    Package Manager?

I'd say we delay talking about high level stuff like package management until the most basic aspects in ArmA work. For example, a little bit more information _what_ addon(s) you are missing when connecting. (Like OFP has). "You can't play because the mission depends on downloaded content that has been deleted." neither is correct nor supportive.

Arma , the ultimate driving simulator

Cruising on Saharani is fun. But what I always hate is when my car just touches a wall or something the tire instantly oxidises, even the rubber, rendering the whole car unusable.
  5. Experiencing a noticable FPS drop since the update from 1.02 to 1.05. (German version) AMD X2 5200+ 8800 GTS 2 GB 2x Raptor Raid Stripe WinXP Home SP2 I do not think that in my case the view distance is the main factor, since the first thing I did after upgrading was starting the SP-mission editor to set up a harrier on the end of the runway in Ramahdi. This island isn't very big, has not that many plants and almost no buildings. It ran very fluently before the upgrade. I had to switch from 'very high' to 'medium' in order to keep it playable.

    Question:  From the patch readme......

_for AI_: The grass is taken into account when the engine computes whether a NPC can see another (unknown) unit or whether it is hidden in the grass. (In theorie.) _for multiplayer_: I think this refers to the fact that the in multiplayer the grass either is turned off for every player or turned on for everybody. So if you lay down you can be sure about how easy you will be spotted by other players. (Again, in theorie as the grass isn't rendered at larger distances)

Need an unbiased opinion from a veteran

You get this in ArmA pretty much as you did in OFP. The polished graphics even support it, (if your PC can handle it) for example do the shader effects allow scriptable camera focus (blur) in order to archive new dramaturgical effects. ArmA has gained here, though it sometimes is looks a bit too shiny, not dull. The sound engine, at least at the moment, is one of my biggest disappointments. Simply, it's broken. You just can't tell anymore the direction of tanks, sounds are cut of or aren't even propagated in multiplayer games. I've never realised the maximum number of sounds playable at the same time has a hard coded limit in OFP. But in ArmA you do! For example, when you hear a tank engine near you and you fire your rifle, the sound of the shoot -replaces- the tank sound and then the sound(file) of the tankengine starts from the beginning. This is odd On the other hand's side, the music is better in ArmA. No problems encountered here. I suggest trying the 'On the run' mission. You'll find it in the 'User Missions' forum. From an infantry perspective, ArmA is very realistic. Vehicle wise ArmA has still a long way to go IMHO. Personally, I came to the conclusion that I still _can't_ live without my OFP installed. ArmA is still unmature at the moment. As said before, if you think you pay for a game, you will most probably be dissappointed. I've bought ArmA because I've had so much fun editing Flashpoint since 2001. The cool mission editior, the mighty script language, dozen of community addons from driveable shopping-carts to WW1-planes... this is something for me. I just enjoy creating stuff. As a consequence, the lame campaign or missing vehicle xyz are no issues to me. Shortcomings in the engine are... I think these two points of view are the reason why ppl. clash that often in this forum.

So many idiots, so little time

As for the original-topic, I've build a small repertoire of TeamSpeak-Servers from friendly clans who run their own server. If I want to play a round, I do not browse for servers in game, I do travel my TS list. There I ask if they are up for a game, most of the time they are. They invite me to join (on their server) and I have fun. I also advise using Teamspeak or something like that before joining a game because you can tell by the pitch of the voices what the game will be like

    Tracers....

The FFUR Mod for OFP has great tracers. (Among many other great things ARMA is lacking). So I guess it's changeable in Arma too.
