For who like sniping, then put yourselves to the test. You can read more of it here. Download on 2nd post. http://bojler.olomouc.com/cgi-bin....15;t=91 Briefly this is a SP mission qualification test for correct application of fieldcraft, tactics, decision making, concealment, observation, target identification and mildly... accuracy. Fun is not an option,... unless u like that sort of thing. Just experience for yourself.
-
Look forget the mumbo jumbo of whos right or wrong with measurements (mine is longer btw)... go read or practice it. It is very simple, just put the damn dot in the centre... unless u r simulating a rookie with a serious case of the gits... so the rest of us fogies can use the damn thing for once.
-
I must be the idiot in pursuing this conversation... ... that video, and the NEW PARALLAX free optics mumbo jumbo from AIMPOINT, is just demonstrating everything u dont have there. It always keeps its centre. lol. Thats the whole "point" Matt...
-
Ok then,... but u aint using any common sense or seeking to make a full analysis. Since u r taking the time to inform yourself through some research. I can tell u the following: Your references are incorrect. Not wrong, incorrect! As i said before, it is an optical illusion, and as all illusions they appear to be "truths". Until u bother to check out the why of the anomaly. This is very simple Matt: the eye level to the sight.. will present a centre target. If off slightly, it will not. Anything like hand movement or breathing will make the seem to dance around in the sights. This AGAIN is an optical illusion on your retina. If u tried it on the range, go try again... and check all angles. For crying out loud, go learn some basic optics... and make the calculations yourself... for scientific proof. You just demonstrated that with your own pic. Now go find out why. Just trying to save u some time, instead of wasting mine.

If i did not know about optics, or wasnt sure, i wouldnt have posted anyway. One tries to help and u get an opinonated response like that... geez. Dont go calling others wrong just to prove your point. This is hardly an issue to exercise argumentative discussion. Besides u just demonstrated what i was saying... "just off center". Your head level, and your camera... was NOT in the correct postion. Instead of contradicting yourself u should have checked how optics work... or bothered to ask why. Btw... good innovative method for the sights, I congratulate u Mat. Looks very good otherwise. Just a pitty... if u want to be stubborn. Good luck on completing the thing, whichever way u want to finish it. You can take what i said to improve that, or leave it.

The aim dot is offline, and u gathered it as so, because u had your "hed" in the wrong position all along... and this was not pointed out. That or from whichever source u took it from. Namely to the right and slightly down. So dont assume it is off centre by default. It is an optical illusion when the eye level position is changed in relation to the sights. So it may appear to move around, when in reality your loosing the retinal reference,... like moving your head. If u want to keep the bug in, and think its realistic, be my guest. If u still have doubts, look at the pic ask yourself this: "Does it make any ballistic sense that when the barrel of my weapon is pointing at the tree, and the red dot is correctly zeroed and is pointing at the sky... i hit the sky?". Just use your common sense on that one... Only trying to help you out.

Torpedoes... Although we thought about it. No. It is possible, but not practical in my view. Ofp is not a naval combat game. And would divert from other priorities. But if we get any free time, we might include it later. As for cruise/ship-to-ship missles. Cant say more about it... but we will announce in due time. Otherwise this can be done by other future 3rd party addons and through editing. So it is not an issue for us. Please understand, that for this class of sub, it does not engage surfaced... and OFP is not optimized for any underwater combat simulation... so there is little point. But there are other more effective ways to go around this... As for the Sturgeon... at this time i can already say: It will not be released standalone, so it may take a longer than expected. But no longer that it has to. We will hold to see if BiS resolves a bug we encountered particulary for extra goodies that may be included. We can release, but it wont be as enjoyable. As for the good news: ALL named subs, prior to 91' will be included. So u can pick your specific boat to suit your mission needs.

