this project since Quad-A in 2008, I'm really interested in seeing where you take yours.
Also, congrats on your work so far. Looks great.

I still think something set in the US, like maybe the Florida Keys would be great.

Are you using MCC?I have it. I dunno how much I use it to be honest. Is the option in there somewhere?

Difficulty options -> Camera Shake Disabled seems to remove it. Likely aircraft G-force camera shake simulation is still making the camera shake with UAV.Tickets about camera shake bugs:

And ticket about adding camera shake to game options like head bob and not in difficulty options: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=21609
The limited speed solution is likely just because there's not much g-force happening at the UAV.
Right. Well, assuming I have all that stuff disabled, how would I go about using said limited speed solution? I mean, i haven't seen the option for it. If I could, I'd like to.

It starts out in autonomous. If you uncheck the box it takes no further commands.
I don't know of a limited speed setting for the UAV, that OP somehow set.
-
How do you set UAV speed to limited? I thought it was just altitude, behavior and waypoint. This is probably the solution to stop the Darters from going off course too.
-
How about every 5 minutes there's a random chance of death, just assuming one of Australia's MANY dead critters got you? Oh, and the fire tornadoes. Add those too.
-
Is there any way to get this answered or at least even acknowledged by the devs? Arma 3 is the only thing this happens to me with. I even went through all my registry stuff and changed it.

I keep running into this problem, and a solution keeps evading me. Everything I keep seeing suggests it's a Windows 8 power management issue. But folks are saying it didn't happen before the helicopters DLC. Does the helicopters DLC somehow activate windows power management default settings, no matter what you have it set to?
I'm looking for the common factor here, trying to find a way to fix it. This is seriously a thing that needs dev attention, and not to keep getting ignored. I realize a lot of folks fly mouse and keyboard so it doesn't affect them. That's fine. I do to, when my joystick and pedals take a dump. I'd rather they not do that at all though.
Again, some dev attention on this subject would go a long way.

This probably sounds silly, but can you make a BDU variant of the AAF uniforms? They have the same cut, and even black boots as the old BDU uniforms without the shoulder pockets, knee pads, and other things. It makes it far more accurate in appearance for a 1980s/90s period game.
Also, I don't know if it's your bag, but in your next update, could you also make a 1st Cavalry Division Stetson? For my Milsim unit, it would make it just that much cooler looking.
Either way, you do good work, and I'm happy to run your stuff.

Couple small requests on my end. I haven't tried the mod yet, but I wanted to verify some stuff, and then I'll get all my buddies in on it.
I'm particularly fond of the Darter. It's been my job to operate the UAVs and vector friendlies onto bad guys. Any way you can make the darter also shoot a VISIBLE laser in addition to the laser marker, so I can point out areas of interest? Also, as part of that, is there any way to set up a kind of frequency filter for NVGs so that only friendlies can see the IR laser from their side? Applied to guys on the ground too, with the IR laser attachment.

Ooh! Do Khost Province/Salerno next!
-
I just wish they would incorporate more VBS features. Seems like if they did that, the Arma series would take off enormously.
-
VTOL would be great for improvised landing areas, not to mention the fact that aerial refuel is still a thing, as long as you have someone willing to fill in that particular support role (or even AI circling, if necessary) and an appropriate tanker.

Normally, if you're operating the UAV, your head is down working it, rather than watching your own butt. Just to be a member of the squad getting your operator's UAV view on the right side would be kinda cool. And it replaces the GPS terminal, so not EVERYBODY should have one.
-
Is there a specific UAV dev branch thread? I didn't see one, which is why I made this. Strangely, other, even more specific subjects are in this particular forum, but I guess because UAVs don't really have much bearing on how some people play, they should be entirely left out to some other thing. Personally I really enjoy working as recon, relaying info to my team, so it's why I have a vested interest in seeing them improved, and thus why I'm suggesting a review of them.
Also, no, just having the UAV terminal doesn't allow you to see what the operator sees. You have to be connected to the UAV. Only one person can be connected to a UAV at a time, though if that could change, ie: one connected to the gun on a stomper, one connected to the "driver" position, that could work too. More than that, just having one primary operator, with the others able to see, but not control is pretty much what I'm asking for.
And actually, it's very realistic. The lasers have specific frequencies which is why, in reality, not everything that can detect a laser designation or is laser guided, suddenly starts targeting that particular designated target, or in the case of laser jammers (as mounted on the latest versions of combat helicopters) start flipping out, jamming lasers, thinking they are being targeted.

