    AI don`t disembark

If this is a multiplayer issue, then this bug which has been referred to as the "Local Bug" has been around since OFP v1.0 and has never been fixed. It occurs when more than 1 player is in a vehicle and one of those players has command over AI in that vehicle. Although not a fix, the work around is to prepare the "eject" action before the vehicle stops and then when the vehicle does stop, select it. Ofcourse the ideal situation is to fix one of the oldest bugs in the engine

    Multiplayer - Always "laggy"?

Warping occurs for various reasons. 1) Poor server configuration 2) Server not powerful enough to cope with the load (too many players or too many AI or badly optimised scripting or a combination of any of them) 3) Players connecting with very low bandwidth 4) Network issues.
  5. I have a vision which i would like to call the Community Addon Management system. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Obviously Yoma's addon sync goes a long way to providing this functionality, however a possibly more efficient system would be to use the rsync technology that the less user friendly Sickboy's Six Updater system uses. I am also aware that Kelly's Heroes uses some form of mirror system to spread their network load across various sites. So having started this thread off in the hope it will develop into something, I would invite anybody to comment/design/review or in any other way add constructive comments to this thread. I would specifically invite Sickboy, Yoma, Bohemia interactive and the hosts of ArmAHolics & ArmedAssault.info to air their views and any assistance they would be willing to provide in creating such a system. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread
  6. Hi m8, I run Zeus which is one of the longest established groups in the OFP/Arma community. We are an open community, no requirements for joining, no ranks etc however we do prefer our players to be on our Teamspeak server and if possible have a microphone so they can join in the banter. Our age varies from early 20's right through to our oldest player in his 50's. I am 44. Our preferred gametype is Coop with the occasional A&D I have never tried to entice anyone to play with us, but your post took my eye and we are probably the type of group you may be looking for. We are a european based server but we do have several players from your side of the Atlantic. If you fancy dropping in and having a gaming session with us, We play every Thursday and Sunday evenings with a 19:30hrs kickoff finishing around midnight. (UK times) We run ACE Mod and an additional addon pack. All the information you will need to organise yourself to play with us, (for example setting up your addons, and teamspeak application) can be found in our ZeusCommunity Manual.pdf If you need any additional help, log onto our teamspeak server and you will find either myself or a number of other memebrs who will try and help you out.
  7. Probably a better solution is for each community server to have its own "Info" page which lists the type, of information that I am trying to offer. That way they can update it as and when they want too and all i need to do is have a URL link to that page. So maybe what we actually need here is a html template file that they can upload and fill in the blanks
  8. Ah right, now i understand and agree. Due to my lack of technical expertise it would take me too long to implement this on a website. I could add an attachment to the document, this would reduce loading time or I can optimise the document which would reduce the filesize. I'll try that on the next update (Today at some point). The problem with having the list elsewhere detracts from the "All in once place" aim of the document. What solution would you suggest ? I could add a small section pointing to guides and helpful websites.
  9. This is voice recognition to control AI? Its not exactly for the newcomer, but it would probably be worthy for addition
  10. I'm not sure i know what you mean? The Server directory consists of information given to me by the Admins of those servers, inclusive of their Website address. Could you explain this in depth ? Yes I have your PM, I'll add that info on the next update m8. What I will do is point to the League Page in the wiki and add a small paragraph about it.
  11. Not sure if that would be relevant to this document. Once the newcomer has found a suitable "Home" to regularly play on, wouldnt those community members then offer him a place in their league games? A central listing for competition leagues would be a good idea though

    session time out problem

Possibles: Patch 1.05 has a hotfix, Grab it here http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1522848&postcount=2 This can cause problems when trying to connect to servers. Was message you got when trying to connect to a server pointing to you having deleted files that the server requires you to have? If this is the case, then it would appear you are trying to connect to a server that is running addons that you do not have. (Check this link out Newcomers guide to multiplayer if that is the case. A green light by the side of a server name in the gamespy browser seems to define that You have the same version of the game as the server if equalmodrequired is implemented, you have the same setup as the server if signature verification is switched on, you have not loaded any additional addons that the server does not have keys for What a green light does not indicate is that you have the addons required by the server. if this does not solve the solution, could you please post a screenshot of the error message or type the message in the post please
  13. Thanks for all the support and encouragement I am getting, which will motivate me to add content to this document. The mods are understandably very reserved at creating sticky's from threads. If however this thread continues to develop in this way and some of the posts add additional content to the thread then it may very well serve the community better as a sticky. As you can see from the document as it exists today, I need to add tutorials for Six updater (seems to be the priority) Ventrillo, Mumble TS3 I would also like to include a section on Fraps Playclaw The latter has Ventrilo/Teamspeak overlays and much more. Some of the information contained within the document is available on the Wiki, but for some reason newcomers dont seem to find it
  14. Nested addaction system Includes artillery and will have additional subsystems http://www.zeus-community.net/important/zeu_addaction_sys_small.jpg
  15. I agree, lack of foresight on my side. I have asked a mod to edit the thread title, here's hoping :-) I am glad you are finding this of use. I wrote it because i felt it was long overdue ref: A manual for controlling AI. I dont have plans for doing a manual for that in the short term, maybe when it gets more evolved I may add a Controlling AI section ? You may however find this of use http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=92991 Maybe when Walker has settled into his training sessions, he may run one for controlling AI