Well we have to stick with islands for Ofp after all, isnt it? And for the camo... its realistic, thx for pic illustrating that, AvonLady. The white there will be changed to greyish for any final. About the cow camo... its must be a new urban prototype... for "indians" vs cowboys scenarios. Note: India (hindu) considers cows sacred, so it would be a form of immunity to "pissing bullets". No disrispect intended to hindus, indians, cows or boys for that matter. Well cows just chew on grass, so they wouldnt care anyway. They also crap alot, lol.Â

Falklands war mortar and royal marine models
TheOmega replied to Morph's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
You havnt got them right yet im afraid. -
To the developers.... Ive noticed recently while using nVidia board the transparency face of the flag object does not show as before while using a 3dfx voodoo 2 board. I would like to know if the developers where aware of this issue (and if not please confirm it yourselves) if this is the case, a bug, a model change update with 1.75... or any other possibility, and if possible to explain why this is so. If so, will it be fixed officially to be compatible with all official and unoficial addons? I understand this would not take too much of implementation time to do and could be beneficial for everyone if included in any official patch and guarantee full compatibility. A special thanks if this issue is looked into.

The OFP mom in all of us rises to the top. Maybe some experience shows. Im glad u enjoyed it. You can of course try for the max score, and all targets for a further challenge now that you've made it. Yes there are more. Unfortunately my time is limited and divided between stuff so on the time available. It is supposed to be a part of a campaign course, but there are still some (way to many) things im testin with other ppl to make it better. Some addons are needed for other details. Just as example i started it off in september last year, left it on the shelf and finished it only in March. About those notes u stated: Thx. I will look into it. Easily corrected if missed. Just one question. Did the chopper approach and land correctly? Had some time with it until it was satisfactory, but sometimes the AI does its own thing. But serves as example. Realistic complex missions can be simulated to effect, with no scripting and no addons.

Yes... well. It is training. You have a misconception that sniping is a shoot everybody free madman kind of thing. No such thing. Reality of the job is done within set rules: orders and ROE. Killing off the instructors and the aggressor team is not your mission, however inclined to do that you may be. If u cannot overcome adversity of this factor, then... well u must have experienced the feeling quite a few time on the exercise. Death is natures way of saying you've failed the course. There aint no snipers POW's. If u are caught, and know to be one, you would be capped on the spot. That is real life for u. So in the exercise, dont get caught. And the instructor sniper team is actually trying to miss within 5m. However sometimes they err... miss... accidents do happen once in a while. Unfortunately u have bad luck with accidents, they always happen to u. And even if u could shoot back, there would be no one left to look for you. What a walk in the park that would be. And that is just the basic. If u want to shoot ppl so eagerly, a first person shooter is best, not a simulator. Well with the correct "i feel that" scenario of course. I think you are just pissed of at the aggressor team and instructors. Good! Now use that for something useful, like doing it correctly. A true sniper will shoot rarely, but accurately (a first shot would relay your presence but a second shot would give away your position). However he will use fieldcraft all the time. As i said before. True Sniping is not about the killing... its about the hunt. PS: Has anyone qualified yet? Or learned something out of it. Im interested if anyone has that "i feel factor" also. Better catch me at ofp.info i dont come here often.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I do have one gripe on this mission. If you kill any of the resistance guys on the training range, it breaks the ROE, but they can kill you no problem. I would think that in real life, a sniper would have the ability to kill anyone who he could varify as a threat. This would also help to conceal ones self; How can they find you if they're dead?<span id='postcolor'> Hmm, good point. Although its also covered. You are trying to qualify to be a sniper. You are not one yet, and should not be hostilizing your superiors nor diminishing their ranks. Would defeat the whole purpose of the exercise. The storyline is, fictional at one point or another, but it is meant to be part of a campaign and with an unfolding storyline, so somethings were left out. But the purpose is to test the objectives i stated. The others, think of it as in a need to know basis and you would not need to know. Assume everything... trust nothing= in the breif. And you dont choose ROE either, its given. Its always easier in a field where u have all contacts as enemy. Rarely happens, so control and concealment is important. And if it was it would be pointless duck first person shooter, a way to play i find reguraly in MP. So it seems quite a few ppl online dont know how the basics of realistic play -although ive been finding a few getting on subject recently. (For that i have the "2v2 Hardcore Sniper" and for those others i have made a specific map i play once in a while, called "the Turkey shoot". So a section of 8 can hunt 2 snipers down. Of course its easy to think so, when you outgun and outnumber someone, but you can appreciate the truth of fire dicipline when outranged. Puts things in perspective again. Nobody seems to play as a team anyway, so its quite humbling for those big mouthed brats and loners out there.) Anyway, you would give your position away. The field is being observed by your instructors, the aggressor team and the counter sniper team. Any safety mishaps would terminate the exercise imediately, as in real life. As to the counter sniper team, they would: - have some unsaid grudge on the trainees attitudes; - allowed to fire blanks which by some mystery where replaced by live rounds; - you simply dont know. Minor issues i had to insert to spice it up and keep you on yer toes, not the same thing when u realise you can be shot at. Of course with the current engine, AI and what is available some things cannot be reproduced at this point or will never be... And i feel u are looking for the easy way out. But thats the point isnt it,... those big timers would be sent off too. Hmm, this is still basic sniper training... not an advanced scout-sniper course exercise.

