beta patches are readily available to everyone, see the Beta Patch section of the forum for more info.

Unsure, but this is something more suited to ask in the Wishlist thread, though it has been requested many times in the past. I think everyone here would like to have full range of what options they want on and off without having to resort to third party methods.

I was referring more to what people were basing real life perspectives from. Different regions can produce different results, so some sunsets/sunrises are perceived differently by people when they bother to notice. Throwing that out there in case this thread turns into 20 different people with differing opinions on what they see.

I should mention humidity/haziness/smog/visibility plays into it a great deal.

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

M109a6 Paladin came to mind but it doesn't seem to be the same (barrel profile looks way different). That or the focus on the camera is obscuring details of the silhouette. -

Maybe not an LMG, but it's under the same idea as the M27, so IAR since we're dealing with new acronyms. -

Actually it's both. Look closely and you'll see it's still the MX but with it's buttstock changed out and a bipod added. Could be a LMG variant of the rifle much like the MG-36 to the G36 or the M27 IAR to the HK416. -
lol I just realised my typo. FIXING

Probably not. But on the subject on bushes, one ugly feature I noticed is the plants falling over like cardboard when getting shot enough, or like in the case of ArmA2 being ran over. edit: I hate you guys :P

Is that a Kel Tec RFB being used as the underwater rifle? Edit: Also about optics swapping, it depends entirely on the mount. For instance in the game itself you have the MK14's and on them is the Sage cantilever sight base. With that sight base you can maintain zero with the scope mounted on it, so long as when you go to remove the optic, you remove it with the entire base attached. People with enough money to afford different railed bases like that will leave the optics on the base and remove the base as a whole, and replace it with another base that has a different optic attached to it just so they can swap optics and be able to avoid having to zero the optic again. Though for quick attach style optics and mounts like what Panda brought up, I have no idea, but I think it works on the same principle as the sight base method mentioned before as the Sage base is quick attach itself. If the question remains unanswered later today I can ask a friend who owns and sells such things.

You were right on the weight. In the words of Doc Brown, I wasn't thinking 4th dimensionally, but what I meant with the different cartridge sizes is why make the gun intended for a much larger round like 7.62 NATO (7.62x51) when you could still remain in the intermediate class of ammo and use, in this case to keep it similar, the 7.62x39 ammunition? I know this would sacrifice range which is what your point was, but the weapon would be better suited to be compact (which it appears to be in the video and screenshots), and even in a bullpup configuration the barrel would need to be long enough to let the powder burn off, where with 7.62 NATO most people agree 18 inches is the minimum length before you are just wasting powder, which underwater it would defeat the purpose if you didn't make the most of it. Intermediate cartridges seem to fit the needs, even if it lowers the range, and between 5.56 and 7.62, 6.5 I guess is a happy medium and in this case is probably a fictional experimental variant that is unique to that weapon. That or I'm just thinking about this all wrong and I should stop typing up posts at 4am before I get a nose bleed.

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?
Steakslim replied to DemonMustang's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not so much to put on a better show as it is just various options of ammunition to choose from. Military surplus ammunition is not exactly the highest tier of ammunition you could get, and in the armed forces it is fairly regulated, where as in the civilian market you have several options with varying counts of grain for what ever accuracy/power needs that the shooter wishes to fulfill, from some really powerful loads to even subsonic loads. Many options of which are more hotter loads than the military standards, which might require adjustments to gas systems at times and sometimes stronger tolerances built into the firearm itself (fortunately the civilian market in firearms as a ton of options for many weapons). Some people also do handloads to save money, though if they don't know what they are doing the results can be dangerous. There's also different levels of quality in powders and in manufacturing in different brands of ammunition. ---------- Post added at 03:38 ---------- Previous post was at 03:35 ---------- I didn't think about it earlier but perhaps not all weapons will have the same level of customization? The MK200 may just come with a flash suppressor and that's it as far as muzzle devices go, that or it might have been the default one perhaps? -
Weight plays a factor. We could assume in the Armaverse that the designers decided the lighter bullet would be sufficient enough. Plus 7.62 NATO is a full sized round where the 6.5 is intermediate. Kinda apples and oranges.

I do that in ACE all the time with it's ability to carry a 2nd primary, though I have to consider weight when I do that.

