  1. There is a down side to running Windows 7 RC......

Upgrading to a European edition of Windows 7

Available only in Europe, the Windows 7 E editions ship without Microsoft’s Internet Explorer built in. The web browser-less release, made available by Microsoft in an attempt to conform with EU law, doesn’t offer an in-place upgrade from any prior edition of Windows.

Put simply, that means European consumers can’t perform an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 whatsoever. That also means that Microsoft won’t be offering Upgrade Editions of the software at European retail destinations. Instead, European customers will be treated to full Windows 7 E editions at upgrade prices. Despite the lack of a built-in browser, the Windows 7 E edition does carry one notable advantage.

Being a full edition of Windows 7, it doesn’t offer in-place upgrades, but clean installations are available without the need for an existing, activated Windows operating systems. European users, then, can simply wipe a hard drive and install any version of Windows 7 E.

Who’d have thought upgrading to a new operating system could be so complex?

  2. Please can you confirm my expected FPS with my new build. (parts to go on order end of month)

    i7 920 2.66. - Probably clock to around 3.2 ish

3gb ram 1066 (is this enough?)

    275 GX BFG 2484mhz

    Also....

Ive heard more people say that Windows 7 is better for the game than XP. I wouldnt bother buying a copy of XP if you're going to upgrade again in a few months time. I'd just use the RC for the time being.

How stable is the RC for gaming and with ARMA 2?

    Thanks guys

  3. These are my specs and I will NOT be able to run everything maxed out.

    Food for thought I believe:

    MOTHERBOARD Sk1366 DFI Lanparty JR X58-T3H6 X58 DDR3 PCI-E SATA:

    CPU INTEL Core i7-965 Extreme 3.2GHz 8Mb Sk1366 BOX:

    RAM DDR3 6Gb (3x2Gb) Corsair PC12800 1600MHz Dominator DHX+ CL8:

    HDD Western Digital 150Gb S-ATA 3.5 Velociraptor 10000rpm 16Mb:

    Graphics GPU: nVidia GTX-295

You might do at 800x600 :-p

  4. Hi there,

    1. Processor - Something like an entry level i7 would do fine. You can clock them well over 3ghz!

    2. Depends on what res you'll be running. The game will be optimized at some point soon with a new update. Best card is probably 295 gtx but a 285 will do a good job.

    3. Ram - 3gb would probably be fine tbh. 6gb would be great but not sure if i'll make much difference

Let us know what res you're running and might be able to help you a bit better.

  5. Hi guys,

    I currently have a laptop which i know isn't good enough for ARMA 2. (Macbook Pro, 2.5, 4gb ram, 8600M 512mb)

I'm debating building a pc or buying a Mac Pro. Mac Pro specs are...

4 core 2.66 Xeon or maybe 8 core 2.26 Xeon

    3gb Ram or 6gb Ram

    EVGA 285 GTX 1gb

I understand that ARMA hits the CPU pretty hard, but would i benefit from a Xeon CPU over building a i7 Quad rig?

    Thanks all