Nothing is by chance. Even uncertainty is made to purpose. Well about the highly populated areas... no civies, but pop areas they are off limits... and like there is a story to every background the same applies. Read everything carefully, including the ROE. At certain times real towns or their vicinity is leased for exercises... if u dont have large unpopulated areas to do it in. Even proxy towns are built for certain exercises. In time of war, civies would sympathize, support or... not. Not that they would have much to say. But for this one lets say the local authorities cooperate with the exercises in one way or another. And yes u dont pick it, its given. If u want to qualify you have to deal with it. Complaining about it wont improve your situation,... so ruck it, or quit. Each target have line of sight in accending difficulty. So the hardest targets to get at will only have 1 to 2 line of sight at a specific range. And the objective is not to hit all targets, but only one... that matters. If u want to figure it out, if not already, i suggest learning some game theory principles. Greed is also looked at. Rambo cowboys and sniper wannabes are dealt with. The test is for mission completion with minimal risk... and safe extraction. Survival of the fittest. And only a moderate simplification of that too. About the grave cross, ... in the story also. Use some psychology. You just have to link that object to a instinctive thought, ... instead of politics. True stalk hunters have highly tuned primal instincts as well as a high sense of self preservation, among other things. About your primary... in there too. Observation is the key, and knowing what to look for. Knowing what to look for... is also an asset. If u cant find it, then u dont have what it takes either. And uncertainty has to be dealt with: 1st- Information: u can gather this in the briefing, intel report and updated by "eyes on" direct field observation; 2nd- Analysis. After a more complete picture of the situation u can carry out a logical elimination process to identify your target. Rushing into it... has but one result; 3rd- Attention to detail. And of course u have to read carefully everything. As its a demo and a game at that... i will let these pass through. But you will have to figure the rest yourselves, dont want to put spoilers for hasnt tried. And if u cannot qualify... they u simply dont have the mental stamina... or the basics. Can teach more about yourself than anyone can tell u... for a game. It is made to make you think, and think correctly. For the lazy minded... again read carefully, it is all there in the briefing. And if u have fun, as i said before... then u like that sort of thing. Again true sniping its not about the killing... its about the hunt.

Ridiculous... i dont know why i bother. Look at it this way: They all are the best at what they do. K, close topic now, its obsolete.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> We can cooperate or work on diferents projects. Our main and common goal should be increasing possiblities for OFP players.<span id='postcolor'> Well sorry to step in like this... was not the place, but it seems to be so now... I agree but that isnt very consistent from our last chat, is it Akagi? Cooperation isnt only 1 sided. Just does not seem serious enough, but of course you could have a different opinion since.