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?
Steakslim replied to DemonMustang's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
A lot of guns being made now going into trials for infantry use aren't all that much different than guns that have been in circulation or development in the last 20 years or more, which is why you don't see them so readily getting adopted by militaries all the time, because often they are the same thing repackaged with some handy features that in the end don't create a big enough improvement to justify the cost of replacing the current armory with a whole new system of rifles. Look at the G36, ACR, HK416/417, and the SCAR series. At bottom they are just a new take on the AR-18 design with some changes here and there. Most if any of them do not really have any built in flash suppression as that would require a design of a very expensive barrel system rather than just having your normal rifled barrels to which you can add a flash suppression attachments to later on. Cost is always a factor and it's cheaper to add a muzzle device that does the job well than designing a complex barrel that could result in accuracy troubles. Special purpose weapons however can afford to have such luxuries, but of course would have limited uses, for example, though somewhat unrelated to the actual the topic, the underwater rifle seen in the demo. I don't see much use of that particular gun once your on dry land. Today all you're seeing is old designs being repackaged in attempts to chip away the rough edges if there are any to really begin with, or just an excuse to make something mostly polymer to save weight (which isn't a bad thing really if done well), or try to force a piston design into something to claim better reliability (this has been happening a lot lately), which while the idea may work, it certainly isn't anything new. This is gonna stay true for modern firearms for a LONG time until something totally groundbreaking comes along and changes that. -
Oh god, to have that flexibility to carry a second rifle in the launcher slot would be nice.

In some of the early screenshots there are some weapons with flash suppressors as well, such as this image: http://www.armaholic.com/datas/users/28epu7i_4.jpg You can see a vortex flash suppressor on the mk14. Though we have yet to see the effects of a reduced muzzle flash as BIS have been more interested in showing the muzzle flashes in their full glory (and glorious they are), but in the videos Jay and Ivan have mentioned that in the game there will be flash suppressors that will mitigate the effect and make it harder to see who's shooting at you and vice versa. -
yes they appear to be

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

Good find Antoine. So yeah Eotech with Magnifier. Still waiting to see if BI will sneak in holo sights with small thermal optics (nvg/flir) mounted in-front of them, assuming it'd jive with the RTT. -
I concur. I've walked to work during many a sunrise and shadows are not pitch black. The illusion that they are is caused by you looking in the direction of the sun itself and your eyes adjusting for the light, resulting in them becoming less able to make out details and light within the area's that have shadows. ArmA3's lighting seems to be having the right idea. Nothing too dark or too light without being affected by something else to change it, and not resulting in a rising and falling bloom effect rampaging on your eyesight.

Would the TOH flight model actually have any effect on jets?

When i find employment that can fund my costly hobbies, I'm looking into upgrading anyways, regardless of ArmA3. Benches or no benches i'm already planned for a sandy bridge build which currently puts me at under $900 to upgrade. Good times.

Kinda in the same boat as you lol

Yeah, though there have been a lot of newcomers to ArmA, purely due to DayZ. Many of which i'm sure haven't even dabbled around with ArmA itself i'm sure, so yeah, there will be a lot of questions specifically about DayZ in relation to ArmA3 and what it'd bring it. While many of us see an excellent upgrade to our favorite sandbox and what it means for the large number of mods and missions that will follow (many being new ideas that were previously unable to be made due to limitations), we also have a demographic that is mostly interested in DayZ itself and probably nothing more. Whether you think that's good or not, that's still money in BI's pocket in the end, and in turn, good for everyone. Frankly we have pre-existing cliques already of similar behaviors, some of which we all belong to, like me and ACE mod (and partially DayZ, i won't lie :D ), which after it finally pops up, I probably won't really be jumping into vanilla based missions again as I did with ArmA1 and ArmA2. The pvp clique who i imagine their interests in the improvements brought on from DayZ will benefit their corner of the ArmA community, as well as the improvements in the animations and movements seen so far. The singleplayer/editor junkies who wouldn't even dare touch multiplayer with someone else's dick and them pushing. I'm sure there's others but those are the big ones I can think of, but yeah short of showing a working 3d editor I think everyone had seen or heard a little bit of something they've been waiting for in the game so far with the presentations we've seen. And the keep this on topic, has there been any news on Total Biscuit's video of the E3 presentation or when it'll go up?

Well like what Jay mentioned in the GameTrailers video, the things learned in helping optimize DayZ to better iron out the MP issues (netcode mainly) work to help ArmA2 and ArmA3 as well. I mean it took us a long ass time to get interpolation, and while that helped a great deal, there's still desync issues that can plague servers.