I'd like to see if you guys would look more seriously into the employment of the UAV/UGVs used in the game.
It would be nice to see, if maybe the UAV operator could allow anybody in his current group to see what the UAV was seeing in the little window that pops up off to the right. That way, the operator doesn't have to rely on Teamspeak or the in-game comms to relay what information he or she is seeing. They can see it for themselves.
Additionally, maybe for some things like the Greyhawk, Darter, or even other designators attached to helicopters or vehicles, if the operator could turn on a laser that would be visible to all on one side (ie BLUFOR, OPFOR, or Independent) so an they can actually point out targets or other objects of interest to troops on the ground. Some similar setup to the weapon-mountable IR laser pointer would work. I don't mean just see the dot from the laser, but the entire beam. It would effectively be the flying finger of God. Of course, important to this is to only allow the beam to be seen by members of a side, so they can't see the source of the beam, and can't tell that they are being illuminated. Worst case, allow the laser marker to create a point on the map, with a button press at it's exact location, so that team members can mark on their own maps where the point of interest is.

Are you doing any significant flight model changes for the fixed wing birds? Vanilla A3 is about horrible for it. I know fixed wing is not really a thing Arma does well, but it's gotta be better than what it is.

I've been playing in Wasteland, whatever your opinion is of that, and one of my favorite things to do is go get a dive suit, sit underwater, and fly my UAV as a spotter for a team. The ONLY trouble I have is that it flies so slow and sometimes having it do autonomous flight, it spazzes out sometimes.
It was heartbreaking, relaying all the info to teammates, and having them still get overwhelmed after they were found by a squad in a GMG Hunter. Watching it all overhead, hearing: "He got me, I'm down" several times while being able to do nothing about it. Even though it sucked, it's those kinds of moments that I think make for good gameplay with the UAVs.
I think maybe a Firescout would be a decent addition. It's a little bigger and faster. Can potentially carry weapons, maybe a couple points for a soldier or two to latch onto. It's cool with all of these UAV/UGVs because you essentially BECOME the vehicle.

We could have the coolest ideas in the world, but without somebody that knows how to implement them, we're just jerkin off here.

Firstly, not everyone owns a TrackIR kit, so how would this work for those without one? It would essentially be a fixed turret aiming forwards due to the mouse being bound to free-look.Secondly, half a screen of PiP would look bloody terrible, even on higher settings.
Kind of abrasive, but okay, here:
I get that free-look gives the option to... look around freely. Does it totally remove the ability to have the gun move around with it, though?i get that it is pretty much a view control only, but is it also impossible to stick gun movements to it as well, at least within the elevation/traverse restrains of the gun? As in you free look to the right, the gun moves with you up until it reaches the traversal limit, then stays there until you look back to within its constraints?
Also, I wasn't aware the PiP was that bad, but I can see your reasoning. I was thinking essentially something similar to the UAV feed you can get on the right side of the screen (with default 2x Tab.) Effectively just a UAV camera you can stick right to the nose of the Apache, and move with Freelook.
Seems to me it would be the best, most faithful representation of an apache's capabilities in that regard.

about request number 1, yes, fictional helicopter. Number 2, the M777 seems awesome.3. I would also like a modified/fictional AH-1Z Viper which allows the pilot to use the optics and also control the turret gun. Currently I'm using the original HAFM US Helicopters port from Arma 2. The Viper in this pack is good enough to take out vehicles but infantry firing at the gunship (even with rifles) cause a major problem because I play in single-player only and the AI gunner is not that competent. So as vehicles can be locked, infantry on the other hand cannot be locked and this leads to a lack of situational awareness for the pilot. Having access to the optics might help.
Well, for the Apache, at least, in reality it's actually the pilot that has primary control of the gun anyways. The gunner is mostly responsible for working the Hellfires, lasing targets, etc. the gun is partially considered to be important for the safety and security of the aircraft, which makes it part of the pilot' responsibility.
Personally I'd like the pilot to be able to operate the gun (maybe with TrackIR, a context menu option to flip down the monocle, turning half the screen into a render-to-texture video feed from the PNVS?) and at the same time this is happening, the gunner has full control of the laser designator and video feed from the TADS and can shoot the Hellfires.

I'd be happy if they made it so the UAV had the ability to "touch off bombs" or even carry some C4 or a satchel itself. Fly it somewhere, land in all sneaky-like and set it off. It's got so much unused potential.

I think it would be cool if we could get maybe a guided missile UAV. I think the Israelis have something like it. Basically you can loiter, then dive it into a target. Might be kinda fun.
What I would like even more though is the ability to share a UAV video feed across the squad. One operator, but multiple people able to see the video. Makes it better than telling everybody what you see. They can see it for themselves.
Best way to relay coordinates to your team through a UAV?

I asked this on the Arma Reddit and didn’t gain much in the way of answers.
something that has always eluded me. Going onto Wasteland (or any server, for that matter) and being able to relay information to my side with the Darter, or any UAV. I’ve always liked being able to be the eye in the sky to help out, but I stumble when it comes to marking targets or places to send my buddies. Is there a way to tell them where the target is? When I’m looking through the UAV optics it’s pretty disorienting. They can’t see the laser I’m spotting with, and I can’t effectively tell them how to get somewhere. I have to guesstimate where the target is on the map, when sometimes I don’t even know what direction I’m pointing.
All the grid ref on the bottom left does, is tell me where my drone is currently hovering.
it would be nice to be able to mark a spot on the map through the UAV optics.
Any ideas?