    Training Day

As far as I am aware, there has been poitiions reserved for all those that have posted in this thread and therefore should be no problem at all. Ref the useage of 3rd party islands, the server that has been set up for this runs BIS vanilla which was an intentional decision to make it easier for newcomers to connect (e.g not having to download and setup addons)

    Can't Connect to Servers

what happens if you try and run the 1.05 patch again, does it allow you to install it ? You may first need to uninstall Battleye

That question is answered in ArmA2 MP Guide linked to on this thread http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=93078 under the "Find Servers\Gamespy Browser" section
  20. Duplicated post please see this thread It links to a newcomers guide to multiplayer. It explains mods, addons, yoma's addon sync and much more http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=93078
  21. I think BIS should get their butt into gear and add this functionality into the engine The best solution would be a combo of Both Yoma's and sickboy's with a centralised listing on a site such as OFPECS with the biggest Red arrow pointing to it on every forum site within the community, including BIS's so that the newcomers to MP gaming dont get the continous headaches that this lack of engine functionality creates We use six updater to get the server synced to the latest version of ACE and we use Yoma's to offer the complete mod package to our users, which in addition to ACE also includes our custom addon packs, such as islands etc This we find is the most user friendly system to our members so they actually have the addons required to play on the server Six is created by an extrememly competent and technically adept individual (Namely Sickboy), however like many more applications done by technically brilliant people, their creations tend not to be as friendly to the less computer literate, as far too much expectation is placed upon those individuals. The whole aim of such applications is to make it easier for those individuals who do not know or understand the applications ability to use it and therefore any such application has to be designed to be used at the lowest user level of competence. Within ArmA2 thats pretty damned low

There is defintely an issue with newcomers to BI Multiplayer gaming and BI themselves dont seem to have a full grasp of the situation. I have been running a BI game server for 7 years, maybe a little longer and have supported users to our community as best as I can, although I do tend to nag at them when they ask questions that I have already explained in documentation. The BI documentation is mostly on the BIKI or spread out amongst various threads and unless you know where to look, it isnt very obvious. So....... To try and get round this issue, this is what I propose we need 1) A .pdf document, all nicely indexed, lots of pictures, tutorials FAQ etc lets call it "ArmA2 Multiplayer Guide Book" 2) Create a "Welcome to BI Multiplayer" thread in these forums and have the mods make it a sticky. 3) Add a little bit of content to that thread and a download link for the "ArmA2 Multiplayer Guide Book" The PDF itself would have content such as 1) A download centre, with links to Ventrilo Teamspeak Mumble Yoma's addon sync Dyslexi's manual [*]2) Tutorials for how to install these applications and how to create connnections to the comms servers [*]3) Connection information for the more open community servers that want their information listing in the document [*]4) A URL List for the more important sites such as Biki Armaholics .Info Ofpec [*]5) A tutorial on how to install addons/mods and create custom shortcuts to load these folders [*]6) A small section on how one should behave on somebody's server, pointing out the fact that they are afterall a guest and have no privileges as such [*]7) A small section on the Gamespy browser, explaining what the various symbols mean [*]8) A section on why you may not be able to connect to a server, eg Custom filesize, equalmodrequired, signature verification, missing required addons etc [*]8) A section on the types of missions and gametypes available, where to find coop play, pvp play etc and I am sure much more content and tutorials too. Now the most important concept to make this work would be to keep the thread clean of SPAM. The type of posts that would corrupt the thread are Thanks or Really Helpful type comments, as all this does is create pages of non constructive content. The type of posts you do want is additional information, links tutorials which can then be added to the PDF, keeping it updated. The thread has to be made a sticky to work though. I have actually started towork on such a document, but could really do with some help on some of the content If you take a look at the document I created for our community, zeusmanual then the document I intend creating would be something similar but more generic and aimed at the community at large, not a specific community

The biggest problem I can see here is 2 fold 1) Posts Like "Escobars" are not exactly helpful, infact they are the absolute opposite. Something you would not expect from someone who is subtley trying to advertise his server hosting business and then treating those who need some user support with utter contempt. Great advert for yourself ! and the ArmA community 2) The other big issue is lack of self help. The information is out there, yes it may take some finding, but the solution that Game_On found was actually given to him. I created a manual for my gaming community, which was designed around helping the members with these sorts of issues, we also spend some time talking them through the problerms they found. It is not beyond other community admins to do likelwise (Even if the typical member doesnt seem to have the aptitude to read these documents). The best way to get help is to ask for it, not a general question but a specific question. So my advise to anyone stuck, is learn what you can by reading what you find and then put together a sensible question not a generalised one. Dont expect BIS to fix these issues for you, they have enough problems trying to fix 7 year old engine bugs A "New to ArmA2 MP" thread listing all the issues, FAQ and solutions etc might be a good idea too, and have it as a sticky
