RE: the shortcuts What i tend to do is create a folder on my desktop where i store all the ArmA shortcuts for each Startup that i may need, this then declutters the actual desktop Ref Game size We tend to get approximatelyn 20 players per session and coop length can be anything from 30 minutes up to and over a couple of hours, so it can be very varied. Eqyuipment used tends to be anything that the mission makers feel is necessary for that mission, so again its varied There is only one way to find out if it would suit you. The biggest pain in the butt is organising yourself, addons and application to give it a go. The learning curve can be quite steep, but once you have gone through it once, you will find it much easier for the next server you will try
-
There are two parts to running addons/mods 1) to actually download the addons/mods 2)Creating a shortcut to start the game up and load the addons. For ACE Mod, you will need to adfd the following code to the end of your "Target" line in your shortcut -mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm Thats providing you have all the ACE Mod and ACE Mod extras pack

If you really want to experience Multiplayer, then you will find that a lot of servers use one of 3 additional communications applications and try wherever possible to not use the built in comms Teamspeak 2 Teamspeak 3 Beta (Lacks functionality of Channel Commander at present) Ventrilo Mumble Most if not all the ingame comms is done via these applications, each server community has their own preference as to which Comms package they use. Each comms package has pro's and cons, of which isnt really important to this thread. Although some plonker will most likely turn this thread into a X is better than Y argument But what i would advise is downloading and installing all of them and get familiar with how to set up connections to servers, that way when you join a server you ask for their connection info and quickly get online with them From a gaming community that has been running for 7 years +now, trying to command players not on our preferred comms package is a pain in the butt and as Hund said, if you arent on the Servers preferred comms application you will find yourself out of the loop, going the wrong way and firing on friendlies which wont go down too well.

The Yoma repository link has just changed to add some additional functionalitry to the Yoma Gamespy Browser It is now.... http://zeus-community.net/yas/zeus/yas2302.7z and for AlleyCat heres some easy to follow instructions Firstly download and install Yomas addon syn. Grab the latest version from here http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/yoma-addonsync2009 During the Install you may get an error message about ArmA1, this is because you probably wont have it installed You will then need to set up a desktop shortcut to start the game with the required addons 1) Make a copy of your desktop shortcut 2) Right click on the new shortcut and select "Properties" 3) select the "General" tab and where is says ArmA|| top left, edit that and replace the text with "Zeus ACEmod" 4) Now select the "Shortcut" tab and add the following text to the end of the target field -mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm;@zcommon 5) Click on Apply and then OK Once you have finished downloading your addons, you can start the game up with your new shortcut, this will load the required addons You can then filter "zeus" using the ArmA2 ingame browser, in the list of servers you will see "Zeus #1" thats the server you need to join

Hi, hope you are enjoying your ARMA2 game. If you are searching for organised coop gameplay then there are some Community Servers available to you, such as "Tactical Gamer" (runs mostly on US times) or "Zeus Gaming Community", which I represent. Check this link out: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=85268 We tend to stay away from the main stream "Gamey" missions such as Evolution, Domination etc and stick with more realistic scenarios. For comms we use Teamspeak 2 (soon to be Teamspeak 3), since it has the versatility needed for teamwork oriented missions. We use ACE mod with some additional addons because we believe it is the best package out there to achieve the best gameplay. To avoid the usual hassle with getting setup with the right addons, we have created a manual which gives you all the relevant information and tutorials in one handy package. Getting ready for the game should take no more than 30 minutes (Not including download time for the addons). Still a bit of time but better than messing around with it for days on end. We run sessions twice a week (Thursday and Sunday), so If you are around tonight, why not give us a try. If you have any questions or need some help sorting yourself out in some fashion, some of us are bound to be on teamspeak or IRC at any given time, so just drop by. Anyways, best of luck with the gaming. Sincerely, Terox PS. Our YOMA repository is being worked upon at the moment, it should be ready by approximately 16:30 UK time

Hi Yoma. I'd just like to show my appreciation for the effort you have put into this tool. We have recently started using it and Oh Boy does it make adminning and hosting a Mod/Addon server so much easier and the client side setup also hits the sweet spot of usability This type of tool belongs in the B.I engine itself and is way overdue. I would recommend every Server admin who runs anything other than BIS Vanilla to utilise this and make it a community standard. Thanks..... -
The Zeus AI are still being run on the server. Unless Protegimus advises me otherwise, we will continue to use them. I doubt very much whether BIS will have adjusted the AI to Prots settings

It seems the TS3 devs are going to add Channel, Commander functionality, or something similar I wonder if this was already intended or they saw the light after seeing the rate at which the Channel Commander thread was being added too

For those of you who dont know, the long awaited Teamspeak 3 Beta is now available. It does however lack the functionality of "Channel Commander" or anything close too it For many ArmA gaming communities this functionality is essential and therefore I think it would be prudent if those who want this functionality re-introduced would add their support to the following thread http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthread.php?t=46577&goto=newpost Just a simple I think the reasons for the request have already been pointed out on the thread so there is probably no reason to go into a lengthy explanation as to why you feel it is necessary. Please think before you post though, we dont want that thread to turn into a flame war or the TS devs will ignore it. What we want to achieve is a large amount of replies to push this issue to the forefront What we could do with this thread is put together a proposal for the Devs as to how we would like Channel commander to work in conjunction with the additional functionality, eg the multiple levels of nested channels we can now have

It's an Arma beta, try the beta patch 60819, this is reported to be the best patch for AI Here's hoping BIS realise it

We tested the addon last night on our Thursday Gaming session. I have to say the AI are the best I have ever seen going back right to OFP days We were in constant contact for nearly every mission we played, .50 cals raining fire down on us without being too accurate. Absolutely immersive. Well done Prot..

Hi Pro, as per the previous 2 posts, we need a quick fix for tomorrow nights session. I just updated ACE to the latest 1.88, they have removed the "ace_c_ai_other.pbo" RPT Error Hopefully you can get this sorted for us and I can get it on the Yoma addon sync before the gaming session starts

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta!
terox replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hi and thanks for the great effort SickBoy and the rest of the Mod Team. Re: Updating. With this in early beta stage and expecting lots of patching over the next few weeks/months and approaching this problem from a server/community administrator point of view, would you possibly consider An Official Patching Day, done on the same day every week until the speed of patching slows down somewhat. Lets say for example the patching is done every Monday evening I see several pro's to this. 1) ACE Devs would spend more time developing and less time releasing patches, updating forums etc and less likely to have fubar'd a patch that then requires a Hotfix. 2 ) Server admins only need to monitor the situation and put time aside once a week to update and inform their community. (This would also likely create a synchronised running of the same version of ACE throughout the community, apart from the odd server, which would get up to speed within say 24 4hours) 3) Clients hopping from 1 server to another would in the majority of cases find the whole affair much easier, not having to worry which version is this server running. As for the actual day, I would suggest doing it at the start off the week, not the end. This gives the Devs the entire weekend to add content/fix bugs, making a Monday Patch more Fruitful -
For those interested in running these addons ion a dedicated server, the Zeus server uses the following settings for all difficulty ranges in it's ArmA2.cfg file Protegimus's testing has been done at these values
-
This is mainly a server config issue. MINERRORTOSEND The higher the value, the greater the warping MINBANDWIDTH The higher the value, the greater the Jip Lag. The BIS Wiki entry for server configs is not 100% correct and with little detailed info given by BIS, it has become a guessing game to configure a server correctly. When questions are raised behind closed doors, the answer given is a link to the WIKI.