Nice, i understand he wont. To understand this, u must understand that this is a clockwork fine tuning activity in all aspects. Meaning every small detail is important. Easy to spot small details that make huge differences with a trained eye. I will try to explain in a global manner so u can grasp the complexity (and simplicity) of this art. I will repeat the important points in different perspectives and try to simplify what is not. Problem here is that u r starting out from the simplification itself (MOA) so i have to backtrack you through. Forget the height and width, that complicates things further. Start with the concept of length, denoting distance. Length of mildots, can only be understood after u grasp the basic of the standard of measurement (ie: Length). For this we use trigonometry and the radian measurement system. ----------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of Angle refers to a ratio of measurement. For this we need a standard of measurement: radian system. A radian can be translated simply as a "length" of some sort. ----------------------------------------------------------- Now in radians we have: Degrees that can be split up in minutes and these into seconds. They take up a radian length measurement in milimetres which i will cover ahead. For Basics: Start with a circle. The clock metaphor is useful to grasp the concept. A circle has 360ÅŸ. This is 2pi radian. 1 radian is the "length" a circle. 1pi is the diameter too. Of course here i have to watch out so u dont get confused... i mean length within a circle... which involves its rotation of course. Therefore 2 distict items, 1st: radian=the rotation itself and 2nd: radius=the length from origin (centre). So u have to make 2 radians (2pi) for a full circle, so 2 rotations of that radius or that "slice of the pie". Ok, that should do it. For a shooter, you are the centre of the clock,... So direction, distance and many other things can be calculated from here like position, time of day etc. "Time" for example, is only another measurement of length. Relative to something of course, and here we have a standard. Degrees can be converted in time measurements, and vice-versa. 1ÅŸ=60min Minutes spit into seconds. 360ÅŸ in a circle... x60 min. 1 min is 1/60th of a degree. etc. Here a radian system of measurement is used. For example: a small target (1 inch) at 100m. If u make a series of shots and it hits within, the rifle is said to shoot 1MOA. If it is a 2 inch at 100, it is said to fire 2MOA. If its 2inch at 200m it is said to fire 1MOA again. Or if its .5 inch at 100 it is said to fire 1/2 MOA, .5 at 200 a 1/4 MOA and so on. So this refers to accuracy in relation to range. There r several factors that can alter accuracy (and range, eg: wind, gravity etc). But lets concentrate on only the 1st factor, accuracy. For this we look at the 3 elements. 1-barrel (or simply the weapon unit) 2-ammunition 3-human element (we will leave this out for simplicity sake) A particular rifle can have a different bullet velocity depending on the class grade of ammunition used (even rifles within the same mk, and ammunition used. Weight of ammunition is needed, because it will be affected by gravity. For simplicity, trained marksmen select always a batch of the same grade ammunition. Made by the same manufacturer, on the same day, of the same batch (production methods can alter minute changes that make huge differences) so this variable can be kept relatively constant. We work within limits of an exact science, so bear with me. Stats that r available everywhere are average calculations within the same class of weapon of the same mk - which is important to understand in accuracy shooting, small details count). This means it also refers to velocity of bullet. The deferential of this can be dependant on minor anomalies on manufacture, weight of grain (gun powder pellets) or any other that can alter, speed and velocity. The basis of calculating MOA is trigonometry, which is the basis of ballistics. Therefore we try to measure the angle, the minutes of the angle... to a target. So u have to take into account the vertical angle of deflection (MOA) or in other words its "bullet drop", so u can actually hit where u want to hit. So a tangent of deflection (the curvature of the bullet path) is the effect in relation to the origin of the shot (where u r) and where the bullet drops. Here u must understand the effects of gravity, and the "time" that a bullet is subject to that friction. Hehe... here we have "minutes of angle" , or "length of a variable (be it time, distance or whatever) that a bullet is subject to a deflection of its vector". It curves, so tangents are used! Put a straight line, that is the vector. In reality, gravity pulls it down, so it doesnt go in a straight line, it curves, so its vector changes. It also affects its velocity, and acceleration. These variables are also in relation to "time". MOA can be held with a simple thought of mind: (range vs drop ratio) or simply its accuracy at a range. A simple equation is: (tangent angle) x (true distance to the target) = distance subtended Of course this is more complicated, in relation to the weapon and ammunition used too - which every individual item can affect a distinct bullet drop. But for simplicity terms, rifle and ammunition would have to be tested before setting the MOA to that particular weapon in conjunction with the ammo used. That is why u make a cold barrel shot for fine tuning... of that individual barrel. Its like getting to know its particular characteristic individuality. Every rifle is different, no matter how similar they may look like. This is a eternal truth for this fine craftsmanship. We work in detail, not in mass. As for Mil dots, (markings in scope) same principle and measurement system base. Mil dots refer to miliradian measurement. It serves as a optical visual aid for calculating MOA but this gets into optics, more trig, which i aint going to discuss for here for now. But for simplicity sake, you have to know what distance (length) from centre reticule r the mildots. Remember what i told u about point of view, well this is exactly what i mean, the "lengths" to look out for r in relation to the scope itself, the length of each mil dot, the length between each, etc. These r visual aids to your true vector... the target view. So u can convert to degrees, and go from there. So it might depend on a particular scope group markings. The standard of measurement of 1Mil is 3.60 degrees at 100m. Or in other words 1 miliradian is .36 at 100m. Easily to get confused if not read carefully. So take your time.
